Expedition Stronghold The Temple of Scar Header Image

After finding about the source of acid which the Scars used, the self-proclaimed underrated Corvus Agent found out that there was an Escari that controlled a Scar Swarm which made acidic weapons. Corvus wounded the creature, but couldn’t go through with its hiding place due to the size of the swarm. This is where the Freelancer came to their aid and decided to infiltrate the special hideout.

Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • Visit Scar Nest page to get familiarized with the sections and areas within this location.
  • Visit The Construct page to get familiarized with the Final Boss Arena
  • The first-time dialogs are unique in this expedition.
  • Since this is a repeatable expedition, it will continue to show the logs on the screen (top-right corner]] as though it wasn’t completed. This can be safely ignored and a different mission can be chosen from the Journal.
  • This expedition is extremely tough even in the easy difficulty setting.
  • If Seasonal the Temple of Scar is played before playing the Stronghold version for the first time, then unique dialogs will play in the Seasonal version and it will keep playing the first-time version, until the regular stronghold version is played for the first time. After that, the dialog is taken from a pool.
  • Scar infantry can be easily tackled with any Combat Equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
  • For Scar Scouts and Scar Hunters it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage, then do further damage using any type.
  • Scar Destroyers' seeker mines are filled with acid which can reduce resistance of the javelin. They can deploy them infinite times. One mine may be tolerable, but several mines can automatically target a javelin and bring it down. Whenever a Destroyer is seen, defeat it quickly with any equipment.
  • Scar Hunters can do a lot of damage They must be a priority when tackling Scar enemies. Once their shields are stripped, freeze them using ice or render them flightless with fire and focus on the Weak Points.
  • Scar Enforcers have armored health. They don’t do much damage. Using armor buster, acid, or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them. Same goes for turrets.
  • There are some of Waterfalls that can quickly help a javelin cooldown, but don’t count on them as they aren’t strategically located to be helpful.
  • There are Scar Exploding Mines scattered everywhere on the ground, triggering which could do serious damage and hinder visibility for a second.
  • See Scelos on how to combat it. Be extra careful of the three rotating pylons of the Construct as they can not only do severe damage, they can also impel the javelin far off or open places prone to immediate attack, if touched.
  • Unless otherwise specified, all directions are taken with reference to moving of the javelin from the entrance to exit. This means, when a Right-side or right wall is mentioned, the javelin will be facing the exit and the direction will be on the Javelin’s right-hand side. Similarly for the left.

Quest Chain

This expedition is a part of the Tales from the Strongholds. When the storyline is completed, an appropriate challenge is also completed, which will reward the Freelancer. The following are the related quests in order for this storyline:

  1. Tyrant Mine
  2. The Heart of Rage
  3. The Temple of Scar
  4. The Sunken Cell

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • This is the second stronghold to be unlocked. However, this can be played at any order after finishing the Critical Path.
  • The location to where the entrance lies for the Scar Nest is thought to be inside Scar Burrow.
  • This is the first time an Escari is explicitly said to have ascended to a Luminary.
  • Two Arcanists are heard discussing about Scelos and Luminaries based on Sev’s report. Oddly this conversation actually takes place even before the stronghold is unlocked, showing that it was not supposed to be unlocked after Return to the Heart of Rage, but was a last-minute change.
  • There are three locations in this Stronghold where a one-time conversation plays between Faye, Sev, and the Freelancer which doesn’t play other than during the first time playthrough:
    • Javelin Slicing Saw Section in Slicing Chamber.
    • Fire Pit Section in Scar Pantry’s lower level.
    • Questionably Hanging Meat Section in Scar Pantry’s upper level.
    • In the above three areas it is revealed what Scars do with captured prisoners.
  • There is a ground level map of this area found exclusively in the Anthem Prima Guide
  • The map reveals several changes that were not included in the final version of the Stronghold, especially the locations of various turrets.
  • Just like, Fort Tarsis, this Stronghold features a Day/Night lighting system.
    • If the Freeplay map has sun already risen, the lighting will be like day light.
    • If the Freeplay map has the sun already set, then the lighting will be that of night time.
  • The Scar Artwork depicting a Shaper Key dispensing Shaper Energy is seen five times throughout the Scar Nest.
    • At the starting on a wall above the small fire.
    • On the left wall inside the second area (the place with the massive circular structure in the center)
    • On the right wall inside the second area (the place with the massive circular structure in the center)
    • On the left wall of the fifteenth area (the open location just before entering the Final Boss Arena)
    • On the cave wall opposite to the entrance of the Final Boss Arena (again in the fifteenth area)

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for The Temple of Scar Stronghold:

Briefing

Depending upon the choices taken, the Freelancer gets a variety of ways of initial briefing from Sev in the Bar at Fort Tarsis. The Freelancer will also be given a short briefing when the expedition starts. This briefing’s details also depend on whether or not the Freelancer has met Sev in the Fort beforehand. Also, the team can enter the caves either during day or night times, bringing about a change in the lighting of the underground cave systems.

The following choices are available if briefing with Sev is initiated.

Infiltrate the Scar Nest and Defeat the Escari Scelos

The Freelancer goes to the Bar to meet Sev. Depending upon whether other strongholds (except The Heart of Rage Stronghold) is played without meeting Sev, a new initial conversation will take place.

Launch Expedition

The following choices are available if the Freelancer decides to get briefing from Sev. Otherwise, the expedition can be directly launched. If speaking with Sev for the very first time, then this conversation tree shows up

  • The Freelancer: "Are you… Sev?"
  • Sev: "In the flesh. You must be the Freelancer Tassyn hired. Huh. You actually look… capable."
First Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[You sound surprised.]

  • The Freelancer: "Were you expecting otherwise?"
  • Sev: "No. Well, sort of. I’m used to getting scraps, not resources."
  • The Freelancer: "I thought Corvus would have plenty to go around."
  • Sev: "Oh, they do. But I’m in the proverbial doghouse. Long story short, I pissed off the wrong people, and ended up in this shit hole."

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[One of us has to.]

  • The Freelancer: "Wish I could say the same for you."
  • Sev: "Ouch. I’m one of Corvus’ most underrated agents."
  • The Freelancer: "Who’s drinking on the job."
  • Sev: "I’m not a damn Sentinel. Besides, there’s nothing else to do in this shit hole."
Second Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[Fort Tarsis is a hidden gem.]

  • The Freelancer: "At first glance, Fort Tarsis may not seem like much, but–"
  • Sev: "It’s a shit hole. The bar doesn’t even have a name."
  • The Freelancer: "It used to, but–"
  • Sev: "I know the story. All the stories. Let’s just talk about the job."

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[That’s enough small talk.]

  • The Freelancer: "Uh-huh. You have a job for me."
  • Sev: "Yes. Sorry, I get complain-y when I’m bored."

[Choiceless Conversation Continues]

If the Freelancer has encountered an Escari before

  • The Freelancer: "I’ve dealt with Escari before."
  • Sev: "Then you know they’re not your average Scar. A swarm united under an Escari’s command can be devastating. I sent a team of agents to ambush Scelos… it didn’t go as planned. The creature was able to retreat to its nest before we could finish the job."

If the Freelancer has not dealt with an Escari before

  • The Freelancer: "An Escari?"
  • Sev: "A powerful Scar with superior intelligence. They can command entire swarms to do their bidding."
  • The Freelancer: "Like making acidic weapons."
  • Sev: "Exactly. The swarm we encountered is led by an Escari that calls itself Scelos."
  • The Freelancer: "Where’s the swarm located?"
  • Sev: "In a cave network underground. I won’t lie to you, Freelancer. This is going to be tough."
  • The Freelancer: "Send the coordinated to Faye. We’ll contact you when I reach the nest."

If already spoken with Sev previously, or completed other Sev-related strongholds, then this conversation tree shows up

  • The Freelancer: "Sev, I hear you’ve got another job for me."

If the Freelancer has already dealt with an Escari before

  • Sev: "Yeah. And it’s a big one. I was right. The swarm behind the acidic weapons–it’s led by an Escari. Calls itself Scelos."

If the Freelancer has not encountered an Escari before

  • The Freelancer: "An Escari?"
  • Sev: "A powerful Scar with superior intelligence. They can command entire swarms to do their bidding."
  • The Freelancer: "Like making acidic weapons."
  • Sev: "Exactly. The swarm we encountered is led by an Escari that calls itself Scelos."
First Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[Better to know your enemy.]

  • The Freelancer: "Well, at least we know what we’re up against."
  • Sev: "All too well, unfortunately."

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[Stupid name.]

  • The Freelancer: "it chose that name?"
  • Sev: "Hey! To a Scar it might sound pretty."
  • The Freelancer: "Doubtful."

[Choiceless Conversation Continues]

  • Sev: "I sent a team of agents to ambush the creature. We got the jump on it, but Scelos got away. Limped back into the loving arms of its swarm."
Second Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[What about your team?]

  • The Freelancer: "Did your agents make it?"
  • Sev: "There were a few casualties. But most survived. Thanks to their sacrifice, we know the location of the swarm’s nest."
  • The Freelancer: "Where is it?"

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[You should’ve sent me.]

  • The Freelancer: "If you’r sent me, Scelos wouldn’t have escaped."
  • Sev: "At the time, I thought a surgical approach was preferable… now, I need a hammer."
  • The Freelancer: "Where’s the swarm located?"

[Choiceless Conversation Continues]

  • Sev: "In a cave network underground. I won’t lie to you, Freelancer. This is going to be tough."
  • The Freelancer: "Send the coordinated to Faye. We’ll contact you when I reach the nest."

The Freelancer ventures outside the wall and reaches the underground cave network where the Scar nest was located.

In Expedition

When the team arrived inside the underground cave system, Faye and Sev speak with the lancer. Immediately, a strange Scar artwork depicting a volatile Shaper Key can be seen on the cave wall in the front above a smoky fire.

Infiltrate the Scar Nest and Locate Scelos

This location is designated as Arrival Area. Depending upon whether the Freelancer has met with Sev or spoken with him, the initial conversation can change.

Enter the Scar Settlement

If the Freelancer Does Not Meet Sev for a Briefing

  • Faye: "Patching in our Corvus Contact."
  • Sev: "Freelancer. Name’s Sev. I was hoping we could meet in person. But I see you’re eager to get started. Corvus has been tracking an Escari called Scelos. We got a jump on it, but Scelos retreated to these caves. My team’s built for ambushes, not sieges."
  • The Freelancer: "At least you know your shortcomings."
  • Sev: "Heh. Scelos is wounded, but there’s an entire swarm backing it up. You’ve got your work cut out for you."

If the Freelancer Meets Sev for a Briefing

  • Faye: "Corvus tracked Scelos to these caves. Be careful Freelancer, Escari aren’t like normal Scars. They’re intelligent and unpredictable."
  • The Freelancer: "Like me."
  • Faye: "That’s partly true. Patching in Sev."
  • Sev: "Freelancer. You made good time."
  • The Freelancer: "I’m a professional."
  • Sev: "You’ll need that confidence for the fight ahead. Scelos may be wounded, but there’s an entire swarm backing it up."

The Freelancer can check out the area or continue to Nest Entrance. The Freelancer flies to the next area.

Secure the Nest’s Entrance

The Nest Entrance is a wide-open area with heavy defenses, alarm networks and a massive Scar structure attached to a large bridge in the center. The Freelancer fights the enemy Scars and their turrets.

Turrets Destroyed

The Freelancer must destroy three Turrets while defeating Scar enemies. While the Turrets fire, numerous Scar enemies Gate-in.

  • Sev: "The swarm will protect Scelos at any cost."
  • The Freelancer: "Pretty loyal for a bunch of bugs."
  • Sev: "They’re actually–"
  • Faye: "Skip the Biology lesson and focus on the turrets."

The Freelancer destroys all three Turrets.

Defeat the Scar

Once the turrets are destroyed, more scars gate-in. The Freelancer fights them all and defeats them. Once the final Scar is defeated, alarms start ringing.

  • The Freelancer: "Hope you weren’t expecting a covert mission."
  • Sev: "I know who I hired."
  • The Freelancer: "Is that a no?"
  • Faye: "Destroy the alarms or you’ll be overwhelmed."

Alarms Destroyed

The Freelancer must find 6 alarms and destroy them before the entire swarm comes to thwart any effort in succeeding. If the Freelancer takes too long to destroy the alarms, Sev becomes impatient.

  • Sev: "Could you destroy the alarms? Please?"
  • The Freelancer: "Worling on it!"

The Freelancer destroys the first alarm.

  • The Freelancer: "One down."
  • Sev: "I don’t need a status update everytime."
  • The Freelancer: "That was for Faye."
  • Faye: "Five more, Freelancer."

The Freelancer continues.

Defeat the Scar

While destroying the alarms, the Freelancer also defeats any new Scar presence that shows up. The Freelancer destroys all six alarms, eventually.

  • The Freelancer: "And done."
  • Sev: "Thank god. I was getting a migrane."
  • Faye: "We couldn’t have that."

Defeat Gatekeeper

A Gatekeeper Scar gates-in to prevent the team’s progress.

  • Faye: "He looks… friendly"
  • The Freelancer: "Does he though?"
  • Sev: "Nothing but meat and potatoes behind that shield. Stagger him and dig in."
  • Faye: "Interesting metaphor."
  • Sev: "What? I’m hungry."
  • The Freelancer: "Can we not talk about food right now?"

The Freelancer fights the Gatekeeper and defeats the Scar, unlocking the door that leads to Slicing Chamber.

  • Sev: "See. That wasn’t so hard."
  • The Freelancer: "Says the backseat driver."
  • Faye: "Hold on. I’m detecting extremely high energy readings further in."

Infiltrate Scar Nest and Locate Scelos

  • Sev: "Dammit. This speeds up our timetable."
  • The Freelancer: "Why? What’s happening?"

There is a Loot Chest Treasure Chest here, beside the right-side wall. Opening it will reward the Freelancer with loot and ember.

The Freelancer proceeds to the next location.

Explore Scar Nest

  • Sev: "There are records of a Shaper Construct in this area. Just a hunch, but I think Scelos might use it to cause a Cataclysm."
  • Faye: "(Sighs.) Of course. Corvus doesn’t do simple missions."
  • Sev: "It’s not like I told Scelos the Construct was here."

There is a Treasure Chest in this area which the Freelancer may open to receive some rewards. As the Freelancer goes further into the Scar Nest, many Scar structures can be seen, prominently Scar Watchtowers. However, there is a strange section in this area where several javelins are piled up next to massive saws.

  • Faye: "Those javelins… they butchered them."
  • The Freelancer: "Wonder what happened to the lancers."
  • Sev: "They’re dead."
  • Faye: "And you know that how?"
  • Sev: "Corvus, remember?"
  • The Freelancer: "Let’s just keep moving."

From the tone of the conversation, it is clear that these Javelin Slicing Saws were used to butcher not only the javelins, but also the lancers, which would soon become evident. While Sev’s tone seems nonchalant, Faye’s sounded hopeful in the beginning, as if she wanted to save the poor pilots. The Freelancer exist this location and moves on to Generator Room.

  • Sev: "They’ve jammed the door. Brute force isn’t going to cut in."
  • Faye: "Not every problem has to be solved with a hammer."

Restore Power to the Generator

Inside the Generator Room, there are several, slightly tougher scars The only way out is to destroy the right-side wall to reach the exit, or avoid being caved in by opening the door to the next area. Faye knows her stuff.

  • Faye: "If we restart the power, it should fix itself."
  • Sev: "Look for fuel. Scars love it almost as much as relics."

Fuel Cells Gathered

The Freelancer must combat against Scars while looking for Fuel canisters. There are three in total. Once a cell is found, the Freelancer picks it up. New scars gate-in.

  • The Freelancer: "Look at all these barrels just lying around."
  • Faye: "They could at least organize them."
  • Sev: "Yeah, Scars don’t really do that. Try filling up the pump, Freelancer."

The Freelancer inserts the fuel canister into a pump. Subsequently, two more canisters receive the same treatment, amid the angry Scar enemies. Once all 3 are filled, the generator starts and opens the door.

  • Faye: "And… we’re in."
  • Sev: "Hey, congratulations. You opened a door."
  • The Freelancer: "Hey! Don’t knock the little wins. They’re important. For morale."

The Freelancer exits through the opened door leading to the next area.

Infiltrate the Scar Nest and Locate Scelos

The Freelancer flies through a narrow tunnel, lit with flaming torches, which is the Major Tunnel. There is nothing much of importance here. So, the next can be entered without any problem.

Explore Scar Nest

The Scars have built more structures in the Makeshift Atrium. They look much sturdier than the external structures, with arches, roofs, ledges and platforms. There is even a small waterfall on by the Right-side wall.

  • Faye: "They’ve built an entire fortress down here."
  • Sev: "Scars may not be pretty, but they are resourceful."

The Freelancer flies to the Scar Pantry. There are a few more Scars. However, two surprises can be seen in this place.

  • The Freelancer: "Wow. (Coughs.) need to recirculate the air in my javelin."
  • Faye: "(Gagging noise.) Please do."

So, from where is this horrible stench coming? There are a few Scars here which the Freelancer fights and then goes further into Area 07 to see a Fire Pit burning something.

  • The Freelancer: "Found the source of the smell."
  • Faye: "Rotten meat. Lovely."
  • Sev: "A Scar delicacy."

The Freelancer then goes to a small section on the upper side of the right wall, on the opposite side of the area’s exit, and this was perhaps what connected to the sliced-up javelins from earlier.

  • Faye: "Yeah. Let’s all agree that’s wolven meat."
  • Sev: "Even though it’s probably not."
  • The Freelancer: "Sev, please just go with it."

The Freelancer exits this horrible place to move further into Minor Tunnel, another connecting tunnel. This place was empty with nothing in it. Strange. The Freelancer flies out of the tunnel around to explore the further Gated Chamber.

  • The Freelancer: "Where is everybody?"
  • Faye: "Relieving themselves? Considering what’s on the menu."
  • Sev: "From what we can tell, Scars prefer meat that’s gone off."
  • The Freelancer: "Why do you know this these things?"

When suddenly, gates tear open.

  • The Freelancer: "We’re locked in."

Destroy the Gate

  • Sev: "I found the scars"
  • The Freelancer: "Thanks, Sev. Very helpful."
  • Faye: "I’ve got an idea. But it’s definitely not covert."
  • Sev: "Told you–not a priority."
  • Faye: "And, Freelancer. It might cave you in."
  • The Freelancer: "Calculated risk."
  • Faye: "The structural integrity of that wall is weak. See those explosives? Blow the damn thing."
  • The Freelancer: "Yes, ma’am!"

Explosives Planted

The Freelancer must find five explosives scattered all across the area. More Scars gate-in at this time.

Defeat the Scar

As Scars pour in, the Freelancer fights and defeats them all! Then the five explosives begin to prime. Fortunately, there is no need for anyone to stand in range of a Cypher projected circle. But there is an issue–more Scars show up. If the Freelancer takes a long time to gather the explosives, Faye gives a reminder.

  • Faye: "Freelancer. You need to grab the explosives."

When the final explosive is planted,

  • The Freelancer: "Explosives in place."

Survive the Ambush

  • Sev: "Wow. Gave yourself plenty of time, huh?"
  • The Freelancer: "It’s a default setting."
  • Faye: "Focus, please."

Defeat Scar

More scar enemies amb=ush the Freelancer by gating in. The Freelancer fights them and defeats them all. As additional, tougher scars enter, the Freelancer finds them and puts an end to their antics. At this point, the explosives would be primed.

  • Faye: "Explosives primed. Get back, Freelancer."

The Freelancer moves away and, in an instant, the gate is blown to smithereens by the five explosives.

Infiltrate the Scar Nest and Locate Scelos

The path leads to a small connecting tunnel made out of a strider cargo box.

  • The Freelancer: "Way’s clear."
  • Faye: "And you’ve still got all your fingers and toes."
  • Sev: "Always a plus."

There is a Loot Chest Treasure Chest here, by the right side wall of the cargo box. Opening it will reward the Freelancer with loot and ember.

Follow Sewer Path

The Freelancer moves further into the Upper Sewer.

  • Faye: "(Gagging noises.) Oh. Looks like we tapped into a primitive sewer system."
  • The Freelancer: "More than looks like it."
  • Faye: "Good news is: we’re closing in on the Construct. And probably more scars. But that’s to be expected."
  • The Freelancer: "Sev. I want it noted that I’m literally walking through shit for you."
  • Sev: "Noted."

The Freelancer then goes into the Lower Sewer. As the Freelancer follows the sewer path, several Scar turrets and enemies await in welcome, and contacting the sewage on the floor, or even its mist does acid damage to the javelin. Naturally, the Freelancer destroys all of them before head into a not so quiet place. The Freelancer exits into the Pillar Atrium, an incredibly tall atrium with a massive pillar in its center with connecting bridges.

Turrets Destroyed

  • Sev: "Out of the sewer and into the frying pan."
  • The Freelancer: "That’s not the expression!"

The Freelancer must destroy four turrets strategically located around this tall atrium.

  • Faye: "Keep moving. Exit’s above you."

The Freelancer takes care of all the turrets and any Scar enemies that reveal themselves.

Explore Scar Nest

The Freelancer flies out through the exit at the top of the atrium. This lead into Storage Area. There are many scar objects held in storage. A few tough scars gatee in, but they are no match for the Freelancer. The Freelancer continues towards the exit. Finally, there is some fresh air as the freelancer reaches the Connecting Atrium

  • The Freelancer: "(Deep breath.) fresh air. Are we close?"
  • Faye: "Yes. Energy readings are climbing."
  • The Freelancer: "Sev. Why would Scelos start a cataclysm?"
  • Sev: "I don’t know. But it’s not the first Escari to try. I’ve never seen a swarm this size. And considering their defenses… this place must mean something."

The Freelancer finally flies out into Final Atrium where the Scars are defending something very important.

  • The Freelancer: "This is definitely the place!"

Defeat Scars

The Freelancer witnesses Scars surrounding a Shaper ruin, on which the scars have built their structures.

  • Sev: "Last line of defense before Scelos. They won’t let you through without a fight."

The Freelancer fights all the scars and defeats them before reaching the entrance of the Construct.

Explore Scar Nest

Before exiting the atrium, the Freelancer can see a couple of Scar art in the chamber. At the end of the Scar Nest, is a Shaper Ruin. This ruin open into a chamber where a large Shaper Relic is located. The Freelancer enters the Construct.

Silence the Construct

What the Freelancer sees is unbelievable!

  • The Freelancer: "What the hell is that? Sev. You forgot to mention the tank."
  • Sev: "The tank’s new."
  • Faye: "It’s also partly organic."
  • The Freelancer: "What?"
  • Faye: "Scelos isn’t just the pilot. It and the tank are fused together."
  • Sev: "It must’ve entombed itself to heal its wounds."
  • The Freelancer: "Cool theory. Can I still kill it?"
  • Sev: "Yes. It’ll just be a more complicated endeavor."

Defeat Scelos

At this juncture, Scelos, inside the tank stands up, demonstrating that it has ascended its Escari level into the highest–a Luminary. The Freelancer starts the combat. After dealing a little damage, Scelos activates the pylons of the contruct. These create an impenetrable field around the Luminary, while the construct itself starts creating Scars.

  • Faye: "Oh no."
  • The Freelancer: "What? What’s happening now?"
  • Faye: "The construct’s energy is still rising."
  • Sev: "Freelancer, if you don’t shut that thing down, I’m gonna have an uncomfortable conversation with my boss. And you… well… you’ll be dead. Or something weirder."
  • The Freelancer: "Great pep talk, Sev."
  • Faye.: "Shoot the pylons. That’ll disrupt its shields."
  • Sev: "Should we really be shooting Shaper stuff?"
  • Faye: "What’s the worst that could happen? Cataclysm?"
  • Sev: "Fair point."

The Freelancer fights the Scars while shooting the pylons. When the three pylons are shut down,

  • Sev: "That’s it! Shield’s down. Give ‘em hell!"

The Freelancer continues the fight. As and when the pylons go up and more scars enter, they are all shot down! The moment Scelos is defeated, Faye sighs with relief.

  • Faye: "(Exhales.) It’s over. The construct is silent and Scelos is no more."
  • Sev: "Spiky bastard got what it deserved."
  • The Freelancer: "We should inform the Arcanists about the tank. And that the Construct was spawning Scars."
  • Sev: "I’ll put it in my report. But first, how about a round of celebratory drinks?"
  • Faye: "As long as Corvus is paying."

The Freelancer heads back to the Fort.

Post Expedition

The Freelancer returns to Fort Tarsis victorious.

Debrief

Sev will wait for the triumphant hero at the Bar. During debrief, the Freelancer has conversational choices. Depending on the dialog selected, different type of Cortex Entries can be unlocked and additional information can be learned.

Talking to Sev

If the Freelancer Does Not Meet Sev for a Briefing

  • The Freelancer: "Sev?"
  • Sev: "You… actually showed up"
  • The Freelancer: "You invited me for a celebratory round."

If the Freelancer Meets Sev for a Briefing

  • The Freelancer: "Where’s my celebratory drink?"

Choiceless Conversation Continues

  • Sev: "Yeah, so Corvus has a daily limit on what I can spend on food and beverage..."
  • The Freelancer: "You drank all the drinks."
  • Sev: "I drank all the drinks."
First Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[It’s all right.]

  • The Freelancer: "I wasn’t thirsty anyway."
  • Sev: "You are remarkably understanding."
  • The Freelancer: "Uh-huh."

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[I figured.]

  • The Freelancer: "This is me not surprised."
  • Sev: "Your judgment is sound. It’s what makes you a good Freelancer."
  • The Freelancer: "Skip the flattery, Sev. You’re terrible at it."
  • Sev: "So I’ve been told."

[Choiceless Conversation Continues]

  • The Freelancer: "What did the Arcanists make of your report?"
  • Sev: "Apparently, Scelos isn’t the first Luminary on record."
  • The Freelancer: "Luminary?"
  • Sev: "It’s a rank of Escari. The Arcanists believe they are tied to Swarm population size. But it’s hard to say."
Second Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[We have so much to learn.]

  • The Freelancer: "Scars are everywhere. Yet we know so little about them."
  • Sev: "They’re not exactly forthcoming. We can only guess what they’re after."
  • The Freelancer: "Sounds like you have a few ideas."
  • Sev: "One thought keeps bugging me…"

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[There are more Luminaries?]

  • The Freelancer: "You’re telling me there are other Escari in tanks out there?"
  • Sev: "I know, right? Arcanists never give good news. It did make me wonder though…"

[Choiceless Conversation Continues]

  • Sev: "Scelos was trying to use that Construct to create an army of Scars."
  • The Freelancer: "That’s what it looked like."
  • Sev: "What if that’s why Scars are always drawn to Shaper stuff? To create more of themselves?"
Third Choice in Conversation

[If the Left-side option is selected]
[That’s possible.]

  • The Freelancer: "That wouldn’t be the first creatures made from a Cataclysm."
  • Sev: "I… wow. I didn’t expect you to be so receptive. It sounded kind of crazy in my head."
  • The Freelancer: "I deal with crazy every day."
  • Sev: "Before meeting you, I thought I did too. You definitely keep things interesting, Frelancer. And for that, I thank you."

[If the Right-side option is selected]
[Relics are too unpredictable.]

  • The Freelancer: "It’s just as likely the Construct could’ve created ursix or chimera. Scelos got lucky. That’s all."
  • Sev: "You’d know better than me. Maybe applying logic to Scars is a waste of time. At least the swarm is neutralized. I’ll keep tabs on them. But for now, we can sit back and enjoy our handiwork."

Notes and Remarks

  • The briefing or debriefing not being necessary is exclusively a Stronghold related choice.
  • Several cortex entries are unlocked if spoken with Sev during briefing or debrief, which otherwise cannot be unlocked.
  • Starting conversation with Sev plays differently depending upon whether there was a briefing or not, including during the in-mission part.
  • There are two stronghold treasure chests which can reward up to 15 items (a combination of loot and ember each).
  • The final boss can also reward up to 15 items in the afore mentioned combination.
  • The dialogs in this expedition are the same as mentioned in this script only for the first time this expedition is played. Starting from the second time, all dialogs will be different, and lines will be taken from a pool that get rotated in-game. However, certain conversations may be skipped if actions are performed quickly, or additional conversations will show up if there is a delay
