The Sanctuary of Dunar is a district of Emerald Abyss Subregion found within the region of Northern Bastion, located in the nation of Bastion, on the planet Coda, as of the year 468 LV.

History

It is though that the Sanctuary of Dunar, a palace in Dunar, had existed before the Legion Victorious era. It is thought that the Legionnaires used this location to plot against the Urgoth and was left for ruins until 150 LV, when the arcanists built the Library of Dunar and made this into the primary Arcanist Academy of Bastion. The twin Paladins, Tal and Ora are said to have sniped down Korm the Immortal here around the time of the Final Battle against the Urgoth.

Folk Tales tell of a Royal Family princess who fell in love with a merchant after the defeat of Urgoth. But the heri of Arden Vassa was to never leave Antium. So, the princess fulfilled her duties. Meanwhile, the merchant had built the city of Dunar for her. When both were old, and there wer no more obligations for the princess, the two entered the Sanctuary holding each other’s hands, and breathed their last breath once inside.

Arcanists such as Raban Maur and Mederines had visited the Sanctuary. However, in 279 LV, a curious young arcanist brought in a Shaper relic and set it volatile, ensuing Cataclysms resulted in hundreds of deaths and the loss of the library and its contents.

In 468 LV, the Freelancer located the Tomb of Legionnaire Cariff and helped Erryl to uncover the Elysian Manuscript at the Sanctuary Ruins. Later the same year, when Vara Brom made Echoes of Reality to remake the existing reality, several Shaper Structures became active. One such was seen obliterating the already ruined Sanctuary’s library by a Survey Beacon.

Later, the same year, around the time of Season of Skulls Festival, those lost in darkness returned and wanted the Freelancer to light a shrine for the fallen Tal and Ora near the Sanctuary ruins. Subsequently, when winter came and icetide celebrations began, a Shaper Ice Globe showed up here and Coolant Harvest Events were conducted. The Freelancers also set up a Time Trial called Razor's Edge Run here.

The Sanctuary of Dunar is a named after the palace of Dunar, which was called a sanctuary of bliss according to a Folk Tale. Though the Sanctuary was built long ago, it came to societal prominence in the 150s, when Arcanists from Anshar relocated there to accumulate the written history of humanity. It soon became the primary Arcanist academy in Bastion, and its library the primary source of history and knowledge. It attracted many famed Arcanists, notably Mederines, who would engage in long discussions about the nature of existence in the courtyard, as documented in the philosophical masterwork, “Dialogues.” In 297, a young Arcanist brought a relic into the library, and the ensuing Cataclysms resulted in hundreds of deaths and the loss of the library and its contents.
