The Iron Serpent is a district of Monument Watch Subregion found within the region of Northern Bastion, located in the nation of Bastion, on the planet Coda, as of the year 468 LV.

History

The Iron Serpent is the only district in Monument Watch Subregion. Records show the Shaper Spines, simply regarded as serpentine arms were once active and their unexpected volatility was what made the original flatland into the massive canyon that is this district.

Since its discovery until today, Arcanists and Sentinels are kept here for patrolling the largest Shaper Relic found in Northern Bastionthe Monument. This relic, while not volatile, is still active. There are warning systems placed here to monitor changes and alert Fort Tarsis for any cataclysmic activity.

In 468 LV, the Freelancer visited the Iron Serpent many times to provide assistance in any way possible. First, Matthias was helped with collecting some Arcanist Runes here while fighting an Ursix, which would eventually help find the Elysian Manuscript.

Next, when Yarrow was trying to locate Diggs, the Freelancer located an abandoned Arcanist camp led by Elsin, only to find out the research team had run away into a nearby Shaper ruin to protect themselves against Outlaws—these outlaws were defeated and the Freelancer rescued the arcanists., along with defeating an outlaw leader called Redlegs Rix.

Finally, after silencing the Heart of Rage, from what Brin had uncovered of the Doomsday Relic, it was found here and permanently silenced along with the defeat of the Doomsday Titan. Later when the Dominion and Scar came to retrieve its fragments, the Freelancer along with Brin, Barr, and Andrin thwarted this effort by finally defeating the Bane of Freemark and the Pride of Frostkeln.

During the Icetide of 468 LV, a mysterious Shaper Ice Globe showed up here, near the Drill, allowing for Coolant Harvesting Event inside the localized ice storm.

Geography and Layout

Location District The Iron Serpent District Geography Image

The Iron Serpent is a vast valley with lots of Shaper Structures found here: Shaper relics, Shaper ruins, Shaper Ice Globes, Shaper Tunnels, and Shaper Keys! The openness of this location is ideal for animals to come and make themselves home. The Shaper tunnel leads to Abyssal Loch. The pillar shaped relics create an optical phenomenon resembling sonoluminescence.

Tall hills are found surrounding the valley. There is an anzu ruin underground but cannot be reached from this subregion, unfortunately. The entrance to the Bane Engine is found here, even though it is not a part of this district or subregion. Plants are also seen growing wherever there are no Shaper instruments. More often than ever, the Dominion are seen trying to occupy this location. Fortunately, ally lancers do not allow this to happen. There are several shallow water pools. There is a deepwater lake with fallen striders and unique plants here. Yes, there are several unique plants found here that aren’t found anywhere else!

The Iron Serpent (the colloquial name for the canyon) is home to the largest Shaper ruins in the entire region. Arcanist records show that the long serpentine arms were once the source of a great disruption in the area, upsetting gravity itself, and turning what was a flatland into canyons and cliffs. The Monument in the center of the canyon is currently active, though not cataclysmic. Arcanists and lancers alike have kept a constant surveillance on the area, ready to alert the nearby settlement of Fort Tarsis, should danger become apparent.

Trivia

  • This district or its surroundings will look different during various seasonal times, which includes the presence or absence of various cataclysmic storms.
  • The Iron Serpent is the largest district in Northern Bastion. In fact Monument Watch Subregion and the Iron Serpent are geo-politically synonymous.
  • A district called Monument Valley is listed in the game files. However, it is actually a special location that is not present in Monument Watch and neither is it an alteternative name of the Iron Serpent.
