ANCIENT FOOTSTEPS

See Cortex Entry: ANCIENT FOOTSTEPS for More Details

Drawn into the mystery, Matti asked the Freelancer to follow Raban Maur's clues to learn more about his secret discovery. The trail led to another ancient structure where Maur kept a data archive hidden inside a vault. To Matti and the Freelancer's surprise, the archive was already stolen from the vault. As the team considered their next step, the strider Matti was inside was attacked.
Alarmed, the Freelancer raced to the strider and fought off Matti's attackers. Though Matti emerged unscathed, losing Maur's archive weighed heavily on the Arcanist's mind.

CONVERGENCE

See Cortex Entry: CONVERGENCE for More Details

The reality decay of the three Matthiases was taking hold. As one catastrophe often follows another, a disagreement prompted Sumner to take the Manifold and leave to pursue his own theories. The Freelancer raced after Sumner, defending him from his own folly and the strange creatures attracted by the Manifold's energies. Lesson learned, Sumner returned to Fort Tarsis.
The trio realized the only way to save themselves was to stabilize the divide, making it permanent. The three of them must make peace with the possibility they will never become one again.

ELYSIAN SECRETS

See Cortex Entry: ELYSIAN SECRETS for More Details

Settling into a new routine, Erryl resumed study of the Elysian Manuscript. Nestled within the text, he found a strange pattern that formed a secret message from the Manuscript's primary author, Raban Maur. The message pointed to a Shaper ruin buried deep in the wilds. With Erryl's help, the Freelancer solved the riddle of Raban Maur and found a cache of ancient documents hidden away inside the ruin.

HIDDEN DEPTHS

See Cortex Entry: HIDDEN DEPTHS for More Details

Matthias learned the final resting place of the legendary Elysian Manuscript from the secrets in the Arcanist runes. Once again, Matthias contracted the Freelancer to venture out into the wilderness. This time, the Freelancer attempted to retrieve the Manuscript itself.
Matthias directed the Freelancer to the ancient ruin where the Elysian Manuscript was located. The Freelancer conquered the many obstacles and dangers in their path. The lost manuscript was found, and the wisdom held within it could once again be used for the greater good.

INVERSE FUNCTIONS

See Cortex Entry: INVERSE FUNCTIONS for More Details

Troubled after being divided by the Manifold, Matthias begged the Freelancer to help him seek answers. Their search led to Arcanist Aruna Kaule, a specialist in the strange effects of Shaper Energy.
Aruna realized the Manifold's division of Matthias was unstable, resulting in a slow but certain decay of reality around them. If left to run its course, the decay would destroy all three of the Matthiases.

LOST ARCANIST

See Cortex Entry: LOST ARCANIST for More Details

Searching for contracts, the Freelancer and Owen were approached by the mysterious Tassyn to track down missing Arcanist Matthias Erryl Sumner. The brilliant and reckless Matthias was exploring ruins near Fort Tarsis when he disappeared.
Following Matthias's radio signals, the Freelancer found the Arcanist in desperate straits, pinned down by Scars. The Freelancer routed the Scars and saved Matthias from certain death.

SEE IN THE DARK

See Cortex Entry: SEE IN THE DARK for More Details

Thanks to the Freelancer's heroism, Arcanist Matthias Sumner was free to continue his research. Certain that the young Freelancer was a new ally, Matthias revealed he was on the trail of the Elysian Manuscript, an ancient tome thought lost forever. To continue his search, Matthias needed to collect the knowledge contained in a series of invisible runes—secret writing left by Arcanists of yore.
Once the Freelancer helped Matthias read the runes, they revealed a wealth of hidden knowledge that brought Matthias closer to the Elysian Manuscript.

TELL ME MAUR

See Cortex Entry: TELL ME MAUR for More Details

Sumner would not allow the attempt on Matti's life to go unanswered. He vowed to track down the mysterious figures behind the attack. The Freelancer pursued the mercenaries hired to do the dirty deed, saving other Arcanists and recovering Raban Maur's data archive along the way. The investigation revealed that outlaws were hired by the Symposium of Anshar, a secret society of Arcanists responsible for murdering Raban Maur centuries ago.

THE AUSPEX

See Cortex Entry: THE AUSPEX for More Details

From Raban Maur's archive, the Matthiases learned the renowned Arcanist was murdered by the shadowy Symposium of Anshar for daring to keep his discovery—a relic called the Auspex—from them. Vowing to keep the Auspex from the Symposium, the trio once again teamed up with the Freelancer. They rushed to find the Auspex before the Symposium could.
Pursued by Symposium agents at every turn, the Freelancer retrieved the Auspex and brought it safely back to Fort Tarsis. The Symposium's nefarious plans were thwarted, at least for a while.

TRIPLE THREAT

See Cortex Entry: TRIPLE THREAT for More Details

Matthias Sumner's exploration of the Elysian Manuscript revealed the existence of a relic he called the Manifold. The Freelancer was sent into a Shaper ruin to retrieve it. There, they defeated a trio of Dominion Valkyries, and prevented the Manifold from falling into evil hands. Excitement often smothers good sense, and the thrill of receiving the Manifold quite overwhelmed Matthias. His impulsive tinkering with the relic went awry, and energies from the Manifold enveloped him, dividing him into three identical versions of himself.
