Adaxia Dell (1)

Born into the Antium royal line of succession, Dax is one of the most sought-after women in Bastion—much to her chagrin. Dax wishes she could simply be a cartographer like her Aunt Cardea, mapping the mysteries of uncharted lands. After embarrassing her stuffy family, Dax was banished to Fort Tarsis to learn discipline from the Sentinels.

Ryssa Brin is a driven Sentinel who was promoted at a young age after taking emergency leadership of the fort's defenses during a Scar attack that killed her commanding officer. Brin has been singularly focused on her job since she was a teenager—for which the other parts of her life have suffered, even if she doesn't see it that way.

Sentinel Barr,
Having reviewed the events, it's evident that the call was Brin's to make. You were not present. Had action not been taken, we would be arranging condolences for those families.
I don't care about "manners." Sentinel Brin is a diligent soldier. It would benefit you to see past her youth to what she's already done with it.
— Vule

We were fine. We were through. The Scars were in retreat. We didn't even know the relic was there. It went volatile. Elementals spilling all over the place. I'd rather face a dozen Scars than an unstable Shaper relic. Give me something I can outthink or outshoot instead of a reality-warping death-machine.
— Sentinel Brin, Sentinel report

"Yes, we differ in tactics, organization, and some would say, responsibility. Plus, chain of command. But protecting people? That's worth working together."

As the leader of Fort Tarsis Sentinels, Commander Vule may not always be nice, but he is always fair.

Commander Vule (2)

As Sentinels, you will not only sacrifice, but order others to sacrifice for the fort's survival. The responsibility is heavy. Decide now if it will break you. When you stand, you stand with the Sentinels. Together, you stand for these people. You stand for the fort. You may fall. Your friend may fall. But so long as one of us remains, these people, this place, will stand.

From the Office of Commander Vule:
Following regulations regarding holiday observance, Sentinel officers will be hanging wreaths containing Icetide Wishes throughout the entire Bastion region. These can be easily identified by the jingling sound they emit. Activation of the wreaths and collection of these wishes is encouraged as per acceptably joyful holiday tradition. Your cooperation is appreciated.

Tracking number: 3476.
Name of Complainant: Pirndel Blatch.
Address: #18, North Wall. Fort Tarsis
Complaint: I think my neighbor is a Regulator
Comments: I've noticed strange comings and goings at my neighbor's place over the past few weeks. No activity during the day, but then LOTS of activity with shady characters a few nights a week. There's a strange smell coming from their apartment (#19 North Wall) that I think is stinkhand. As you know, stinkhand is banned from Fort Tarsis because of its awful smell, and who would have access to that except Regulators? Thank you for your haste in this matter.

They looked carefully over the wall's edge. "Look at that Freelancer… blasting off into the great unknown. What good would we be if we left our post to traipse around the wilderness?"
Calahan looked at her. "Tarsis died to protect the people of Antium. If you're going to kick the bucket, it should be following her example. Not while off on a whim."

Vassa remembered the General's words when she smote the urgoth at the pass. That Antium, and all other settlements, must be protected even at the cost of her own life. And Vassa did say, "Go forth and know that as you stand sentinel at our walls, your vigilance and bravery bring peace to those who cannot pass the gateway."
— From The Volume of Tarsis

Sentinel Bonfire
See Cortex Entry: Sentinel Bonfire for More Details

"Humanity is a fire in a world of darkness."
A bonfire represents security, home and hearth. History documents Sentinels using bonfires to signal an enemy's approach, to warn of a catastrophic Shaper event, or to provide a clear destination for weary travelers. The fires brought order to chaos and created a place of sanctuary in a dangerous world.
Today, bonfires have become a monument to humanity's rightful place in the world. Sentinels continue their tradition by lighting seasonal bonfires in places of great danger; the flames are zealously guarded by Sentinels and Freelancers alike as an act of human defiance and power. Like banners and sacred places, the fires symbolize humanity's strength and unity to those who intend us harm.

Very happy Sentinels and Freelancers are working together. Sentinel Brin showed great vision and daring to encourage this.
Walls do not make us strong, people do. The more we have at our side—no matter who they report to—the better.
— Freelancer Yarrow

Given their reputation and the state of their order, reticence in working with the Freelancers was understandable—but should not be beyond reconsideration. Yes, we differ in tactics, organization, and some would say, responsibility. Plus—chain of command. But protecting people? That's worth working together.

There were Scars everywhere. I thought we were dead, but then I heard a thump on our strider's roof, guns going off, and the voice of a Sentinel telling us we had an escort. And those Sentinels were organized. Within moments, they had taken names, accounts of the event, and got us moving. They were a bit chilly, maybe, but they got the job done. And unlike Freelancers, they weren't going to take off on another job, you know? Sentinels are dependable.

Authorities that keep the peace and protect the people of Antium, on behalf of the Emperor.
“We protect the Royal House of Bastion and all its subjects.
We are the arm of the Royal House of Bastion, which must be obeyed.
We bring justice, for without justice there is no order.
And without order, there is anarchy.”
— Sentinel Vow
