Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like for the best view.
  • Scars and Outlaw infantry can be easily tackled with any combat equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
  • For Scar Scouts and Hunters, and Outlaw lancers and Gunners it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage.
  • Scar Hunters can do a lot of damage They must be a priority when tackling enemies. Once their shields are stripped, freeze them using ice or render them flightless with fire.
  • Outlaw Lancers and Shotguners, and Brutes and Ash Brutes have armored health. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them.
  • Doing any small Elemental Damage or acid damage can destroy Wyverns.
  • Stay away from elementals as they can spew their attacks or worse, explode when near a javelin to do a large damage.
  • Revive ally Sentinels to gain Ally Javelin Revived Feats and easy ultimate charges.
  • To fight the Mysterious Figures and Agent of the Symposium, see the Strategy for Outlaw Elementalist.

Raban Maur's final data archive gives you the location of "the Auspex," a relic that Maur kept from the Symposium of Anshar. These actions eventually led to his death. The Matthias trio wants to retrieve the Auspex before the Symposium can get to it.

Outcome: The Symposium's agents were defeated, and Raban Maur's Auspex was kept out of their hands and delivered safely to Fort Tarsis. Now it's up to the Matthias trio to figure out what it is, and what it does.

Quest Chain

This expedition is a part of the Riddles of Raban Maur Storyline. When the storyline is completed, an appropriate challenge is also completed, which will reward the Freelancer. The following are the related quests in order for this storyline:

  1. Elysian Secrets
  2. Ancient Footsteps
  3. Contract: Archive Hunt
  4. Tell Me Maur
  5. Contract: Decryption Research
  6. Secrets of the Auspex

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • This is the first time in a long time that Arcanists, Sentinels, and Freelancers have worked together because they wanted to and not because they were forced to do so through some contract.
  • Legendary Ash Brutes will show up during this mission making it their debut.
  • Other Legendary Enemies include multiple Legendary Outlaw Lancers, Shotgunners, and Elementalists (Mysterious Figures).
  • This marks the debut of Sentinel Konig and Sentinel Mallon.
  • This mission shows that Scars are simply inherently drawn towards unstable Shaper energy. That’s how they show up during any mission with an unstable relic in it!
  • This the first time Named Enemies show up without being Target Enemies!
  • Since Anthem’s further development was ended, the true secret of the Auspex may never be known, unfortunately.

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Secrets of the Auspex (Mission):

Briefing

The Matthias Trio is waiting to speak with the freelancer in the Matthias Lab.

  • The Freelancer: "I take it you got Raban Maur’s archive decrypted?"
  • Matti: "We did! Maur discovered a Shaper relic that he called the Auspex."
  • Erryl: "The Symposium wanted it. Maur refused them."
  • Sumner: "They pursued and eventually murdered him."
  • Matti: "But Maur knew the Symposium was coming. That’s why he covered everything up."
  • Erryl: "So the Symposium would never find out he hid the Auspex."
  • The Freelancer: "I see where this is going. You three know where it is."
  • Matti: "Yes! Data archive! So. Much. Everything!"
  • Sumner (To Matti): "Breathe."
  • Erryl: "What Matti is trying to say is that Maur’s archive tells us where the Auspex is."
  • The Freelancer: "Wait, what does the Auspex do?"
  • Matti: "Don’t know! You’ll just have to get there and bring it back, so we can examine it!"

Help the Trio Recover the Auspex

The Freelancer prepares for the expedition o recover the special relic.

Launch Expedition

The Freelancer goes outside of the Fort Tarsis walls.

Briefing Gallery

In Expedition

The Freelancer comes out of the Strider in Silent Path.

  • Matti: "I was picked to help guide you to the Auspex. Well, technically, I volunteered, and Erryl said, “That’s appropriate,” and Sumner said, “Whatever.” So, you get me! Anyway, you’re not far from where the Auspex is supposed to be."
  • The Freelancer: "On my way."

Travel to Auspex Location

The Freelancer flies towards the location provided by Matti.

  • The Freelancer: "Do you think the Symposium will show up?"
  • Matti: "Even if they do, they’ll be no match for you."
  • The Freelancer: "I… ah, appreciate the vote of confidence."
  • Matti: "Anytime!"

When the Freelancer reaches Lover's Springs, they see Wyverns hovering above.

  • The Freelancer: ""
  • Matti: "This is it. Maur writes he hid the Auspex “between spaces.” To reveal it requires… modulation of spatial qualities. Right, right, right, yeah. Yeah. Of course. Hey, do you have a transmitter on you jav? I need you to stick it on the ground."

Place Transmitter

The Freelancer places the transmitter on the location Matti has marked.

  • The Freelancer: "Okay. Setting down the transmitter."

Work in Progress

A Cypher Projected circle shows up. The Freelancer must remain inside the green circle. If they go out of it, the circle becomes orange, and the progress made starts to dwindle. If enemies enter the circle, it becomes pale in color and the progress continues, but slightly slower when compared to when it is green. Brutes begin to gate in. The Freelancer must ensure the progress is continued.

  • Matti: "If I’m reading this right, emitting a signal tuned to Maur’s numbers should reveal the Auspex."
  • The Freelancer: "So where is it?"
  • Matti: "And I thought I was the impatient one. Give it a sec!"

Soon, Ash Brutes, the chimeras formed from brutes start showing up. These are far more dangerous, so the Freelancer must be cautious! When the progress completes, a Shaper ruin with unstable Shaper energy reveals itself.

  • The Freelancer: "We got it!"
  • Matti: "That’s the Auspex."

Find a Way to Handle the Auspex Safely

  • The Freelancer: "It looks unstable! Did we do something wrong?"
  • Matti: "No? Maybe? Who knows? We need to stabilize it—quickly!"

Echoes Delivered

The Freelancer must stabilize the unstable ruin by depositing 8 echoes in it. The echoes are in the air this time around. There are also several Shaper Nodes among Fauna and Elementals in the vicinity. There will also be Legendary Enemies among them. Keep in mind that there is waterfall nearby the Scar banner, to cool down a javelin’s thrusters. When all the echoes are deposited, the ruin is stabilized and the Auspex is revealed.

Deliver the Auspex to Safety

  • The Freelancer: "It’s… uh, bigger than I expected."
  • Matti: "Is that bad?"
  • The Freelancer: "It’s fine. I’ll bring it back safely."
  • Matti: "Bring it to the strider! We’ll come meet you!"

Carry Auspex

The Freelancer picks up the Auspex. As the Freelancer is traveling to the strider, Outlaws gate in. There is a Legendary Outlaw Lancer among the gaggle. The Freelancer can simply choose to move on instead of taking the outlaws down if they want to.

  • The Freelancer: "Outlaws! The Symposium must have hired them again!"
  • Matti: "We have a problem! The outlaws are here too! They’ve set down traps and explosives… we can’t get to you! You have to keep going—head toward Fort Tarsis! And we were hoping it would be a nice stroll all the way back."

As the Freelancer continues,

  • Matti: "I have good news… (Stammers.) …and bad news. Good news is you’re awesome and you’re doing great. The bad news is: the Auspex isn’t. it’s volatile and getting worse."
  • The Freelancer: "you couldn’t have just said that to start?"
  • Matti: "Well,I like to put a positive spin on things."
  • The Freelancer: "Matti, there’s no way to spin “You’re holding an unstable Shaper relic”! What do I do?"
  • Matti: "Let me think! Let me think! Just keep going."

As the Freelancer reaches Honor Valley,

  • Matti: "Freelancer! I need you to set the Auspex down. In an open area, preferably! Erryl thinks we can do something to stabilize it temporarily."

The Freelancer places the relic amid the Sentinel Base.

Defend Auspex

Enemies start coming to get the Auspex. The Freelancer defends the relic.

  • Matti: "Okay, I’m gonna try dampening the unstable oscillations by creating a localized resonatic vortex through your jav."
  • The Freelancer: "Uh—"
  • Matti: "Don’t stray too far!"
  • The Freelancer: "Okay, that part I understand."

As the work progresses, Elementals start to show up among Legendary Enemies.

  • Matti: "Just so you know, the Auspex might cause a disturbance in your general vicinity. Energy imbalances, chaos pockets, that sort of thing."
  • The Freelancer: "Elementals?"
  • Matti: "That too! That’s good, though! It means it’s working!"

When the progress has completed,

  • Matti: "Good news and bad news!"
  • The Freelancer: "Just give me the bad news."
  • Matti: "The plan didn’t work. It’s still unstable. And… you have to hurry to safety."
  • The Freelancer: "Where? Are outlaws still harassing the strider?"
  • Matti: "Forget the strider! Head to Fort Tarsis! We’ll meet you there and try to contain it then!"

Carry the Auspex

The freelancer carries the Auspex towards the Fort.

  • The Freelancer: "Matti! How am I doing? How long do I have?"
  • Matti: "Ahhh, extrapolating from the rate of decay, somewhere between 2 minutes and four months."
  • The Freelancer: "Matti!"

Outlaws and Elementals continue to block the way of the Freelancer while the Auspex is being taken to safety. As the freelancer reaches The Bowl, Sentinels have barricaded the area amid Scar structures. The Freelancer’s link is interrupted by a familiar and friendly voice.

  • Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer, hello! Brin here. Matthias called in. I found you some help! Sentinels!"
  • Sentinel Konig: "Got your back, Freelancer!"
  • Sentinel Mallon: "Outlaws incoming! Lots of ‘em."
  • Matti: "Sounds like a giant firefight on its way! Can you put the Auspex somewhere safe?"

The Freelancer places the Auspex in a safe location.

  • The Freelancer: "Okay. The Auspex should be fine here!"
  • Matti: "Make sur they don’t get it!"

Several outlaws begin to gate in.

Defend Auspex

The Freelancer along with their allies, Sentinel Konig and Sentinel Mallon defend the Auspex by keeping the enemies away.

  • Matti: "Where’s the Auspex? Is it still safe?"
  • The Freelancer: "Yes, Matti!"
  • Matti: "Don’t strat too far!"
  • The Freelancer: "I know what I’m doing!"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Sentinels, come on!"

Meanwhile, Scar hives show up on the surface!

  • The Freelancer: "Scars!"
  • Matti: "They must be drawn to the Auspex! Don’t let them take it!"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Keep up the pressure, Sentinels!"

If the Freelancer destroys the Scar hives, Scars top showing up. If the Freelancer’s health goes low,

  • Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer needs support."

When all Scars are defeated, mysterious enemies start showing up!

  • Sentinel Konig: "Who are these people?"

Defeat Symposium Agent

Several Mysterious Figures start to show up through gates.

  • Agent of the Symposium: "Do you really think you can keep the Auspex from us?"
  • The Freelancer: "Maybe I should let you have it. It’s volatile—with any luck, you’ll blow yourself up."
  • Sentinel Konig: "What is that relic doing?"
  • The Freelancer: "Dammit, you… stupid… thing! Now is really not a good time."

The Auspex starts going volatile and begins attracting Elementals. The Freelancer keeps fighting all the new enemies.

  • Agent of the Symposium: "You cannot destroy the Symposium of Anshar! We are everywhere!"
  • The Freelancer: "More elementals!"

As the combat continues, the Auspex will spew Ash Elementals.

  • Sentinel Konig: "More elementals!"
  • Sentinel Mallon: "Your relic is leaking elementals! Or something!"

Agent of the Symposium is finally defeated!

  • The Freelancer: "The Symposium’s agent is down. We did it."
  • Matti: "That’s for all the Arcanists he killed. And almost killed."
  • The Freelancer: "Thanks, Brin. Couldn’t have done it without you help."
  • Sentinel Brin: "I know. Now you better get that thing to Matthias’s Lab. Brin, signing off."
  • The Freelancer: ""
  • Matti: "What she said! We have a containment device ready. Once it’s stable, we’ll figure out what it does."

The Freelancer returns to the Fort victorious!

Post Expedition

Talk to the Trio about the Auspex

The Freelancer quickly meets with the Matthias Trio to find out more about the Auspex.

Meet with Trio

  • Sumner: "One minute? You can’t even take a dump in one minute."
  • Erryl: "It kept Maur one step ahead of the Symposium."
  • Matti: "And he stashed it away. He must’ve known they’d get him, once he did that. But he did it anyway! Hero."
  • The Freelancer: "Are you talking about the Auspex? What does it actually do?"
  • Erryl: "It reads the surrounding environment and calculates possible outcomes."
  • The Freelancer: "It predicts the future?"
  • Erryl: "It predicts possible futures."
  • Sumner: "If you consider “one minute from now” to be “the future.” Which I don’t."
  • The Freelancer: ""
  • Erryl: "The greater the range, the greater the possibilities. Nothing can do that."
  • The Freelancer: "Do you know how to access this power?"
  • Matti: "Er, not yet, but we’re investigating."
  • The Freelancer: "What about the Symposium? Did you hear what their agent said? They’re here in the fort."
  • Sumner: "We heard."
  • Erryl: "There’s nothing to be done about it now. We can’t give up our work."
  • Matti: "Besides you’re here. We know we can call on you for help."
  • The Freelancer: "Just… be careful. And keep in touch. I want to see how this develops."
  • Sumner: "You’re always the first to know."
