Scelos isn't just the pilot. It and the tank are fused together. |
Scelos is the Final Boss in The Temple of Scar. Scelos is an Escari that leads the Scar swarm located in Scar's Duskheap.
Etymology and Anatomy
Scelos is an Escari who ascends to become a Luminary. She looks like a standard Luminary inside a scar tank. The Scar tank has 4 pneumatic armored legs, a barriered head, and rocket pods.
But, since Scelos has tampered with a Shaper Construct, she controls its activity. Scelos remains in the center of the arena and can become barriered by an impenetrable Shaper energy shield by summoning 3 pylons from the wall.
Narrative Involvement
Corvus tracks an Escari named Scelos who plans on using a Shaper Construct located inside the Scar’s Duskheap in the Eastern Reach for an unknown reason. The Freelancer and their team is hired by Corvus to infiltrate this scar nest. The nest is deep and well-fortified.
After defeating multitudes of Scars, including several high-ranking and heavy enemies, powerful turrets, and other defenses, the team finally reaches the heart of the Shaper Construct. By this time, the Escari has reached a new critical mass and has become a Luminary.
Scelos somehow fuses herself with the tank making it partly organic when the team reaches the construct. As Scelos begins operating the construct, it becomes evident that her goal was to create more scars by causing a cataclysm. Once this was realized, the Freelancer had to put an end to her plans. After fighting through waves of scars and damaging the pylons, Scelos is finally defeated and the cataclysm is stopped before it spreads.
Encountered Expeditions
At least one Scelos can show up in the below list.
Encounter Locations
The following places are all the locations where Scelos can be found, either physically or in the lore. They may not be always found there, but have a high chance of being found in these locations.
Strategy
When all defenses are cleared out and the construct arena is reached, Scelos rises up and points her laser at one javelin to begin her attacks.

Overview
Scelos has 5 health bar pips. The combat with her has 5 phases, but the phase division works slightly differently: a new phase starts at the end of 5-10%, 33%, 66% and 80% of her total health pool. However, if enough damage is done, it is possible to finish the battle in one or two phases, especially as a colossus that can do very high ultimate damage on her weak points. When enclosed inside the Shaper Shield, Scelos cannot receive any damage, but she can still attack.
Scelos can continuously keep attacking until her health is depleted. At the depletion of certain amount of health (see the percentages above), Scelos becomes encased in her Shaper Energy Shield. When this happens, her attack rate becomes very low.
Scelos’ Fires a Missiles
celos’ attack pattern is very regular. She first fires her machine gun, then points her laser at one javelin to fire her cannon, and finally, come the salvo of rockets. If Scelos remains unshielded, and any enemy approaches her legs, she can stomp on them or even send out a burst of fire jet that can stagger and burn her enemies.
The most important thing to remember is Scelos’ weak points are covered in a plate of armor. They become visible only when this plate is destroyed. In total, there are 4 weak points on the joints of each of the pneumatic legs and one on the tank’s “head”. When these weak points are severely damaged, fire gushes out of them.
Scelos’ Salvo of Rockets
The number of rockets coming out of Scelos’ rocket pods can be reduced by targeting and damaging the cannon. The more damage it has taken, the fewer missiles it fires.
Be wary of the rotating Shaper Blades which show up whenever Scelos is shielded. They can do very high damage and even knock out a javelin under their blades by doing continuous damage.
It is best to target the pylons behind the blades first, the scar spawns next, and then Scelos, as the amount of net damage that a javelin can receive during any phase only keep increasing because everything can attack. If any spawned scars are not defeated, then they will remain and continue to dish out damage to the javelins during the course of each phase and will add to the net number of scars in subsequent phases. This means more damage to the javelin.
There are several safe spots inside the arena. There are usually temporary walls made of metal or wood or natural formations of rocks and mud. Use them for cover if feeling overwhelmed.
Scelos Weak Points become Clearly Visible when They are Damageds
celos and the spawned Scars will regularly drop ammo and repair packs. Collect these resupplies to make sure the whole team doesn’t get knocked out in order to avoid restarting the fight.
Note: If enough damage is done to the “head” of the tank, it is possible to down the tank for short duration. This is a very good time to destroy the armor plates on her joints and head to expose the weak points. When weak points are damaged, they begin to spew out (non-damaging) fire. It is also possible to damage the rocket pods.
Combat
Scelos’ Causes the Construct to Spawn Scars
When the first 5-10% of her overall health is depleted, the real battle begins. At this point, Scelos becomes shielded, and the pylons protrude out of the walls. Scelos immediately makes the construct spawn Elite enemies: Scar Scrappers and Scar Destroyers. Be wary of the Destroyers’ Seeker Mines as theyare made of acid and will damage and lower javelin resistance upon explosion.
Once the Construct is damaged enough, it retracts, exposing Scelos. At this point, defeat the spawns first and then target Scelos’ weak points.
Scelos’ Collapses due to Severe Damage to Her Head
At the end of 33% of her total health, Scelos becomes shielded again. More spawns of Legendary enemies, Scar Scouts and Scar Hunters, are created by the construct, apart from new elite scrappers and destroyers.
At the end of 66% of her total health, Scelos becomes shielded again to spawn more scars.
At the end of 80% of her total health, Scelos becomes shielded for the final time, and this time, along with other scars, she makes the construct spawn Legendary Scar Enforcers.
When 100% of Scelos’ health is depleted, any spawned scar remaining in the arena will disappear, and the construct will be silenced.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- In most guides and Community Cortex, Scelos is gendered with female pronouns. In the actual game, Scelos is referred to as ‘it’. In this page, she is gendered to distinguish her from other generic Escari and Luminary enemies.
- Scelos can make unintelligible noises while she is attacking.
- The Shaper Construct is actually a Shaper Relic.
- Usually Luminaries and Escari are simply Scars inside the tank. However, Scelos fuses herself with it to heal her wounds from her previous fight against Corvus.
- Scelos is the only known Escari to have ascended to Luminary during a mission.
- There is a rare bug that makes the Shaper construct come completely out of the walls and protrude very close to Scelos making it difficult to fight her as the blades can do massive damage.
- The final arena can have a day or a night cycle and the lighting of the arena depends upon that.
- The ability names are taken from the Anthem Prima Guide and datamined files. They may have been slightly modified to avoid confusion with other in-game names.
