Sanctuary Ruins was a landmark, located in the nation of Bastion, but is now a ruin on the planet Coda, as of the year 468 LV.

History

During the time of the resistance of the Legion of Dawn, there has been the mention of a sanctuary that the Legion had built where the human rebels hid and plotted. This place has to be one of three landmarks: the Fortress of Dawn, the Haven or the Sanctuary of Dunar. Since all three locations have the same Legion of Dawn architecture, the location may truly never be known. However, since the Haven had to be abandoned because the Urgoth eventually found its location, and the people were still migrating to the fortress, the sanctuary may very well be the Sanctuary of Dunar. The evidence for this is records that indicate the Sanctuary of Dunar was built a very long time ago, but wasn’t very prominent.

After the year 150 LV, Arcanists began to occupy this sanctuary and made it their academy. Arcanists as famous as Mederines and Raban Maur studied and lived in the sanctuary. Unfortunately, a young Arcanist brought a relic to study in the sanctuary’s library, and accidentally unleashed a cataclysm that destroyed the Sanctuary of Dunar, taking the lives of hundreds and losing all the knowledge it has kept in its walls.

In the year 468 LV, an Arcanist by the name of Erryl uncovered a secret stash of scrolls called the Elysian Manuscript with the help of the Freelancer in the ruins. This eventually led to find the location of a Shaper relic called the Auspex, which showed the possible outcomes of any future events that may occur.

Months after the Heart of Rage was silenced, a Dominion officer by the name Vara Brom disturbed a Shaper ruin to unleash a reality altering cataclysm called the Echo of Reality. Around this time, several storm cloud leading to various anomalies showed up in Northern Bastion. One of these storm clouds was a gate to enter the reality, and it showed up above the skies of the Emerald Abyss. Unfortunately, as this cataclysm was spreading, it disturbed several Shaper structures, one of them, colloquially called the “Shaper Snake” emerged from the under of the cliffs where the Sanctuary Ruins were located, and dispersed an enormous amount of Shaper energy which was so off the charts that it scorched much of the already ruined sanctuary. The two tall towers were reduced to ashes while the “Shaper Snake” stood taller than ever.

During the Season of Skulls Festival of the same year, the Paladins tasked The Freelancer to light a shrine to remember their fallen near the ruins.

Geography of Sanctuary Ruins

The Sanctuary Ruins are a human ruin that is believed to exist since the time of the Legion. It has the same architecture as that of other Legion of Dawn architecture. It is a series of tall buildings constructed on either side of the banks of a deep river, which were initially connected to each other by a bridge. But the first cataclysm that destroyed the city of Dunar essentially also destroyed this connecting bridge.

After its first destruction, nature had overtaken the ruins. Flora including vines and bushes had been growing amid the moss-covered walls of the ruins. Fallen debris and structures could be found everywhere. Docile and hostile Fauna could be found in and around the ruins. Several factions tried to overtake the ruins, but so far, as of 468 LV, haven’t been successful in doing so.

Flora

The following are the revealed varieties of plantlife that are guaranteed to be found in Sanctuary Ruins. Even a single instance of the flora found in this location is listed here. There may still be more plants that aren't accurately charted:

  1. Burned Tree
  2. Woody Vine

Creatures

The creatures marked with and are found only through World Encounters and World Events respectively. Those unmarked may also be found in such events, but are usually found on their own. The following types of fauna, Chimera, and Elementals are revealed to be found in Sanctuary Ruins. There may also be small Insects which are tough to identify. Weaponized and Shaper Corrupt creatures are not listed here

Enemy Encounters

There may not be any specific enemies that belong to any known factions here. Hostile flora and fauna, if found here, aren't considered as enemy encounters.

In 468 LV, the Spear, a powerful Dominion Valkyrie leader, tampered with Shaper instruments in the Bastion region—this resulted in the formation of a Cataclysm known as the "Echoes of Reality." As a side-effect of this tampering, the Cataclysm unleashed a wave of energy that caused Shaper instruments throughout the region to activate unpredictably. One such instrument obliterated the ancient ruins of Sanctuary in the Emerald Abyss.

Expedition List

Sanctuary Ruins isn't particularly visited during any expedition. However, it is possible that Sanctuary Ruins may have served as a connection between two locations during some expeditions. There may also be several instances of World Events in Freeplay that show up in or around this place.
