A Time Trial called Rust Bowl Run has been set up by Fort Tarsis in the High Road Subregion and Great Falls Canyon Subregion. It is time for the Freelancer to show a special display of non-combat skills!
During Icetide of 468 LV, Freelancer Races called Time Trials were set up. Lancers from all across Bastion participated in these races. The top performers were rewarded with handsome rewards! These races showed up later as well.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough after the Cortex Entry section for documentation.
- Use Heat Sink, and Thermal Cooling type Universal Components in all Javelins
- Thermal Regulator, Vented Thrusters, Tactical Advantage, and Elemental Ops type Ranger Components in Ranger javelin.
- Additionally, there is an Inscription called Thruster Cooldown which is usually found in Javelin Specific Components. Having a high value will give an increment in flight duration. This is also called Thruster Life.
- Stacking Epic, Rare, and Uncommon type heat Sigil will increase flight duration.
- Performing Time Trials during the Winter Season will increase flight duration due to the weather condition.
- Additional Inscriptions like Overheat Delay Recovery, Thruster Speed, and Effect Resist will help against enemies that target thrusters.
- Using the Coolant Pods that are spread around the trial will help cool-down a javelin immediately and keep it cool for a short duration afterward.
- Avoiding electrical Hazards will help against a javelin becoming subjugated under
Overheated and
electrocuted Statuses. - Avoid enemy attacks that can put a javelin under the
frozen and
burning Statuses. - There will be a 10 second delay before the actual start of the race. it becomes 15 seconds, if there is at least one other person in the session.
- It is possible to destroy the electrical hazards before and during the race. If there are team mates, they can assist with this task.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Rust Bowl Run may be a nod to the utilitarian destruction caused by rusting Scar structures which the Freelancer could not prevent.
- Fortress Run is the only trial whose start platform is significantly high above the ground, compared to the others.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Rust Bowl Run:
Briefing
The Freelancer can start the trial anytime during a Freeplay session. Usually, Faye will give a cue when a Time Trial's start platform is nearby.
In Expedition
The Freelancer must complete the trial within the objective times to get rewards.
Post Expedition
Any rewards received can be collected.
Notes and Remarks
- If a trial fails, a banner will pop up stating Race Failed
- The log for Time Trials will continue to show up until either the race is completed or failed.
- The dialogs mentioned in the script can vary across different play-throughs and different repetition of the game modes. The dialog will be taken from a pool that get rotated in-game. The script mentioned here is from one such instance only.
