While Haluk and Faye work on fixing the Dawn Shield using the seal given by Faye, the Freelancer must do all they can to prepare to enter the cataclysm.
This is a good opportunity to finish any unfinished business by going outside the Fort Tarsis walls. Because once they return, the dawn shield will have been fixed and there is only one way forward: end to the Heart of Rage at any cost.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- Make sure to read the text pop ups that show up with the icon
. This can be easily done with the help of Sniper Rifles, by zooming in near the icon. - The dialogs during this mission are not the same as the ones during the Heart of Rage Stronghold and Seasonal Expedition.
- In the beginning, this mission was among the toughest mission as the Dominion Brutes had an additional shield as health and enemy shields were tougher to deplete. Even after balance changes, the mission still remains very tough to solo. Make sure to equip lots of armor and shields, and equip the most damage dealing Combat Equipment.
- Ancient Ash Titans are very tough enemies. Using
Acid or
Armor Buster types of damages is the most effective way to fight them. Make sure to focus on their weak points, since it is the most effective way to defeat them. When only a fourth of the Titan’s health remains, green and blue circles show up on the ground. At this time, it starts randomly throwing its attack. If the Titan is destroyed before the two circles meet, the rewards received will have a better chance of having a high rarity. - Furies have a massive health pool. Quickly deplete their shields and stard damaging their armor. They can go inside their crystal barrier to recover health. Their entropy attacks are randomized and do large amount of damage. During such times, it is best to take cover. See Dominion Fury for more details on ways to tackle them.
- Use
Acid,
Armor Buster, or
Fire type damage to tackle Dominion Brutes or Turrets. - Use
Ice or
Lightning or
Shield Breaker damages to deplete any shields of enemies. - Set the Dominion Valkyries on burning status by doing Fire damage to them and disable their flight until the status wears off.
- Avoid defeating elite type Dominion Shocktroopers and remaining near them, because they drop loose death rattle grenades after their health is depleted, which self explode in a matter of seconds to do massive Lightning Blast damage.
- The Frost Hounds are very vulnerable to fire attack.
- For full details on fighting and defeating the final boss of this mission, see The Monitor (Transcendent Form).
- It is also recommended to make use of any explosives scattered across the map during combat when in need.
- Starting from a second playthrough, if Crafting Blueprints are unlocked, it is possible to craft combat equipment to improve the health and damage output of the Freelancer's javelins.
- Credits start playing after the mission ends. After the credits, there is a special cut scene.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Two years ago, in 466 LV, the title of "Javelin One" was given to Haluk's Javelin. During this mission, it is given to the Freelancer's javelin.
- The Dawn Shield is never shown to be equipped on the Freelancer’s javelin inside the cataclysm. But can be seen on Haluk’s javelin and Owen’s Javelin of Dawn. However, the cut scenes and forge will show it equipped during the Crafting the Dawn Shield mission.
- Tassyn was true to her words and had ordered the Sentinels to march towards the Heart of Rage, which was sensed by Faye.
- A text popup is available in the far-right side of the first lava-chasm near a tree, on a wyvern skeleton that reads:
- The Heart of Rage Cataclysm spawned this corrupted wyvern. This is the beast that pulled you from the sky.
- The final mission itself is designed like a race to reach the Cenotaph. Unfortunately, the Freelancer loses the race, yet ends the cataclysm.
- Although Haluk and Faye keep mentioning about the storm being worse because a lot of time has passed since their previous encounter, ironically, the storm two years ago looked worse. However, this is a design choice for players to be not distracted. This can also be explained as an effect of the Dawn Shield, since its purpose was to protect the javelin from the storm.
- In the grounder area, it would seem like Faye is trying to help the Freelancer in any way she can, but from the previous mission, it is obvious that she desperately wants to listen to the Anthem. However, when she hears it later, Faye lets the Anthem go.
- Haluk makes it sound like the Dominion messed with the relic and it had negative consequences. In reality, the Dominion not only messed with the relic, but they also tethered two Fury guardians and hid the key to the shaper door inside them. A similar preset is done by Vara Brom during Echoes of Reality when she makes her Spear the key to stop the Cataclysm.
- This is one of the few times when the objective specifically tells to “Kill” an enemy, in this case it is Keeper and Hoarder. It is usually “Defeat” the enemies.
- The Monitor essentially tries to recreate the world thrice using fire, acid, and lightning. But before he could try other ways, such as ice, he loses control over the Anthem. Or rather, the Anthem rejects him.
- Ironically, the Monitor never had control over the Anthem. Instead, from what little lore is found regarding the Shapers and Anthem, the Monitor was actually a corrupted by Shaper energies.
- Standing inside the glowing spherical fields can amplify the damage done to the monitor by 1.5 times. If all 4 energy fields are occupied by 4 different lancers, the gun damage is a whopping 5 times! This is one of the reasons why the Monitor had such a massive health pool.
- Since Faye was connected to the Monitor, it can be assumed that she was he one who caused him to falter several times, and eventually, bring him out of his transcendent form. This hasn’t been properly explained yet.
- The final cut scene is the first time an Urgoth is physically shown.
- Additional content like Grandmaster difficulties, new Strongholds, , and Legendary Missions are unlocked.
- After the mission ends, it is not made obvious how everyone returns to the Fort with Haluk’s strider down. But since Tassyn’s Sentinels were heading towards Freemark anyway, it can be assumed they took the heroes back to the Fort with them.
- It is hinted that corvus collected Monitor’s javelin, but the true fate of the Monitor is never revealed on screen.
- The murals shown during the credit sequence after finishing the mission has the adventures of the Freelancer throughout the Legend of the Heart of Rage.
- The credit sequence is updated after the release of Echoes of Reality, but the murals in the credit will remain the same.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Return to the Heart of Rage (Mission):
Briefing
Haluk and Faye begin working on the Dawn Shield to fix its issues.
Wait for Haluk to Complete the Dawn Shield
Haluk needs some time to integrate the reverse engineered Seal Fragment that Owen gave to the Freelancer. Faye will also help him with that.
Do any Mission, Contract, or Freeplay
The Freelancer goes outside the walls and completes any unfinished business before returning to Fort Tarsis to meet with Haluk and Faye.
Prepare to return to the Heart of Rage
The Freelancer prepares for the mission to end the decade long cataclysm.
Find Haluk
Haluk and Faye are waiting by the Freelancer’s javelin at the Fort Tarsis Forge. Haluk is holding a switch button.
- Faye: "It works."
- Haluk: "It does work… (Laughs.)"
- Faye: "Yeah, put it on."
- The Freelancer: "You have news?"
- Faye: "Good news. Watch."
- Haluk: "Are you ready?"
Haluk clicks the switch in this hand. A bright flash of energy covers the Freelancer’s javelin. Haluk is overjoyed. He walks down from the Launch Pad while Faye holds her waist. Everyone examines the marvel of the Dawn Shield right before their eyes, and it is magnificent!
- Haluk: "(Laughs.)"
- Faye: "(Laughs.)"
- Haluk: "(Exhales.)"
- The Freelancer: "Amazing. You did it."
- Haluk: "Yeah."
- The Freelancer: "Where’s yours? You’ll need a Dawn Shield too."
Faye cautiously shakes her head, possibly trying to hint the Freelancer to not try to coerce Haluk to pilot his javelin.
- Faye: "Haluk’s not taking his javelin into the storm with you."
- The Freelancer: "No?"
- Haluk: "Nope. The strider withstood the storm last time. I will make sure she does it again."
Faye smiles at the Freelancer as Haluk looks at her. When he turns towards the Freelancer, Faye sighs with relief.
- Faye: "Hey, what’s going to happen when I hear the Anthem? What if I lose myself?"
- The Freelancer: "You won’t. “Strong Alone, Stronger Together,” right?"
- Haluk: "Ha! Who told you that?"
Haluk winks at the Freelancer while Faye still doubts herself.
- The Freelancer: "Perfect. The Monitor probably thinks he's won. He won't even see us coming."
Haluk pats the Freelancer.
- Haluk: " Come on, Freelancer, we got a new legend to write."
As the strider travels through Northern Bastion, through the Shadow Lock and into Freemark, Faye drinks a beverage, while nervously pacing around when Haluk walks into the kitchen area. When the Freelancer offers to pour more tea, Faye declines the offer and instead check the map laid out on the table.
- Haluk: "Ay yi yi. Like being thrown down the stairs in a barrel. Tough it out a little longer, okay? This is as far as I can take us before the strider gets ripped to shreds."
Faye, still concerned, tries to walk away. Haluk stops her by grabbing her arm.
- Haluk: "(Exhales.) Faye?"
- Faye: "I’m fine. I’m fine. Get ready."
Faye goes to her amplifier chair, still bearing a look of concern on her face
- The Freelancer: "It wasn’t this bad before."
- Haluk: "No, it wasn’t. Could be the Heart of Rage is growing. Could be the Monitor messing with the Cenotaph."
Haluk taps a support wall and walks downstairs towards the launch pads where the Freelancer’s javelin is standing ready. The Freelancer follows.
- Haluk: "Woah. (Exhales.) Winds are crazy. Watch the ripstream out there. You already met the wildlife. Watch for shadows; that's how you know they're diving at you."
- The Freelancer: "Got it."
- Haluk: "The updraft from the lava will mess with your thrusters. Just push through as fast as you can."
- Faye: "I'm... picking up striders. Tassyn's Sentinels, I think. They're hours away. It's just us and the Dominion now."
- Haluk: "Good! This is a Freelancer job. Always has been."
Haluk pats the Freelancer.
- Faye [Loudspeaker] : "Ready, Javelin One?"
- The Freelancer: "Ready when you are."
- Haluk: "We've got your back. You go there and you kick some ass."
The Freelancer enters their javelin and gets outside of Haluk's Strider.

In Expedition
Race to Silence the Cenotaph
The Freelancer must get to the Cenotaph before the Monitor does.
Enter Freemark
The Freelancer lands among igneous rocks in the Freemark Outskirts. There is lava everywhere, which means flight can be difficult to maintain for longer durations.
- The Freelancer: "Team? Check in."
- Faye: "I can’t… focus. I’m with you but… it’s hard to think."
- The Freelancer: "Just hang in there Faye."
- Haluk: "Don’t worry about us. Faye’s got us patched to Dominion comms, and I’ve got an eye on the weather. Anything’s coming we’ll know. Just focus on the mission."
- The Freelancer: "We’re really back. I can’t believe I’m seeing this again."
- Haluk: "You got this. Head for the city ruins up the hill."
When the Freelancer reaches the ruined entrance of Freemark, a familiar voice can be heard
- The Monitor: "Freelancer! Still alive, huh? I was afraid you weren’t coming."
- The Freelancer: "Yeah, I bet the lack of an audience was just killing you."
- The Monitor: "Something like that. Let’s see is you can meet me at the Cenotaph. I know you’ll appreciate what I’m about to do."
- The Freelancer: "They’re dug in."
- Haluk: "They’re entrenched to hold back Tassyn’s Sentinels. You’ve seen worse than this."
Defeat Dominion
The Freelancer fights hordes of Dominion enemies and turrets.
- The Freelancer: "This place brings back memories. Not the good kind."
- Haluk: "Yeah but you can do this. Hang in there."
When more enemies gate in.
- Haluk: "Don’t try to punch through their defenses. Flank them and blow those bastards to hell."
When the Freelancer defeats all the Dominion.
- Faye: "You’re clear."
- Haluk: "Good work. Keep after the Monitor."
Travel Further
The Freelancer flies inside the ruined city by flying above a trench of lava. There are a few Dominion enemies here, but it is up to the Freelancer to defeat them or simply press on. The Freelancer hears a raspy sound.
- The Freelancer: "That sounds… familiar."
Defeat Titan
An Ancient Ash Titan is fighting Dominion shock troopers. This is the same one that mercilessly killed Freelancer Miller and Freelancer Adair two years ago. The Freelancer cannot allow it to wreak more havoc.
- The Freelancer: "I feel strange watching this happen a second time."
- Haluk: "Hey, this time, you know how to take one of these monsters down. Time for some payback, yeah?"
The Freelancer fights the monstrous fire spurting titan among other Ash Elementals and valiantly defeats them all!
- The Freelancer: "It’s down."
- Haluk: "I can’t tell you how good it was to watch that thing die."
Explore Onward
- Faye: "Keep going. there’s more Dominion ahead of you."
The Freelancer flies ahead.
- The Freelancer: "We’re farther into the Heart of Rage than any Freelancer’s ever been."
- Faye: "(Painful cry.)"
- The Freelancer: "Faye! Are you all right? Haluk, can you hear me? Is Faye…?"
- The Monitor: "What’s the matter? Lost your cypher? The weak minds just can’t handle the Anthem can they? She tried so hard, too."
- The Freelancer: "Don’t worry. You haven’t lost your audience. I’ll be seeing you soon."
- The Monitor: "Looking forward to it."
Defeat Enemies
More Dominion enemies are trying to stop the Freelancer. While the Freelancer cannot hear Faye or Haluk, they fight on and then defeats them all and moves further
Disable Grounder
The Dominion has setup a grounder.
Time Remaining
There is a grounder disabling thruster-based flights, making it difficult to reach to the higher level
- Faye: "They’ve got a grounder. Have to destroy it to get up the cliff."
Several Dominion enemies are present here, and more gate in. The Freelancer remains in the green cypher projection circle to stay within the range for Faye to disable the grounder, while fighting the Dominion. The Freelancer must remain within the range during the process and defeat enemies while they are at it. If enemies enter the circle, then the disabling process slows down, and the circle becomes pale in color. If the Freelancer steps outside the range, the circle turns orange, and the progress made dwindles.
- Faye: "I’m here. I’m still… with you."
- The Freelancer: "Good to hear your voice again! But maybe… you should fall back? Get out of the storm?"
- Faye: "No. I won’t… leave you to do this alone. Get close to the grounder. I can… shut it down."
The grounder is shut down.
- Faye: "There! It’s down."
- The Freelancer: "You’re the best, Faye."
Race to Silence the Cenotaph
The Freelancer flies ahead to explore the ruins of the once proud city.
Explore Further
- Haluk: "The storm’s getting worse by the second. You’ve got to hurry."
- The Monitor: "How touching. Your little friends are back. I’m getting all misty-eyed."
- The Freelancer: "I’ll give you something to cry about."
When the Freelancer reaches a Shaper door, it seem to be connected to an Echo Lock.
Silence the Relic
There is a volatile Shaper relic activated by the Dominion. It must be silenced before proceeding.
Echoes Delivered
The Freelancer must deposit 10 Echoes into the Echo Receptacle Shaper ruin to open the shaper door stopping their path.
Defeat enemies
Several enemies are present to prevent the Freelancer from moving through the door.
- The Freelancer: "Is that a relic?"
- Haluk: "Dominion messed with something they couldn’t control, and it bit them in the ass. Typical. You’re gonna have to silence it to get through to the Cenotaph."
- Faye: "Echoes. You’ll need…"
- The Freelancer: "Don’t worry Faye. I’m on it."
As the Freelancer defeats the enemies, more of them gate in. This time, they are tougher.
- Faye: "Incoming."
- Haluk: "They’re sending Brutes your way. You know the drill. Shut this thing down!"
When the Freelancer silences the relic, nothing happens. Even more enemies gate in.
- Haluk: "They’re calling in air support. Watch your back."
Several Valkyries show up. But the Freelancer defeats every last enemy!
- Haluk: "The door’s till shut! Why is the door shut?"
As the freelancer looks around while nothing seems to be happening, two gates emerge by the silenced relic.
- Faye: "Furies! Furies… are the guardians… holding the door."
- The Freelancer: "They just don’t give up, do they?"
Race to Silence the Cenotaph
The Freelancer must defeat the furies to proceed.
Kill the Dominion Furies
Two Furies by the name of Keeper and Hoarder show up and the Freelancer has to fight them to get the Shaper door. The furies are tethered to the door and defeating them will provide a Key Item each to unlock it. The echo lock was clearly a distraction to slow down the Freelancer. The Freelancer fights Keeper and Hoarder. Each defeated fury drops a key, collecting which will help open the Shaper door.
- Faye: "The keys… hurry."
Pick up keys
When the furies are killed, the Freelancer has to collect them to open the door. The Shaper door leading to The Cenotaph Ruins finally opens.
Reach the Cenotaph
- Haluk: "That’s it. There’s nothing between you and the Cenotaph!"
The Freelancer flies towards an intact brick wall blocking the way to the Cenotaph.
Stop the Monitor
The only thing remaining is stopping the Monitor from weaponizing the Cenotaph. The Freelancer walks to the brick wall and makes it collapse with just one hit, and then walks through the rubble
- The Freelancer: "Okay. I’m in the eye of the storm. Owen was right—the Monitor has a machine connected to the Cenotaph."
The machine hooked to the Cenotaph is making it more and more volatile. Loud thrumming noises emit enormous amounts of Shaper energy.
- Faye: "He… I can communicate with the Monitor. His mind is open to me."
The Monitor stands in front of the volatile Cenotaph with his arms wide open, as if embracing the Anthem. The Freelancer goes to the Monitor.
- The Freelancer: "Learn whatever you can. I’ve never seen anything like this—and it’s blocking my access to the relic inside."
- Faye: "The Anthem… it’s calling me."
- The Freelancer: "Come on Faye, I need you. This is the Heart of Rage. I need my cypher. Faye?"
While the Freelancer can neither hear Faye, nor Haluk, they speak to the Monitor, still basking in the Anthem’s power.
- The Freelancer: "You may have beat me here, but I’m silencing the Cenotaph."
The Freelancer pulls the Monitor. The Monitor collapses. His suit’s face-plate falls off. There is no one inside the suit. Smoke emanates outside the empty javelin, without having a trace of his body’s existence inside his armor.
- The Freelancer: "Wait… he’s not here. The Monitor’s dead."
A surge of energy sprouts around the Cenotaph as a deep-voiced monstrous figurine emerges in front of the Freelancer
- The Monitor: "Heh. Not dead. Transcendent. One with the Anthem."
The Monitor has changed and become a titan-like giant with a glaive for a weapon. As this titanic Monitor lands under the arena under the Cenotaph, the Freelancer flies to witness the wonder. The Monitor lands on his knees while thrusting his glaive into the ground.
Defeat the Monitor
The Monitor Stands up and walks towards the Freelancer. Clearly something is amiss. The Monitor seems incomplete. The Freelancer fights the transcendent Monitor.
The Monitor tries to slash through the Freelancer several times using his fiery glaive, which is quickly evaded. The Monitor then summons meteors
- Faye: "Destroy those things… before they explode! Hurry!"
As the Freelancer destroys the fallen meteorites, the Monitor creates orbs of explosive fires. While the Freelancer fights the emblazed Monitor, they must evade all his fiery tactics.
- The Monitor: "Everything will burn."
While the Freelancer continues to damage the Monitor, something odd happens. The Monitor falters.
- The Monitor: "No! I’m not finished!"
The Monitor strikes the spear onto the ground to summon more meteors that crash to the ground. These meteorites are tougher and won’t be destroyed easily. The Freelancer must find cover or focus everything on these fiery explosive rocks. Failing to do so may cost them their life
- The Freelancer: "What happened?"
- Faye: "He’s part of the Cenotaph now… it’s… activated him elsewhere. Hurry."
The Monitor has vanished, for now. The Freelancer must find where he is and stop him before he tries something to worsen the situation. Fortunately, there’s a shaper door which automatically opens up, giving an opportunity for the Freelancer to look for the Monitor in a different area. But how did the door open? And more importantly, why? As the Freelancer flies through the door and above the lava trench the heat from the molten rocks is causing their flight boosters to heat-up. But something else, a hazy fume, is causing their javelin to corrode at the same time. The Freelancer finally reaches a new arena filled with a diffused liquid. The Monitor immediately activates into this chamber.
- The Monitor: "Still here? Good. You can witness the dawning of a new world."
The Monitor now splurges a green liquid onto the Freelancer through his hand. He also summons destructive and explosive green orbs which can easily knock the freelancer over
- The Freelancer: "What the—is he changing the Heart of rage?"
- Faye: "The storm… Cenotaph… and Monitor are all linked now."
- The Freelancer: "Hope my shields last through this acid."
The Monitor now forces Mordant Elementals into the chamber. These elementals can expel corrosive acid to cause heavy damage to anything. The Freelancer has to keep fighting the Monitor while staying away from these elementals. And to make matters worse, the diffused liquid on the ground is literally acid
- The Monitor: "Watch your step, Freelancer! I’ll wipe this world clean and start over."
The Freelancer continues to fight the Monitor, evading his acidic glaive’s swipes. After a short while, the Monitor falters again.
- The Monitor: "Damned pest! You’ll regret that!"
The Freelancer keeps fighting the Monitor all this while, but it happens again. The Monitor disappears again. Why is it happening?
- The Monitor: "Not yet! Damnit!"
The Monitor raises his arms after thrusting the spear into the ground. But nothing happens. Instead, he vanishes again.
- The Freelancer: "Haluk? Faye? Tell me he’s weakening."
- Faye: "The Cenotaph… its power is out of control."
- The Freelancer: "That… sounds bad."
- Faye: "The storm… is growing. Hurry."
The Freelancer flies back to the original arena by flying over the lava trench. While this happens, there is a barrage of lightning strikes. When the Freelancer returns to the first arena, the Monitor activates at its center. However, there are several glowing spherical fields spread across the arena. What kind of danger do these energy pockets pose? The Monitor’s glaive now glows purple.
- The Monitor: "Let’s finish this."
The Monitor throws the glaive, only for it to land near the Freelancer. He creates lightning which constantly ripples from random points on the ground. The Monitor also shoots lightning projectiles at the Freelancer which can knock a javelin down and zap it.
- The Freelancer: "Lightning is messing with my javelin. Sensors are going haywire."
The Monitor leaps over the Freelancer, an attack which is quickly evaded.
- Faye: "He’s electrifying… the ground. Watch out!"
The Freelancer enters the energy field and shoots at the Monitor when inside it, the Monitor somehow receives more damage. The Monitor falters, yet again.
- The Monitor: "No!"
The Monitor immediately vanishes and a moment later, activates back. This is the third time it’s happening. It is as if the Anthem doesn’t favor the Monitor. And by creating the energy fields, it is favoring the Freelancer. The Monitor summons destructive purple orbs that can cause damage to the javelin. The Monitor realizes he is failing.
- The Monitor: "I’ll take you down with me"
The Monitor disappears and activates at the center of the Arena. He thrusts the electrified glaive into the ground in a desperate attempt to bring the whole ruin down, but falls on one knee. He tries standing up and still wants to control the Anthem. He raises an arm but collapses. He is now near the Cenotaph relic, to which he had attached a device. As the Monitor crawls on the ground, his titan-like stature reduces—he begins to shrink. While forcing to get back up, he looks at his hands one last time after which a strider comes crashing down on him. This ends the Monitor’s wrath. The strider falls on its side. The rooftop door opens to reveal Haluk and Faye.
- Haluk: "Hey! Give us a hand!"
The Freelancer lands near the door and pulls it open
- The Freelancer: "Haluk, Faye, oh—what are you doing here? (Grunts.) Are you alright?"
Haluk is holding Faye. There is something wrong with her. Her eyes are glowing. The two come out of the Strider.
- Haluk: "Ha! Did you see that? Faye was connected to the Monitor, cypher to cypher. She knows what to do."
- The Freelancer: "How’s she doing?"
The three walk towards the Cenotaph.
- Haluk: "I don’t know not great."
Haluk’s stomach hurts. Faye and the Freelancer look at him.
- Faye: "I’m doing better than you."
- The Freelancer: "Haluk—"
- Haluk: "Never mind that."
- Faye: "The Anthem was interfering. I couldn’t reach you. I have to get to that machine."
- Haluk: "I got you, Faye. I got you. (Grunt.)"
They walk to the machine hooked to the Cenotaph which is releasing copious amount of energy.
- Faye: "No time to lose. I can—I can hear the Anthem."
- The Freelancer: "What do we do?"
Faye senses the seals around the machine connected to the Cenotaph.
- Faye: "Dominion seals. To get to the Cenotaph, I need to get closer to the Anthem. Like the Monitor did. (Exhales.)"
Faye touches the seals. Her body is raised by the enormous Shaper energy. She listens to the Anthem…
- Haluk: "Oh! (Grunts.) Go—while you can. You got this."
When the Freelancer gets the cue from Haluk, who was still holding Faye’s arm, they walk through the impenetrable barrier created by the machine. Faye was able to disable the machine for a moment because she knew what to do from connecting her mind with the Monitor’s. The Freelancer grabs the machine fixed to the Cenotaph and pulls it out. They drop the machine. The Freelancer also knows what happens to a Cypher when they are so close to the Anthem, and they cannot afford to lose another friend. The Freelancer reaches out to Faye. The Anthem has swum through her mind.
- Freelancer (Screams): "Faye! let go! Come back!"
- Faye: "It’s beautiful."
- Haluk (Screams): "Faye—Faye!"
The Shaper energy surges around Faye and concentrates around the Cenotaph. Faye collapses. Haluk kneels down under the sheer pressure. As the relic draws more and more energy into it, the Freelancer quickly shields their two friends from the mighty Shaper energy. The concentrated energy reaches a limit and then it implodes, unleashing a massive force all around. The Cenotaph is silenced for good.
- The Freelancer: "You okay?"
- Faye: "I heard it. I heard it and let it go."
- Haluk: "Faye, we did it. We did it! (Laughs.)"
The three laugh, but Haluk still has bloody hands and a pain in his stomach. Faye and the Freelancer come to his aid, helping him stand up.
- Haluk: "Easy—easy. So what’s next?"
- The Freelancer: "Nothing—you said one job."
- Haluk: "No, I didn’t."
- Faye: "You did. I was there. You were very clear. (Laughs.)"
- Haluk: "I mean, maybe I want to renegotiate. But more importantly, who’s gonna fix my strider?"
- The Freelancer: "Our strider. I think that’s what he meant."
- Faye: "Doubt it."
- Haluk: "Well, I’ll tell you what. You help me fix it, and we’ll talk. (Laughs.)"
The three friends walk away.
Post Expedition
Back at the Fort, a still wounded Haluk, Faye and Yarrow are having a chat by the fountain in the Fort Tarsis Courtyard. The Freelancer walks to them.
- Haluk: "(Exhales.) Hey!"
- Yarrow: "Hey, Freelancer!"
- The Freelancer: "Yarrow."
- Haluk: "So, what’s the word on the Dominion?"
- Yarrow: "Though the Monitor is dead, many still fight on. Talk to you later. Hear me?"
Yarrow pats the Freelancer and walks away. The Freelancer pats him back.
- The Freelancer: "I hear ya."
- Haluk: "Huh. Bastards are probably here to stay."
As Faye nods and agrees with Haluk, Tassyn walks in on them with her Sentinel bodyguard.
- Tassyn: "You came through. Fine work."
- Faye: "Of course we did."
- The Freelancer: "Never a doubt."
Tassyn looks at her sentinel who shrugs. Haluk gets up.
- Haluk: "Time for celebration. Oof, let’s all have a drink."
- Faye: "As long as we don’t talk about work."
- Haluk: "What me? Okay."
- Faye: "(Scoffs.) (Laughs.)"
Faye and Haluk walk away towards the Bar. Tassyn stops the Freelancer while she waits for Haluk and Faye to go away.
- Tassyn: "I just need a moment."
- Haluk: "Can I talk about my strider? Eh, I have plans…"
- Faye: "just give me five minutes to relax with no strider, no Anthem, no relics. No contracts."
- Haluk: "Ay yi yi."
- Tassyn: "There’s something you need to see."
The Freelancer is taken to a never-before-seen special room within the Fort Tarsis Apartments. As Tassyn and the Freelancer come by its door, the Sentinel guard opens the door for them. The two walk in to see something covered under a white sheet, but laid on a cot. A man in Freelancer yellow uniform walks past two Freelancers in a special javelin standing guards by the hidden object
- Tassyn: "I want you to meet Grandmaster Adams."
- Grandmaster Adams: "You entered Freemark. You silenced the Cenotaph."
- The Freelancer: "Yes. With help."
- Grandmaster Adams: "Right on. “Strong Alone, Stronger Together.” Hey, let me show you something."
As Adams and the Freelancer walk closer to the hidden object, one of the two Freelancers inside javelins, moves around.
- Grandmaster Adams: "(Sharp inhale.) We found this just inside the eastern border. It killed two of our team before we were able to put it down."
Adams hesitantly reveals the contents under the cloth. It was a corpse of a blue-faced creature. The creature, unlike fauna, wore clothes, almost as if it was sapient.
- Grandmaster Adams: "It had a map of the region on it."
Adams checks for the creature’s pulse by pressing his finger on its neck
- Tassyn: "Urgoth. You’ve heard of them."
- The Freelancer: "From stories, paintings… but they’re long gone from Bastion."
Adams sits by the Urgoth corpse.
- Grandmaster Adams: "Uh, this could either be a single scout, or the beginning of something much, much bigger."
- Tassyn: "Corvus is worried that the death of the Monitor, while vital, has left us vulnerable in places we never even considered."
- Grandmaster Adams: "And we’re reaching out to you, because by all accounts, you’re something special."
Adams stands up and smiles.
- Grandmaster Adams: "But can you keep quiet about this? We don’t want to freak people out."
- The Freelancer: "Sure."
- Grandmaster Adams: "Good."
- Tassyn: "We’ll be in touch."
As Tassyn nods and looks at Adams, the Freelancer walks away.
