While Brin is by her plants thinking about what she could have done better, the Freelancer goes to speak with her. She may have found a way to track down the last missing Sentinel, or at least that Sentinel’s javelin.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like
for the best view. - Scars infantry can be easily tackled with any combat equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
- For Scar Scouts and hunters, it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage.
- Scar Destroyers' seeker mines are filled with acid which can reduce resistance of the javelin. They can deploy them infinite times. One mine may be tolerable, but several mines can automatically target a javelin and bring it down. Whenever a Destroyer is seen, defeat it quickly with any equipment.
- Scar Hunters can do a lot of damage. They must be a priority when tackling enemies. Once their shields are stripped, freeze them using ice or render them flightless with fire.
- Scar Enforcers have armored health. They don’t do much damage. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them. Same goes for turrets.
- To fight Damaris the Escari, see the strategy section on Scar Tank. Note that Damaris can also summon other Scars.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Legendary Enforcers and Hunters show up in this mission.
- This mission makes use of a Hidden Place called Scar Bunker which only appears when certain Scar Hives are destroyed in certain locations.
- The text pop up inside the cage is about prisoner’s meal reads:
- Shockingly unspoiled.
- The exit to the Scar Bunker is simply called “Surface” instead of the actual location of Skystone Pass. This is because Scar Bunkers can actually form under Scar Hives randomly in several Scar related Freeplay events allacross Northern Bastion, particularly around the Garrison at Velathra.
- The Freelancer can enter and exit the Scar Bunker any number of times. This can be useful if there is an interest to read Cortex entries to enjoy and understand Anthem’s lore.
- Damaris the Escari is one of the three Escari that can be encountered throughout the missions of Anthem. The other two are Voraxes the Swarming and Occixus the Countless. Scelos doesn’t count as it transcends to become a Luminary.
- Rust Reaver also doesn’t count as it only is inside a Scar Tank in Legendary: Lost Arcanist.
- Scelos also doesn't count as it ascends to become a Luminary (Echelon) by the time it is encountered.
- Damaris and Occixus are the only two know Escari that have been shown to actually speak, rather than make Escari noises like other Escaris or Luminaries.
- Damaris has a feminine voice. However, it is referred to using a neuter pronoun—it.
- From what Damaris the Escari says, it is implied that it wanted to ascend to become a Luminary.
- Since Damaris blurts out its plans without even considering the consequences, it is not very smart for an Escari.
- This is the first time it is explicitly states that Scars can also eat metal, flesh, and machines. Them eating flesh will again come into picture when trying to stop Scelos.
- Brin uses another one of the sayings used in Bastion—Great green grabbits.
- There is still no post-mission debriefing with Brin after this mission.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Research and Rescue (Mission):
Briefing
The Freelancer checks in on Brin at her usual post.
- The Freelancer: "Hi, Brin. How are you holding up?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer. Good. You remember the sixth missing Sentinel? The one we couldn’t find in the mines? I’ve discovered a weak signal. Very weak, but it could be him."
- The Freelancer: "I’ll track him down for you."
- Sentinel Brin: "With earlier losses, we’re shorthanded, and—oh. Thank you. The Sentinels appreciate… I mean, I appreciate it."

In Expedition
The Freelancer comes out of their strider in the Double Cross.
Travel to Signal Source
- Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer. Hi. Are you ready?"
- The Freelancer: "Always. Where am I headed?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Sentinel Andrin is the lancer missing from that scar mine. If I’ve found his signal… it’s weak, but it’s there."
- The Freelancer: "I’ll hunt it down."
The Freelancer flies to the Skystone Pass which is now occupied by Scars.
- The Freelancer: "Brin, this is the old strider port. It’s overrun by Scars."
- Sentinel Brin: "Now that you’re closer, I can use your javelin to better triangulate Andrin’s position. Got it! Head into the compound–the signal is stronger there."
- The Freelancer: "Won’t be that easy. The coumpound has heavy defenses."
- Sentinel Brin: "Then I guess you’ve got to get through them."
- The Freelancer: "Working on it."
Destroy Scar Defenses
The Freelancer enters the Scar-modified ruins of Skystone to see a large swarm of scars. The Freelancer fights through their defenses. When all turrets and gated scars are defeated, Scar Hives begin to show up.
- The Freelancer: "Hives everywhere."
- Sentinel Brin: "Any sign of Andrin?"
- The Freelancer: "Nothing yet."
- Sentinel Brin: "I don’t—you should be right on top of him."
- The Freelancer: "They must be hiding him."
- Sentinel Brin: "Take out those hives."
Destroy Scar Hives
The Freelancer must destroy 4 Scar hives while dealing with the Scars that have been emerging out of these hives. At this point Legendary Enemies can show up. When all 4 hives are destroyed,
- Sentinel Brin: "That’s the last hive. Now for the Scars."
Defeat Scars
The Freelancer defeats all the remaining Scar enemies. When all scars are defeated,
- Sentinel Brin: "That’s the last of them. And… a hatch? Is that where they’re keeping Andrin?"
- The Freelancer: "As good a lead as any."
Enter Scar Tunnels
The Freelancer enters the Hidden Place that is the Scar Bunker.
Search for the Sentinel
The Freelancer traverses through Scar Bunker
- Sentinel Brin: "Strongest readings yet. Andrin’s got to be in here."
- The Freelancer: "This many scars must be guarding something."
- Sentinel Brin: "I see Andrin! And a lot of Scars."
- The Freelancer: "I’ll clear them out."
Free Sentinel Cal Andrin
Andrin’s javelin has been downed by the Scars. The Freelancer must first take care of the Scar problems before making contact with Sentinel Andrin.
Defeat Scars
There are Scars keeping guard on Andrin’s cage. The cage is locked, and a key must be found. The Freelancer keeps defeating all the enemies.
- Sentinel Brin: "One of the Scars dropped a key. It must be for the cage. Can you grab it?"
Pick Up Key
The Freelancer picks up the key on the ground.
- The Freelancer: "Got the key."
- Sentinel Brin: "Good. Now get rid of the Scars and free Andrin."
Defeat Scars
The Freelancer defeats all remaining Scars and also the new gated in Scars.
- Sentinel Brin: "Good—the Scars are gone. Now get Andrin."
Open Cage
The Freelances uses the key to open Andrin’s cage by interacting with the lock. When the lock opens the door,
There is a text pop on the chair behind the downed javelin inside the cage.
- Sentinel Brin: "Sentinels are on their way to pick Andrin up, Freelancer."
- Sentinel Cal Andrin: "Escari’s still out there. You got to stop it now…"
- The Freelancer: "I will, Andrin. Help is on the way."
Locate the Escari
The freelancer must locate the Escari about whom Andin gave clues.
Exit Scar tunnels
The Freelancer come out of the tunnels the same way they entered back into Skystone Pass.
- The Freelancer: "Brin, can you track that Escari?"
- Sentinel Brin: "There is a strange energy signal near you."
- The Freelancer: "Let’s get this thing."
- Sentinel Brin: "The last thing we need is a chatty Scar leader with plans for the fort."
Follow Escari Signal
The cypher working with Brin creates Cypher Projected Signal Markers for the Freelancer to find the location of the Escari. As the Freelancer flies into Dark Canopy,
- The Freelancer: "Andrin said the Escari wanted to know the fort’s defenses. What’s its long game?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Ask it."
- The Freelancer: "Are you serious?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Sure. “Hello, Bug Lord. I’d like to know your evil plan.” Then kill it."
- The Freelancer: "Uh-huh."
When the Freelancer finally reaches Abyssal Loch,
- Sentinel Brin: "That’s it—the Escari!"
Thwart the Escari's Plans
An Escari by the name of Damaris is waiting for the Freelancer.
- Damaris the Escari: "What fresh corpse follows me?"
- The Freelancer: "I think it sees me."
Defeat the Escari
As each pip of Damaris’ health pool is depleted, it begins to explain its plans.
- Damaris the Escari: "It comes from the metal walls. It blankets itself in the fort!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Ask what it wants! Try the plan!"
- The Freelancer: "What? Fine. Tell us what you want, Escari!"
- Damaris the Escari: "The Arcanists fumble at Shaper relics. Damaris the Escari will make them work. Shapers energy will gather. Swarms will feed. Metal, flesh, machines. Damaris will strip your fort’s bones!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Great green grabbits, it’s actually telling us the plan."
As Damaris the Escari’s health is depleted halfway,
- The Freelancer: "You’re not looking too good, Escari."
- Damaris the Escari: "We will triumph! All Escari will bow to the swarm that strips your den."
- The Freelancer: "You’ll need more than a few skorpions from a souped-up relic to defeat Fort Tarsis."
- Damaris the Escari: "An ancient relic, Arcanist machinery, will birth a creature so massive your home-hive will crumble!"
When Damaris the Escari is defeated, its Scar Tank is destroyed and it begins to crumble.
- Damaris the Escari: "We disperse. But the lancer is too late."
- Sentinel Brin: "The Escari might be down, but the relic it was ranting about…"
- The Freelancer: "We’ll find it. Together."
- Sentinel Brin: "Good. And good work."
- Sentinel Brin: "Meet me back at the fort. We’ll figure out what to do next."

The Freelancer returns to the Fort.
