Ranger Mark One sometimes stylized as Ranger MKI is the first model of the Ranger series of Javelins. They are still in use even though newer and improved models have come out of Heliost.

Narrative[]

Ranger MKI is the precursor to all Ranger type javelins. Although it is old, it is not as primitive as people think of it. The size of this javelin is bulkier than the Ranger Mark Two, but the Mark One is slightly lacking in capabilities when compared to its upgrade. These javelins, however, are fully capable of handling tough enemies.

Ranger Mark One was developed by the Engineers and Arcanists of Bastion in Heliost after the nation was formed when the Legion of Dawn disbanded, between 0 LV and 413 LV. It was developed because the heavier Colossus-like older javelins were slow and lacked maneuverability.

Ranger MKI is used by Sentinels, especially inside walled cities and those doing patrolling outside the fort. Ranger Mark One javelin is showcased in the radio drama called the Crimson Lancer.

Other Variants[]

Combat[]

Ranger MKI has access to the following Damage Types:

  • Acid
  • Fire
  • Ice
  • Impact
  • Lightning

Ranger MKI javelins can use a wrist launcher to deploy a single-target missile. They can toss a grenade that can target enemies in a small area. They also use a mace to deal damage to their enemies in melee range.

This javelin can also equip hand-held guns that include Assault Rifle, Light Machine Gun, Marksman Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper Rifle, Heavy Pistol, and Machine Pistol. The two most common weapons used by the lancers using Ranger Mark One are Defender rifle and Havoc LMG.

Ranger MKI doesn’t have the missile pod on its shoulder, so it cannot deploy Micro Missiles. That and insufficient armor and shields are two drawbacks of this javelin.

Style[]

Ranger MKIs are Rangers with limited capability. Users of these javelins no one usually venture out in the wild because of lack of functions.

  • Focus: Attack on Sight
  • Offense Style: Single-target
  • Evasive Maneuver: None
  • Jump Type: Boosted Jump
  • Flight: Thruster Assisted
  • Flight Evasive Maneuver: None
  • Hover Time: Unknown
  • Action Speed: Slow
  • Armor: Moderately Armored
  • Shields: Low Kinetic Shields

Customization[]

Ranger MKIs are almost exclusively used by Sentinels. The most common colors painted on this javelin are white and blue. Although, there are variations among the shades of blue used, depending on the rank and location of the pilot.

There is a lack of evidence that support Sentinels being able to customize their suits. There are a handful of decals used in different situations. The Sentinels inside the walls do not even have this option, presumable to show authority.

Outside the walls of Fort Tarsis, the Ranger Mark One javelins used by the Sentinels have additional colors such as turquoise and yellow and different vinyls depending on the Sentinel’s rank and location.

Trivia[]

  • Contrary to what is shown in game during combat, Ranger MKI are very useful.
  • It is a common misconception that Ranger Mark One cannot fly. However, they can, but likely have heavy restriction on how and when to use them.
  • Sentinels are the only known faction to currently use Ranger Mark One. Sentinels also use Ranger Mark Two when outside the walls.
  • The Ranger Mark One’s cosmetic armor pack is available to the Freelancer as the Guardian Armor Pack to be used on their Ranger javelin.
