Tassyn has tasked the Freelancer to help her Sentinel Agent Ryssa Brin, Arcanist Agent Matthias Sumner, and Freelancer Agent Yarrow as they require assistance. Once the Freelancer has acquainted themselves with these Agents, they must perform a simple contract for them to be on Tassyn and Corvus' good side.

Here, Brin wants to find out about some Arcanist equipment and whether they are working adequately to gather data from the researchers.

Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like for the best view.
  • Scars infantry can be easily tackled with any combat equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
  • For Scar Scouts and hunters, it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage.
  • Scar Hunters can do a lot of damage They must be a priority when tackling enemies. Once their shields are stripped, freeze them using ice or render them flightless with fire.
  • Scar Enforcers have armored health. They don’t do much damage. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them.
  • Skorpions can be defeated with any type of damage. Workers are dangerous because they can explode on their own or when defeated, and weaken the javelin armor. When a worker begins to explode its sac, use evade to escape or simply fly away.

Check Cortex Entry: Preventative Precautions for More Information

Sentinel Brin has heard about an unusual level of Scar activity at an Arcanist base. Investigate for her.

Outcome: You've recovered the missing Arcanist equipment from the Scars. Strangely, the Scars were trying to hook up the Arcanists' machines to a Shaper relic. Brin has noted this anomalous Scar behavior in her report.

  3. Cautious Cooperation
  4. A Simple Job

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • Interestingly, the cypher for this mission is Owen. Although he is a cypher who works for the Freelancer faction, this is the one of the few times we hear from him outside of the Critical Objectives or Freeplay as a mission cypher for a Sentinel mission.
  • The text pop up near a tree stump by the camp in the Garrison at Velathra that reads:
    • Tiny stab-marks nock the tree. Possibly by a bored Scar.
  • There is a text pop up inside the hollow while looking for the relic fragments that says:
    • A random assortment of Arcanist equipment. Scars aren’t picky.
  • Although Scars are controlled by a hive mind through an Escari, the text pop up indicates that Scars can have personality.
  • The Hidden Place used in this mission is called the Hollow.
  • The Hollow is a hidden place that usually has Outlaws in it. But at his point in the story, this enemy faction hasn’t made an appearance yet, so it is occupied by Scars instead.
  • It is difficult to see the machinery being hooked to the relic, but it is just a little away from it on either side. It looks like several spheres inter-connected with rods.
  • The text popup after silencing the relic that reads:
    • Scars modified this relic. Purpose unknown.
  • There is no post mission conversation with Brin, unlike Matthias or Yarrow, showing how much the Sentinels prefer to avoid Freelancers.

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Preventative Precautions (Mission):

Briefing

Brin waits for the Freelancer by her plants and her office.

  • Sentinel Brin: "Hi! Freelancer. Hello."
  • Freelancer: "Sentinel. Good to see you again."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Is it?"
  • Freelancer: "It is?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "I don’t associate much with Freelancers."
  • Freelancer: "Okay…"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Or anyone not a Sentinel, really."
  • Freelancer: "Well, I hope you don’t regret getting to know one of us."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Yes, me too!"

Brin laughs goofily.

  • Freelancer: "Okay… can I help you with something…?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Yes! Well. Quietly. I don’t technically have permission from my superiors to be contracting you. But there’s been an unusual amount of Scar activity around a nearby Arcanist base. Whatever it is, it could be dangerous if Scars get hold of it."
  • Freelancer: "Agreed. I’ll check it out for you."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Good. I mean… good luck, Freelancer."
  • Freelancer: "Right. No problem."

Investigate Scar Presence at Arcanist Base

The Freelancer prepares for the expedition.

Launch Expedition

The Freelancer ventures outside the walls.

In Expedition

The Freelancer is outside the fort gates.

Travel to Base

The Freelancer flies to First Refuge.

  • Owen: "Patching in Sentinel Brin."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer! Hello again. Sentinel Brin, here. Hi."
  • Freelancer: "Hi, again, Sentinel. How are you?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Fine, fine. The Arcanist base isn’t far from your location. Keep an eye out for Scars."
  • Freelancer: "Will do. Since this is our first mission, maybe we should talk, get to know each other?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Oh, let’s not. I’ll let you know when you’re close to the base."
  • Freelancer: "All right."

The Freelancer flies to the coordinates given by Brin

  • Sentinel Brin: "You made it. Arcanist base just ahead, Freelancer."
  • Freelancer: "On it."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Completely overrun by Scars. I had a feeling."

Defeat Scars

Several Scars have infiltrated the camp

  • Freelancer: "The Arcanists?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "I’m getting a signal from a safehouse nearby. I’ll send a team to collect them. Now take care of these Scars. Please."
  • Freelancer: "Sure thing."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Any insight into what the Scars are doing here?"
  • Freelancer: "The base is ransacked. Machinery torn out all over."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Interesting. Scars don’t typically care about arcanist equipment. I wonder what they were exactly studying here."
  • Freelancer: "Can we do this later?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Oh, right, right."

The Freelancer fights the swarm of Scars and defeats them all.

  • Sentinel Brin: "Well, we won’t have to kill those scars on the fort walls later"
  • Freelancer: "You’re welcome. Scars must have taken whatever the Arcanists were studying."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Probably—they’re such pests. We’ve seen scars gather in an area not far from you. Check them"
  • Freelancer: "You got it."

Search for Missing Arcanist Machinery

The Freelancer looks around for Arcanist Machenery.

Travel to Scar Camp

The Freelancer flies to the Scar Camp in The Garrison at Velathra.

  • Freelancer: "This is more Scar activity than I’ve seen in a long time."
  • Sentinel Brin: " And I thought no one else had noticed."
  • Freelancer: "They’re everywhere lately."
  • Sentinel Brin: "They’re not even people. Just gross… monster… things ruining stuff wherever they go!"
  • Freelancer: "Tell me how you really feel, Brin."

The Freelancer finds the Scar camp in The Garrison at Velathra district.

  • Sentinel Brin: "Freelancer, this is where the Scars have been gathering."
  • Freelancer: "Got it. I’ll look around for our missing Arcanist machinery. And for whatever else they might have been working on."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Watch out for Scars while you’re at it."

Salvage Searched

The Freelancer fight Scars while searching for salvages. When the first is examined

  • Freelancer: "Just broken Shaper bits. Nothing from the Arcanists."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Keep looking."

When the second is examined

  • Sentinel Brin: "It’s got to be around somewhere."

When the final salvage is examined

  • Freelancer: "Brin, there’s no Arcanist equipment here, either."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Okay. Well, if you don’t see anything… Arcanist-y, they’ve probably got it hidden."
  • Freelancer: "So, I should look for some kind of Scar shed?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Uh… sure. How about a “Scar cave” instead of a “Scar shed”?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "How about a Scar cave instead of a Scar shed?"
  • Freelancer: "I can work with that."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Well, there’s one near you. Good place to hide stolen machinery."
  • Freelancer: "I’ll find it and head in."

Enter Scar Cave

The Freelancer flies to the Scar cave within The Hollow.

Locate Missing Machinery

The Freelancer enters The Hollow

  • Sentinel Brin: "Well, if the Scars are hiding a stockpile, it’d be somewhere creepy like this…"
  • Freelancer: "Any advice?"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Eliminate them and find it."
  • Freelancer: "Blunt but fair."

Defeat Scars

The Freelancer fights Scars while looking for the machinery, and defeats them all

  • Freelancer: "Got rid of all the Scars."
  • Sentinel Brin: "We’re not done yet."

Locate Missing Machinery

The Freelancer ventures deep inside the Hollow to search for the machinery

Secure Shaper Relic

The Shaper relic is hooked to the Arcanist Machinery.

Defeat Scars

There are Scars everywhere along with skorpion being summoned by the relic.

  • Freelancer: "They’ve got that stolen Arcanist machinery hooked up to a Shaper Artifact."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Looks bad. Stop them before it goes volatile."

While the combat continues, the relic explodes, scattering its fragments

  • Sentinel Brin: "What happened?"
  • Freelancer: "The artifact—it makes skorpions."
  • Sentinel Brin: "You should silence it probably."

Fragments Recovered

The Freelancer searches for relic fragments while fighting scars and skorpions. When the first fragment is picked,

  • Freelancer: "Got one!"
  • Sentinel Brin: "Bring it back."

When the fragment is inserted into the relic,

  • Sentinel Brin: "A fragment back.Good!"

When the second fragment is found,

  • Freelancer: "Found a piece."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Nice work. Return it."

When it is inserted,

  • Sentinel Brin: "That’s a fragment back!"

When the final fragment is found,

  • Freelancer: "Got a fragment."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Good reassemble it!"

When the final fragment is inserted, the relic pulls back any creature it created.

  • Sentinel Brin: "Thank the shiny shield of General Tarsis."
  • Freelancer: "Were those Scars deliberately trying to force a shaper artifact to create skorpions."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Maybe? That’s so strange—they normally just scavenge. I’ll put it in my report. And… thank you, Freelancer. This was a huge help to the Sentinels, and to the Fort."
  • Freelancer: "Nice working with you too."
  • Sentinel Brin: "Yes, well. Maybe we’ll work together again sometime… maybe."
  • Freelancer: "See you around, Brin."

Post Expedition

The Freelancer then returns to Fort Tarsis.
