...Once exiled, they must attempt to survive outside city walls without armor or weapons... |
Outlaw Shotgunners are fully armored moderate damage dealing enemies. They are found in nearly every encounter with outlaws.
Etymology and Anatomy
Shotgunners get their name from the portmanteau of Shotgun (A short range weapon that uses slugs as ammo) and Gunner (One who operates guns). They are armored outlaws. They wear a helmet and an army green outfit to make them camouflaged in lush green environments. However, their helmets have a fluorescent yellow visor. It isn’t as large as the Outlaw Gunner or the foot soldier Outlaw, but still fairly visible.
They equip knee and elbow guards. They use a shotgun that does low damage but doesn’t run out of ammo.
Narrative Involvement
Outlaw Shotgunners can be found in groups, surrounding and harassing their targets with close range attack. Outlaw Shotgunners appear in every outlaw related combat. They are usually encountered during the middle of the battle.
There haven’t been significant number of important Outlaw Shotgunners in the whole story. They come and go as unnamed foes, except in one specific situation. However, even over there, the Shotgunner behaves like any other Outlaw Shotgunner.

Behavior and Abilities
Outlaw Shotgunners like to remain close to their foes, where their weapon can do maximum damage. They are aggressive and can flush out hiding foes. They have the following abilities:
- Shotgun: Outlaw Shotgunner use shotguns to deal low but persistent damage.
Hidden Attributes
Outlaw Shotgunners have one hidden attribute:
- Slugless Shotgun: Outlaw Shotgunners’ shotguns do not use ammo and can fire unlimited shots. But the weapon has a wind-up time between shot.
Strategy
Outlaw Shotgunner Preparing to Fire
Outlaw Shotgunners prefer being close to javelins to deal maximum damage. Although it is quite low, it can quickly become a nuisance if there ae enough of these armored outlaws. They do not reload their weapons as it has infinite magazine. But there is a short time gap between two successive fire of rounds.
Because these Shotgunners are armored, the best way to deal with them is to use anti-armor damage dealing weapons and gears: fire, acid, and armor buster. The easiest way to take them down is through anti-armor damage between their wind-up time.
Since they are not shielded, it is also possible to freeze them and do damage to their weak point, which would be their head.
Doing damage to or defeating the Outlaw Shotgunners can make them drop ammo and repair packs. If health or ammo is low, collect these resupplies.
Every Named Outlaw Shotgunner
There has been only one known occasion where a named Outlaw Shotgunner has appeared. There have also been two instances of a Legendary type:
- Baker during the mission Impostor (Standard/Elite/Legendary)
- Legendary Outlaw Shotgunner during the missions Tell Me Maur and Secrets of the Auspex
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- The fluorescent yellow marking on an Outlaw Shotgunner’s visor is actually the faction logo of the Outlaws.
- Outlaw Shotgunners have 4 white stripes on their left arm.
- The number of pips in the health/armor bar do not represent the total value. This means, two types can have same number of pips, but the stronger type (legendary or elite) will have a significantly higher health than their weaker counterparts.
- The ability names are taken from the Anthem Prima Guide and datamined files. They may have been slightly modified to avoid confusion with other in-game names.
