Looks like an Elementalist is itching for a fight! |
Outlaw Elementalists are outlaws that pilot a modified Valkyrie javelin and have more health.
Etymology and Anatomy
The Outlaw Elementalist get the name from them being able to use the Elements (powers of nature such as fire, ice, lightning) to do damage to their foes.
Elementalist looks like a standard Valkyrie: a javelin suit with seals on the right arm and a cape on its back. Elemental Valkyrie also becomes engulfed in orange/blue/purple-colored kinetic shield when foes approach depending on the Elemental Swap.
When not shielded, the javelin is colored white and gold, with gold metallic plating on several of its parts.
Narrative Involvement
Outlaw Elementalists are found towards the end of a battle with the outlaws. They are usually the target to be defeated or the boss of the outlaw gang currently in the skirmish.
Throughout the main story of the Freelancer trying to silence the Heart of Rage, there hasn’t been a single encounter with an Outlaw Elementalists. However, they are constantly found during side stories, especially the mission provided by the Matthias trio and the “non-critical” critical-path-mission given by Dax feature them prominently.

Behavior and Abilities
Outlaw Elementalists have much higher health and damage potential than their Dominion Elementalist counterparts. They can easily flush out their foes from taking cover and prefer to hover.
Outlaw Elementalists have the following abilities:
- Elemental Projectiles: The Elementalists shoots slow moving projectiles that do fire/ice/lightning damage. (This ability is defunct since update 1.3.0)
- Elemental Beam Projectiles: The Elementalists shoots rapid moving projectiles of fire/ice/lightning depending on the elemental swap that nearly resemble a beam of that respective element. (This ability is replaced Elemental Projectiles since update 1.3.0)
- Elemental Explosion: The Elementalists creates a field of Elemental beneath an foe to create an explosion that does high Elemental blast damage.
Hidden Attributes
Outlaw Elementalists has two hidden attributes:
- Infinite Hovering: Outlaw Elementalists can hover indefinitely as long as they are shielded.
- Elemental Swap: Outlaw Elementalists can swap between fire, ice, and lightning elements after a set period of time during combat.
- Elemental Resistant Shields: Outlaw Elementalist’s shields are resistant to the type of swapped element.
Strategy
Outlaw Elementalists are excellent at flushing the javelins taking cover. But they cannot do damage unless they are hovering.
Overview
Since they can technically hover indefinitely, they have the height advantage to spot foes and start shooting projectiles at the nearest foe within their line of sight. Their kinetic shield is resistant to Elemental, and sometimes even immune. Once unshielded, they become vulnerable to weak point damage when their head is targeted.
Depending upon the type of shield swapped, it may become resistant or weak to other type of damages. Look at Dominion Ash Valkyrie, Dominion Frost Valkyrie, and Dominion Storm Valkyrie for fire, ice, and lightning shields respectively. Essentially, an Elementalist is a combination of the three Valkyrie javelins that can swap between the three types.
Doing damage to or defeating the Elementalist can make it drop ammo and repair packs. If health or ammo is low, collect these resupplies.

Combat
When the Elementalist notices foes, it starts shooting its Elemental Projectiles are at a javelin. If the javelin is weak, then it is a cue to take cover.
If hiding behind walls for cover, care must be to not let the Elementalist to use its Elemental Explosion. There is a short duration between the creation of the Elemental field on the surface beneath the javelin (where no damage will be done) and the actual explosion itself. If the field is seen, it is a cue to go to a different place. Since Elementalists cannot continuously use Elemental Explosion, they will follow up with Elemental Beam Projectiles.
To tackle the flushing abilities of Elementalists, it is best to focus on stripping the kinetic shields first—in this case,
shield breaker attacks work very well, but impact damage also help.
fire,
ice, and
lightning will work depending on the type of the elemental kinetic shields, to which the Elementalist switches.
When the shields are stripped away, the Elementalist’s suit is exposed. The Elementalist may still attack, and it will take a few seconds before the shield regenerates, but this is the best time to take it down.
Note: Burning, freezing, or using force-based abilities will knock the unshielded Elementalists down to the ground, making them unable to attack.
Every Named Outlaw Elementalist
There have been only few known occasions where a named Outlaw Elementalist has been shown:
- Talon
- Fire-Faced Kerns
- Agent of the Symposium
- Several Mysterious Figures during the mission Secrets of the Auspex
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- There has been only one instance of an Outlaw Elementalist being shown up close: Talon, during the mission Dear Diary’s cut scene at the end.
- It is unknown how the Outlaws got their hands on this Valkyrie-type javelin. What’s more surprising is that it is more powerful than the original Dominion Counterpart.
- The number of pips in the health/armor bar do not represent the total value. This means, two types can have same number of pips, but the stronger type (legendary or elite) will have a significantly higher health than their weaker counterparts.
- The ability names are taken from the Anthem Prima Guide and datamined files. They may have been slightly modified to avoid confusion with other in-game names.
