...Once exiled, they must attempt to survive outside city walls without armor or weapons... |
Outlaws are the lowest of combatants among the Outlaw Faction.
Etymology and Anatomy
Outlaw is a catch-all term for criminals, mercenaries, or bandits that have been outcast by the society. The lowest outlaw “soldiers” are so low that they do not even have a special term. They are considered cannon fodder by the outlaw bosses.
Outlaws are bipedal humans that wear an army green outfit and a helmet. They equip knee and elbow guards. The army green helps them in camouflaging in lush green environments. But, their helmet’s visor is fluorescent yellow, making it easy for their foes to identify them and even fire a head shot!
Narrative Involvement
Outlaws are found everywhere in Bastion. These people are outcast from walled cities, so they have to find shelter outside the walls in the dangers of the wild. But outlaws find each other and form or join gangs. But outlaws do not care for other outlaws. They only look for their own benefit.
Outlaws, the foot soldiers, are the first foes to come out during any outlaw-related combat. They are also usually the first ones to be defeated because of their low health pool and lack of any special hidden attributes.

Behavior and Abilities
An Outlaw uses Grenade
Outlaws have the following abilities:
- Submachine Gun: Outlaws use a rapid firing Submachine Gun.
- Cover-flushing Grenade: Outlaws throw a Grenade that can draw their foes out of cover and do a low impact blast damage.
Hidden Attributes
Outlaws have one hidden ability:
- Boosted Jump: Outlaws can jump to higher surfaces using the hidden boosters attached to their boots.
Strategy
- Special Weakness: None
- Special Resistance: None
Outlaws can reach higher ground using boosters on their back and then continue doing their attacks. Outlaws’ weak points are their heads, especially the brightly colored visors.
Since Outlaws use a rapid firing Submachine Gun that does a low damage, tackling them head on with melee, blast damages, or guns is very effective. Their grenade is used to flush their foes out of cover. So, it is advantageous to actually be closer to an outlaw than at a distance.
Doing damage to or defeating the foot soldier Outlaws can make them drop ammo and repair packs. If health or ammo is low, collect these resupplies.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Head-shotting an outlaw will treat the player with a bright fluorescent yellow burst.
- Outlaws have only 2 white stripes on their left arm.
- Outlaw Submachine guns are similar to Machine Pistols used by Freelancers.
- A group of outlaws is sometimes referred to as a pack or a gaggle in the game.
- The ability names are taken from the Anthem Prima Guide and datamined files. They may have been slightly modified to avoid confusion with other in-game names.
