Night Vine is a hostile type flora that could possibly do damage to living and non-living things on Coda. It may even do possibly damage to javelins in its vicinity. Contact with this dangerous plant-life can be lethal to living organisms. Humans dealing with Night Vine must handle it with care. Night Vine can be found growing in open spaces.
Etymology and Anatomy
Night Vines get their name from “Night” (night time) and “vine” (climbing plants). Nightvines only become visible at night times!
They are long vines that hand from the top of a wide variety of objects, including roofs of caves, tall trees etc. They produce a pale blue light at night times.
Narrative Involvement
Night Vines are found everywhere in Northern Bastion. The Freelancer can encounter them hanging from the roofs of caves and the “branches” of Eddian Trees.
Some time ago, before the fall of Velathra, an Arcanist, who is simply referred to as Maris' Mentor was trapped underground from a cave-in. The only source of comfort to this mentor was the light coming from Night Vines that was swallowed along with them, even though it nearly killed Maris.

The water keeps rising and I have scrambled up to the highest point, closer to the Shaper Ruin, yet I worry that Maris will not be able to find me. I hope she is safe. There have not been any tremors, but what if she was crushed by falling rock? Velathra is not far, but there are so many dangers in this unfinished world... wolven or ursix... Maris is too young to meet her fate. Indeed... though she is a student, I realize I have come to regard her as my own child. The mentors always warn of such affection, that attachment to students will only lead to heartbreak. But what is life without caring? I do not regret my attachment, mentors be damned. |

Behavior and Abilities
The Night Vine is a graceful, swaying plant that can cut a person to shreds. Fortunately, people don’t go near them, and they can’t cut something as strong as a javelin's armor. However, they can produce shocks that could electrify a javelin and cause it to malfunction.
Night Vines seem to disappear in the presence of sunlight. They appear at dusk. They can only zap objects at night when they are glowing.

- Shockbriars can release electric shocks on contact.
- Bioluminescence
- These plants can naturally produce a comforting light.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- There is no known vine that glows in the dark. However, Night Vines may be based on Glowworm larvae (Arachnocampa luminosa).
- Hovering in the middle of a Night Vine cluster will induce an Electrocuted Status on the javelin. If done at the precise moment of the transition between day and night, the electrocution stops immediately at the juncture!
