Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough after the Cortex Entry section for documentation.
  • Avoid venturing too much into Freeplay because the map is massive, especially during the first time.
  • Ember can be randomly found in Chimeric Plants, Chimeric Minerals, Treasure Chests, or Salvage goods at random as a by-product. Several tries might be needed before ember is obtained.
  • Random Freeplay activities, including World Encounters, World Events, Conjunctions, Time Trials and more, may spawn at any given time. It is best to ignore these after getting 3 ember pieces, if completing the story is of focus.
  • There are no waypoint markers, so if any of these icons show up on any items, Chimeric Plants Icon or Chimeric Minerals Icon or Link=Salvage or Loot Chest, it is suggested to simply harvest them or destroy them to obtain resources.
  • If a second pilot is started, the Freelancer already may have embers with them. So, they don’t have to visit Freeplay, and instead simply speak with Prospero. Harvesting additional embers in not needed if 3 are already available.
  • It is also possible that embers were harvested during the mission Early Warnings. If that's the case, then they will be included in the count for the 3 ember requirements.

Prospero needs ember to relight the Forge so it can be used to craft upgrades for your javelin. You'll need to search outside the walls of Fort Tarsis to find pieces of ember to bring back for him.

Outcome: You found enough ember for Prospero, enabling him to relight the Forge. Additional crafting options are now available for upgrading your javelin.

Briefing

Visit Bazar and Meet with Prospero

After finishing the conversation with Tassyn, Yarrow, and Matthias, the Freelancer can browse around the Fort Tarsis Market.

Speak with Prospero

An unknown man is waiting for the Freelancer to approach him.

  • Prospero: "Hey there. I figured you’d make your way to me soon enough. You’re the new Freelancer I’ve been hearing about."
  • Freelancer: "Only the good parts."
  • Prospero: "(Chuckles.) Oh, it’s all good. The fact that anybody’s talking about a Freelancer is even better. Name’s Prospero. I’m betting you’re the one I’ve been waiting for."
  • Freelancer: "Yeah? Why’s that?"
  • Prospero: "You understand being a Freelancer is more than just a job, it’s about pride. Pride in doing something well, pride in your javelin."
  • Freelancer: "Hasn’t been much of that lately."
  • Prospero: "Intolerable. Who wants to charge into a fight looking plain and simple? What kind of a statement does that make? Not when you could fly like steel thunder come to life. A fistful of lightning in one hand and a hailstorm of pain in the other."
  • Freelancer: "That’s colorful."
  • Prospero: "It’s what I do. When lancers want to make a statement, they buy something special for their javelin, maybe custom decals or body work. I’m the guy they come to. Or used to. Hasn’t been any demand. The forge can’t even build anything these days. I’m hoping you can change that."
  • Freelancer: "How can I help?"
  • Prospero: "We need to fire it up again. That takes ember. And someone with the guts to collect it. If you can find some, I’m back in business. We both are—I’ll teach you how to craft things."
  • Freelancer: "Okay, I’ll bite."
  • Prospero: "What I wanted to hear. You’ll need to search for ember outside the fort. Bring it here and we can start getting this place back on its feet."

Briefing Gallery

In Expedition

The Freelancer ventures outside the walls into Northern Bastion.

Freeplay: Lighting a Fire

The Freelancer scours around to harvest resources. They can get ember as a by-product of the harvest.

Ember Pieces Collected

The Freelancer must collect at least 3 pieces of ember of any uncommon rarity.

  • Owen: "Looks like we’re ready. Anything needing attention I’ll let you know."
  • Freelancer: "Keep me updated."

The Freelancer flies around and looks for Harvest nodes to find ember. Once the embers are collected, they can head back to Fort Tarsis or continue exploring until the Server Session expires

Return to Fort Tarsis

The Freelancer returns to Fort Tarsis and visits Prospero in the market

Post Expedition

Speak with Prospero

The Freelancer returns to Fort Tarsis and heads towards the Forge.

  • Freelancer: "Hey, Prospero."
  • Prospero: "I know you’ve got good news."
  • Freelancer: "All the ember you need."
  • Prospero: "What I wanted to hear. Alright then! Let’s get to business and fire up the Forge. It’s time all these javelins around here get the tender loving care they deserve. Head on over to the Forge. You can start crafting. But don’t forget, when you want to make a statement, maybe polish that javelin up with a nice coat of paint and thunder! Come see me."
  • Freelancer: "So, you’re the thunder merchant, huh?"
  • Prospero: "Hey, the best Freelancers always arrive with a bang. But first, they buy it from me. Don’t be a stranger."

After this the Freelancer can head to the Forge to craft any item.

  • Most of the mission takes place in Freeplay.
  • The dialogs in this expedition will always remain the same as mentioned in this script. However, certain conversations may be skipped if actions are performed quickly, or additional conversations will show up if there is a delay.
