After Tassyn received the damaged archive from the Freelancer, she needed some time to decrypt the data. Meanwhile, she has tasked the Freelancer to help her Sentinel Agent Ryssa Brin, Arcanist Agent Matthias Sumner, and Freelancer Agent Yarrow as they require assistance.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough after the Cortex Entry section for documentation.
- Completing See in the Dark allows the Freelancer to see Runes outside the Fort walls. This will help complete several challenges.
- Owen will contact the Freelancer at the Forge when the third quest (any order) is completed, regardless of whether the Freelancer went to meet with the agents for briefing or not.
- Since Brin doesn’t have any post-mission briefing until her final agent quest, doing her quest last, will be the least immersion breaking. This is true because the other two have debriefing.
- Completing Preventative Precautions last is recommended, since it will directly let the Freelancer continue with the next mission.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Matthias mentions about his assistants who died during his failed expedition.
- Yarrow will say he hasn’t had breakfast whether or not it is daytime.
- The reason Brin can contract the Freelancer, even without letting her superiors know is because her rank is Lieutenant.
- Although the outcome states about Tassyn decrypting the archive, it actually happens during the debriefing of Finding Old Friends, which is the next critical objective.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Lending a Hand (Mission):
Briefing
Support Tassyn's Agents
After Tassyn walked away with the damaged archive, the Freelancer went to meet with the three agents.
Talk to Arcanist Matthias
Matthias is waiting inside Matthias Lab.
- Matthias: "My savior—and the reason Scars aren’t feasting on my liver right this minute. Bloody Scars. The spike in their activity has really thrown off my research."
- The Freelancer: "What are you working on, exactly?"
- Matthias: "I’m looking for a lost Arcanist text, known as the Elysian Manuscript. It was inscribed by early members of our order and has been lost for generations. Some Arcanists believe that their writings could help us predict the behavior of Shaper instruments. Imagine knowing if a relic will create firestorms. Or skorpions. Or shatter you into a thousand pieces."
- The Freelancer: "We could keep people safe."
- Matthias : "Indeed. Every little piece of knowledge we can scrape together helps."
- The Freelancer : "You’re making progress?"
- Matthias : "The heroic work done by my assistants—may they continue to seek answers beyond this life—led to a discovery. Turns out there was a far more ingenious way to pass knowledge along. Invisible. Runes."
- The Freelancer: "Invisible?"
- Matthias: "Runes, yes!"
- The Freelancer: "How do I…?"
- Matthias: "Aha! I’ve piqued your curiosity! You’ll just have to continue on this adventure to find out, won’t you? My—our research has revealed a potential site that may answer our questions."
- The Freelancer: "Just point me in the right direction."
The Freelancer can continue with this expedition in See in the Dark.
Talk to Freelancer Yarrow
Yarrow waits for the Freelancer in the Fort Tarsis Freelancer Enclave.
- Yarrow: "Ah, my new friend! You listened well to my story of Freemark, eh?"
- The Freelancer: "Never heard it told like that."
- Yarrow: "I was long retired. The Battle was not mine to fight. But good friends tell me. I was a Freelancer for many years. You know what Freelancers do?"
- The Freelancer: "We deal with things beyond the wall. Problems. We help people."
- Yarrow: "Truth. But it’s not so small as that. We explore. We fight chaos. We save lives, you hear me?"
- The Freelancer: "Okay, I hear you."
- Yarrow: "People could count on us. In this world, a big deal. But that has been long lost. People don’t trust us. Hard times now. But enough gloom. Got a contract for you. Going to protect some Arcanists doing seismic tests, okay?"
- The Freelancer: "Seismic tests?"
- Yarrow: "Yeah. Check to see if Fort Tarsis has strong foundation. Don’t want it to fall into a hole like last time."
- The Freelancer: "What?"
- Yarrow: "But these tests attract animals. The kind with teeth y’know? You protect one side of the Fort, and Freelancer Rythe will protect the other. You hear me?"
- The Freelancer: "I hear you."
- Yarrow: "Good. Now go. I’m hungry. No breakfast yet."
The Freelancer can continue with this expedition in What Freelancers Do.
Talk to Sentinel Brin
Brin waits for the Freelancer by her plants at her post.
- Sentinel Brin: "Hi! Freelancer. Hello."
- The Freelancer: "Sentinel. Good to see you again."
- Sentinel Brin: "Is it?"
- The Freelancer: "It is?"
- Sentinel Brin: "I don’t associate much with Freelancers."
- The Freelancer: "Okay…"
- Sentinel Brin: "Or anyone not a Sentinel, really."
- The Freelancer: "Well, I hope you don’t regret getting to know one of us."
- Sentinel Brin: "Yes, me too!"
Brin laughs goofily.
- The Freelancer: "Okay… can I help you with something…?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Yes! Well. Quietly. I don’t technically have permission from my superiors to be contracting you. But there’s been an unusual amount of Scar activity around a nearby Arcanist base. Whatever it is, it could be dangerous if Scars get hold of it."
- The Freelancer: "Agreed. I’ll check it out for you."
- Sentinel Brin: "Good. I mean… good luck, Freelancer."
- The Freelancer: "Right. No problem."
The Freelancer can continue with this expedition in Preventative Precautions.
Briefing Gallery
In Expedition
The Freelancer must complete these three Agent Missions while Tassyn decrypts the archive. When they are completed, they will report back to Tassyn. The Following Order is recommended for the best experience:
Once these missions are complete, the Freelancer returns to the Agent and then can speak with Tassyn inside the Fort. However, when the third mission (in any order) is completed, The Freelancer will receive a direct message through their comms link from Owen.
Post Expedition
When all 3 Agent quests are completed, and the Freelancer returns back to the Fort, they receive a message through their link by the Fort Tarsis Forge.
- Owen [Garbled]: "Hey there, it’s me."
- Freelancer: "Owen?"
- Owen [Garbled]: "We need to chat it’s important. Meet me in the bar."
- Freelancer: "Okay, I’ll be there… Owen? Huh."
At this point, the Freelancer can go directly to the bar to meet with Owen, or speak with the Agents to debrief about the mission with them, if haven't already.
Notes and Remarks
- It is best to speak with the 3 agents first and then do their quests in the recommended order.
- It is best to debrief with the agents after each of their individual mission is completed before meeting Owen at the bar.
- The dialogs in this expedition will always remain the same as mentioned in this script. However, certain conversations may be skipped if actions are performed quickly, or additional conversations will show up if there is a delay.
