This is the Legendary Mission version of the similarly named Critical Objective. Enemies are tougher, but the rewards are excellent.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- Make sure to read the text pop ups that show up with the icon
. This can be easily done using a Sniper Rifle and zooming in near the icon. - Solving the First Pedestal Puzzle:
- It is very easy to solve this type of puzzle. Simply match the Legion Symbolism pattern found in a close proximity of the two pedestals and interact with them.
- When the patterns on the pedestals match the two separate patterns on the walls, they submerge underground. This opens a door to the next chamber.
- Solving the Second Pedestal Puzzle:
- It is very easy to solve this type of puzzle. Simply match the Legion Symbolism pattern found in a close proximity of the pedestals and interact with them.
- When the patterns on the pedestals match the two separate patterns on the walls, they submerge underground.
- Repeat for all 3 locations. When all 6 pedestals are submerged, the door to the chamber of General Tarsis' tomb will be opened.
- Skorpions in large numbers can be a nuisance. Freezing them or using Combat Equipment that do Blast Damage will be beneficial during this mission.
- Beware of the exploding Worker; they can set a javelin on acid status which decreases health resistance.
- Use
Acid,
Armor Buster, or
Fire type damage to tackle Dominion Brutes or Turrets. - Use
Ice or
Lightning or
Shield Breaker damages to deplete any shields of enemies. - Set the Dominion Valkyries on burning status by doing Fire damage to them and disable their flight until the status wears off.
- Avoid defeating elite type Dominion Shocktroopers and remaining near them, because they drop loose death rattle grenades after their health is depleted, which self explode in a matter of seconds to do massive Lightning Blast damage.
- The Frost Hounds are very vulnerable to fire attack.
- It is also recommended to make use of any explosives scattered across the map during combat when in need.
- The Haven is filled with
Chimeric Alloys and
Chimeric Compounds.

Cortex Entry
Legendary: Tomb of General Tarsis (Mission) is categorized under the Legendary Mission type of expedition. These expeditions do not have any specific cortex entries associated with them.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- This expedition makes use of a Hidden Place called The Haven.
- When the Freelancer mentions about falling off a wall, they are referencing to the fact that during the time of release of Anthem, when a javelin hit a wall during flight, it crashed down. However, this was changed in a future update to make it so that it hovered instead.
- This is the first time it is said out loud that Cyphers can project objects called Cypher Projections. This by extension has been previously shown to have exist all the time when the Freelancer is exploring, or waiting inside green circles, or collecting loot etc.
- There are two text popups on the legion monument immediately after entering the Haven which mention about Legion Symbolism. Both texts read the same:
- These symbols are commonly found in Legion art. They are believed to be insignia from Legionnaire squadrons.
- The honor guard mentioned by Haluk during the exploration of the tomb are actually the Guardians of Dawn, i.e., Legionnaires Artinia, Cariff, Gawnes, and Yvenia.
- There is a text popup on an effigy (statue) called the tomb of an unknown lancer, inside the Haven which reads:
- Monuments like this one also stand at other Legion sites. They usually mark burials of lancers who could not be identified.
- There is another text pop up about the casualties of the Battle of Antium Pass by the coffins on the walls of the chamber opened after completing the first puzzle:
- Sources suggest that most of the lancers who fell in the Battle of Antium Pass were buried with Tarsis.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Legendary: Tomb of General Tarsis (Mission):
Briefing
Legendary: The Tomb of General Tarsis. Explore the tomb of General Tarsis to find her javelin.
In Expedition
The Freelancer comes outside the strider in the Tears of Liatrelle district.
Explore the lost Tomb of General Tarsis to find her javelin.
The Freelancer takes off in the direction shown by Faye.
Locate Tomb
As the Freelancer flies around, possibly with their team, they traverse through Gathering Falls, The Bowl, Governor Springs, The Crop Terraces.
- Faye: "And… connection established. It's strange doing this again."
- The Freelancer: "It's just like falling off a wall. You'll remember how it's done, no problem."
- Faye: "That's… not what you're supposed to do with walls. Sending you the location now. Shall we? Owen, do you want to link in on this?"
- Owen: "No, no. you've heard what they say about Cyphers. “One's a party, two's a crowd.”"
- Faye: "That's not how that saying goes."
- The Freelancer: "Owen."
- Owen: "Right. I'll just head to the Amplifier then."
- Haluk: "We're doing this mission or what?"
- The Freelancer: "Where are we going?"
- Faye: "The Tomb of General Tarsis."
- The Freelancer: "Wait, really? Tarsis herself?"
- Haluk: "According to Zhim it is."
- Faye: "I'm hoping to find her javelin buried with her. The Javelin of Dawn. You know the story of General Tarsis and the Mountain?"
- The Freelancer: "That's a children's tale. She fights a storm monster ad steals his voice to make asword."
- Faye: "Yes. But you have to admit, the Heart of Rage is a monster."
- The Freelancer: "Fair point."
The Freelancer flies to the marked location. When the Freelancer is around Strider Way.
- Faye: "You should be getting closer to the tomb."
- The Freelancer: "You really think the monster General Tarsis fought was the Cenotaph."
- Faye: "Honestly. I can't wait to find out. Picking up Dominion chatter in the area. Watch your back."
The freelancer goes inside the Haven.
- The Freelancer: "We're inside. Look at this place."
Explore Tomb
The Freelancer can find several Legion of Dawn items and many buried people on the walls. When they go further, there is large monument. Beside this are two Legion Symbolism and a text pop-up.
- The Freelancer: "We're inside. Look at this place."
- Faye: "Great. I'v got Haluk practically climbing my amplifier to watch."
- Haluk: "You think this is really it? The general's tomb?"
- The Freelancer: "Let's find out."
- Faye: "Be careful. Just because humans couldn't find the tomb all these years, doesn't mean it is empty."
The Freelancer encounters several skorpions.
- Faye: "Skorpions. There must be a nest."
- The Freelancer: "There won't be for long."
Defeat Skorpions
The Freelancer fights the nested creatures and defeats them all.
Explore Tomb
The Freelancer then finds a locked door which could lead deeper into the tomb. Meanwhile, there is an effigy which has a text pop up.
- The Freelancer: "Talk to me Faye. How do I get this door opened?"
- Faye: "The control mechanism must be inside this room. Take another look around for me."
Unlock Door
Ther Freelancer finds the control mechanism on the other side of the chamber
- Faye: "That's the control mechanism for the lock. See what you can do with it."
The Freelancer has to match the Legion Symbolisms on the mechanism with that on a nearby wall. When the puzzle is solved
- Faye: "That's it."
- Haluk: "You know, I think mourners would have gathered in this room. There should be an honor guard. At least four lancers. Standing over there."
- The Freelancer: "No one here now."
- Faye: "There's us. Do right by the General in there, lancer."
Explore Tomb
The Freelancer goes further inside the tomb. There are even more people buried on the walls. There is a text pop up on one such burial. When the Freelancer enters the inner sanctum there are more fauna.
- Haluk: "More skorpions? Damnit, clean out these pests."
- The Freelancer: "How many are nesting in here? All of them?"
Defeat Skorpions
The Freelancer encounters more skorpions and defeats them all, again.
Explore Tomb
The Freelancer finds another locked door.
- Haluk: "More doors. The Legion sealed this place up tight."
- Faye: "Of course they did. They were protecting their leader's resting place."
Pedestals Solved
The Freelancer must solve 3 pedestal puzzles to unlock the door by matching the Symbolism on the pedestals with the ones on nearby walls. The Legion Symbolism on the walls, unlike the previous one are spread out well. There are 3 sets of pedestals.
- Faye: "You should look around the room a bit. The clues we need might be nearby."
The Freelancer solves all the puzzles.
- Faye: "The door's opening!"
- Haluk: "Nice work."
The freelancer enters the chamber.
Explore Tomb
The Freelancer goes through the door of General Tarsis' Tomb and finds a sarcophagus in the center of the room. Several statues are around the tomb. The room and the sarcophagus are well preserved, even though it has been nearly half a millennium. The Freelancer walks further.
- The Freelancer: "Faye, no sign of a javelin. But I think we just found General Tarsis."
- Haluk: "They marked her grave with the signet. A lancer to the end."
The Freelancer walks towards the sarcophagus. The statue on it opens its hands revealing the General's signet. The Freelancer wiggles their fingers before taking it
- Faye: "If that's really hers… you know what this means? It could open the Fortress of Dawn."
The Freelancer hears an unexpected noise in the room.
- The Freelancer: "Faye, we have a complication."
The Monitor is somehow present inside the tomb!
- Owen: "He's a cypher projection. A strong one."
The Monitor's cypher projection walks towards the Freelancer.
- The Monitor: "Hello again, Freelancer. Happy to see you."
- The Freelancer: "What do you want?"
- The Monitor: "Same as you: I want her javelin, the one that conquered the Heart of Rage."
- The Freelancer: "Why? Are you a history buff?"
The Freelancer and the Monitor's projection circle each other around the Sarcophagus.
- The Monitor: "Someone's got to inherit what she left behind. I deserve to carry on her legacy."
- Owen: "He's stalling. We can use that. Keep him talking while I break into Dominion communication."
- The Freelancer: "You think you're the next General Tarsis? I had no idea that the Dominion was that delusional."
- The Monitor: " We don't need to be enemies, Freelancer. You think I give even one damn about the Cenotaph or the Heart of Rage? All I want is the Anthem of Creation. Imagine all the good that we could do. We decide what's best for the world. The power of pure creation under our fingertips. More important than General Tarsis."
The two now simply face each other as they speak.
- The Freelancer: "What happens to the People of Bastion matters more to me."
- The Monitor: "If they're so damned precious to you, have them. Just give me the Javelin of Dawn. One rusty old javelin, in exchange for all those lives. That's generous don't you think?"
- Faye: "He's trying to trace your location. I'm picking up Dominion soldiers in the area."
- The Freelancer: "There is no javelin. Get glitched."
The Freelancer walks through the Monitor's projection to glitch it in an attempt to render his tracing pointless. When the Freelancer walks outside the tomb, unfortunately, the Monitor had already traced their location and sent spawns of Dominion troops. But the Freelancer has the general's signet. So, it is in their best interest to not die and return with it.
Reach the Strider with the Signet
The Freelancer must escape this rather tough situation.
Defeat Dominion
The Dominion troops gate in.
- The Freelancer: "Faye?"
- Faye: "Dominion forces are already in the tomb. Get out fast. You can't lose the signet."
The Freelancer fights the enemies.
- Faye: " Will you be alright? I can call the fort. But help will take time to arrive."
- The Freelancer: "Nobody from Fort Tarsis will get here in time."
Escape Ambush
As the Freelancer rushes towards the exit of the Haven, they are ambushed by more Dominion enemies.
Defeat Enemies
The number is quite high, and many of them are elite enemies; the Dominion really wants that signet. But against all odds, the Freelancer defeats them all!
- The Freelancer: "How's it look, Faye?"
- Faye: "The tomb is clear, but there are more outside."
- The Freelancer: "They don't give up, do they?"
Exit Tomb
The Freelancer flies outside the Haven.
- Faye: "We're coming to pick you up. Sending you directions to meet us."
- The Freelancer: "On my way."
Reach Strider
There are Dominion waiting outside the Haven, with turrets and Valkyries waiting at Stone Bridge. The Freelancer has the choice to defeat them and escape, or simply escape.
- The Freelancer: "Faye? When you said there were Dominion outside, did you mean all the Dominion?"
- Faye: "Just run. You need to get out of there."
There Freelancer can fight these enemies if they choose to. They still have the option to ignore them and escape to the Strider. The Freelancer is out of the Dominion range, as they fly away through Honor Valley. They can take a minor rest on Howel's Tower in Korox Shallows to cool their javelin's boosters.
- Faye: "You're in the clear, I think."
- The Freelancer: "That was close. I'm getting really sick of that guy."
- Faye: "I'll admit. I didn't expect us to run into this much trouble. I expected dangerous wildlife. Maybe Scars."
- The Freelancer: "This is the second time I've run into the Monitor, I think I'd actually prefer an ursix."
The Freelancer makes it back to Haluk's Strider waiting in Korox Shallows
- The Freelancer: "I'm back. With the signet, even."
- Faye: "Good work. Let's get you inside."
Open Chest
The Freelancer opens the Treasure Chest.
Post Expedition
The Freelancer can repeat this expedition or go on a different one.
Notes and Remarks
- Unless the chest is opened, the expedition will not end.
- The moment the chest is opened, the expedition end banner shows up, unlike the Critical Objective counterpart.
- There is no need to fight any enemy once coming out of the Haven. However, defeating them could help with completing Feats for more XP.
- The dialogs in this expedition will always remain the same as mentioned in this script. However, certain conversations may be skipped if actions are performed quickly, or additional conversations will show up if there is a delay.
Note: The Expedition Maps feature is still a Work in Progress. Sometimes, a refreshing/reloading of this page may be required to zoom-in or zoom-out completely.
