Convector Henge
See Cortex Entry: Convector Henge for More Details

This now dormant Shaper relic juts out of the earth like walls arranged in a large circular pattern. It became active around 250 L.V. and is thought to be connected to water boiling in the nearby water source, The Bowl. The Scar Luminary known as Junkhead undertook efforts to unearth this relic, but was defeated. Freelancers silenced the relic and it has not been active since.

East Valve
See Cortex Entry: East Valve for More Details

East Valve used to be a popular meeting place for outlaws, but when the Heart of Rage started, people began to go missing, and its popularity waned.

Honor Valley Dam
See Cortex Entry: Honor Valley Dam for More Details

In 380, Arcanist Phredies Par came to Fort Tarsis with the daring idea of creating farmland in Honor Valley by diverting some of the water system. With approval from Antium, Par and a team of engineers and architects set forth to build the dam, completing it in 384. Farmers, Arcanists and Sentinels joined forces to plant and maintain the farmland, yielding more crop than most city terraces.

Howel's Tower
See Cortex Entry: Howel's Tower for More Details

Central lookout tower for the dam area, named after Commander Yarrick Howel. Commander Howel arrived from Antium upon the commencement of building the Honor Valley Dam, and was particularly diligent in his care of the workers in the area. “He was tough,” recounts Sentinel Fatima Lan, “but that's because he cared. He wasn’t going to lose anyone on his watch. And until the Scars… he didn’t.” Howel died defending workers during the Scar attack.

Radio Tower
See Cortex Entry: Radio Tower for More Details

I, Governor Tanner, do hereby approve the commencement of the extension of Fort Tarsis. With this radio tower, the Emperor gives his Sentinels leave to patrol and coordinate the building of a new dawn for Fort Tarsis and the new people flooding in every day to take part in the exciting work here in Honor Valley.

Ring Gate
See Cortex Entry: Ring Gate for More Details

From the earliest days of human freedom, these Shaper rings have long been a source of study and speculation for the Arcanist community. While much knowledge has been lost about the Ring Gate, it is thought that both gates used to be upright, and that the second one fell to the ground some 300 years ago. Arcanists hypothesize that the Ring most likely fell due to seismic activity, which may connect it to the same Shaper activity that destroyed Velathra.

Sanctuary Ruins (1)
See Cortex Entry: Sanctuary Ruins (1) for More Details

Long ago, a wealthy merchant and a princess of Antium fell deeply in love. It was declared, however, that Vassa's heir must not leave Antium until her duty to the people was fulfilled. Undaunted, the merchant vowed that he would come again when she was done. Years passed, and as he waited, he rebuilt the old Sanctuary, where so many Legionnaires had fallen, into a beautiful temple that stood as a symbol of his devotion. Years past, and his hair was grey when at last he came to her again. “My love” he said, “You’re old and your duties are done. Let us be together at last.” Antium could not object. Upon seeing the home he’d made for them, the Princess shook with happiness. Hand in hand, they entered the palace with a blissful sigh, their last breaths on this earth. For though they couldn’t be together in life, they knew they would be together forever in death.

Sanctuary Ruins (2)
See Cortex Entry: Sanctuary Ruins (2) for More Details

In 468 LV, the Spear, a powerful Dominion Valkyrie leader, tampered with Shaper instruments in the Bastion region—this resulted in the formation of a Cataclysm known as the "Echoes of Reality." As a side-effect of this tampering, the Cataclysm unleashed a wave of energy that caused Shaper instruments throughout the region to activate unpredictably. One such instrument obliterated the ancient ruins of Sanctuary in the Emerald Abyss.

Scar Burrow
See Cortex Entry: Scar Burrow for More Details

A classic example of scavenged materials used for Scar purposes, the Burrow is the heavily fortified entrance to their nest, which was (at the time of printing this book) found directly within.

Scar Mast
See Cortex Entry: Scar Mast for More Details

The totality of their mimicry can be witnessed in what Scars build. The Scar “mast” at the Duskheap is clearly a Scar attempt to build a watchtower, and as a defensive structure, it has been disturbingly successful. How the Scars organized this construction is unknown, and no matter how many times it has been destroyed, the Scars have always rebuilt it in some capacity.

Scar Tower
See Cortex Entry: Scar Tower for More Details

And now the Scars have built their most significant structure, the Scar Tower, equipped with defensive weapons they have never had before. This would never have happened if the Freelancers had not gone north, if they had stayed at Fort Tarsis and done their job. Now its destruction is impossible, and the Scars will thrive.

Shadow Lock
See Cortex Entry: Shadow Lock for More Details

Here be the pass to Freemark.
“So built to contain our woes, and stop the concern of others from adding to our peril.”

Skystone Lock
See Cortex Entry: Skystone Lock for More Details

Built in 207 L.V., this strider port was built specifically to keep skorpions from migrating over the mountains into Heliost. Though the inscription reads, “May our paths go ever on together in peace,” the Skystone Lock has seen its share of violence and, in 392, outlaws captured the lock for a hijacking during the busy trading days of the great expansion. Scars captured the Lock again in 464; they hold the Fort Tarsis side of the lock, while the path to Heliost on the other side is guarded by Sentinels.

Stone Bridge
See Cortex Entry: Stone Bridge for More Details
Sunken Gardens
See Cortex Entry: Sunken Gardens for More Details

The distinct style of the caverns point to the fact that urgoth were not the only Anzu capable of building and design. The caverns differ from Shaper ruins, and even have, dare I say, an appreciation for aesthetics. What was this being that created such beauty? Was it just one? Or perhaps many? Perhaps they were not so different from us. Though urgoth were indeed Anzu, not all Anzu were urgoth.

The Antium Lock
See Cortex Entry: The Antium Lock for More Details

The southern lock to Antium is the most important strider lock in northern Bastion, not only because it's the road to Antium and the only supply line into Fort Tarsis, but also because it has been successful in keeping certain wildlife from migrating south to Antium.

The Drill
See Cortex Entry: The Drill for More Details

If we needed further proof that the Monument and its twin in the Great Expanse were connected, we need look no further than the Drill. Surely this is a tool for excavation? Our own drilling machinery was said to be based on Shaper instruments… would it be such a stretch to believe that we succeeded in our replication of their device? Mentors have said it is foolhardy to try to guess what the ruins and relics were meant for, but this instance seems the exception.

The Faithful
See Cortex Entry: The Faithful for More Details

This enormous statue was built to honor “The Faithful of the Haven” who chose to stay at the Legion's first stronghold when the urgoth attacked. Through the haven had been evacuated, fifty odd Faithful—made of lancers, healers, pages, and cooks—stayed to create the illusion of protecting the population, drawing the enemies’ attention away from Tarsis’ effort to move hundreds of refugees to the Fortress of Dawn. Few survived, but the legend lives on.

The Fortress of Dawn
See Cortex Entry: The Fortress of Dawn for More Details

The Foremost structure of the Legion of Dawn, the fortress was the gathering place of free people during the battle against the urgoth. Its high walls and strategic position ensured that attack was difficult and never unexpected. The Volume of Tarsis describes how, at its zenith, the fortress housed thousands of people building javelins and striders and training warriors. Though the twin colossi statues that overlook the fortress were intended to intimidate the urgoth, it is thought that the urgoth never made an attack on the fortress, having met their defeat at the Dawn Gates. After Tarsis’ death, the decision was made to leave the fortress, and the free peoples headed south to Antium. The exact reason why has never been determined.

The Garrison
See Cortex Entry: The Garrison for More Details
The Great Eddian
See Cortex Entry: The Great Eddian for More Details

Long ago, the graceful and majestic beast named the Eddian roamed our world. Possessing deadly horns and hooves, none dare challenge the Eddian, none save the greedy Ezurite Anzu, who found it most delicious. It hunted the Eddian until only one remained. Freelancers decided to protect the Eddian and battled the Anzu at the watering hole. The Anzu was driven off, but the Eddian was mortally wounded. As it died, plants welcomed it back to the earth, and a great tree sprung from where it lay. Freelancers still consider the Great Eddian to be in their protection, keeping their vow from long ago.

The Hate Engine
See Cortex Entry: The Hate Engine for More Details

This bloated “engine” Appeared around 453, discovered by Freelancer Bowie Byrne. In a statement to Arcanists, Byrne described how “the smell coming out of that thing was really something. Could smell it right through my suit. I don’t know what they were going to use it for… nothing good.” Despite human efforts to destroy the engine, Scars have managed to defend it
— From History of Scars by Hanni Blythe

The Monument
See Cortex Entry: The Monument for More Details

One of the largest active Shaper relics in northern Bastion, the monument is thought to effect ripstream for the entire area. In 344 Arcanists discovered that some of the metal used in the monument was like no other metal yet known, affecting gravity and wind by creating ripstream. In 396, it was discovered that a similar monument existed on the other side of the mountain pass, prompting Arcanists to theorize that the monument is merely the outermost point of a huge interconnected network of shaper instruments that live underground.

The Last Sentinel
See Cortex Entry: The Last Sentinel for More Details

All agreed that they should head for Arath, where they could find a good night's rest and visit Old Flori. Once an important citadel guarding travelers along the high road, a battle between two titans outside its doors reduced the citadel to rubble, with only the watchtower remaining secure. Flori stayed behind when the other Sentinels left, continuing to keep the fires lit. Indeed, the last remaining structure had become known not only as safe haven for lancers, but a place where you would be well fed, for Flori was an excellent hunter and an even better maker of soup.

The Wedged Key
See Cortex Entry: The Wedged Key for More Details

The Key is one of the most common Shaper ruins, found all over the known world. What makes this one different? It's believed to be an Anzu place of worship. This figure has been found painted into various caves, with light coming from its center. So is it a ruin or a relic? Ancient Anzu Arcanists think it's the latter.
— From Ancient Anzu radio show

The Workshop
See Cortex Entry: The Workshop for More Details

The workshop building was the primary hub of repair and maintenance for the farm. All equipment was left behind during the evacuation and subsequently scavenged by Scars.

Vassa's Way
See Cortex Entry: Vassa's Way for More Details

And once the throng had passed, Vassa gathered his verses and smote the bridge to the fortress so that no beast could easily cross. “Let nothing enter that is not worthy. That Tarsis’ secrets are not lost, nor easily won.” And he brought forth the waters to cover the meet, and swallow up the Legion's glory. The Legion of Dawn, once the beacon of freedom for mankind, was truly no more. And so Vassa led the people south to Antium, his own heart breaking with every step.

Wrecked Gazebo
See Cortex Entry: Wrecked Gazebo for More Details

A Sentinel watchtower and a dock from striders on their way to and from Freemark. When Vassa built Anshar, he erected four gazebos around the perimeter to serve as watchtowers, but the residents of Shadowmark used them for everything from civic offices to the Chronicler's Volary. As with any high-standing structure, Sentinels would always be present.
