Notable Arcanists
These are Arcanists who have published their work in some form or the other, but haven’t been seen prominently. They may be alive or deceased as of as of 468 LV.
Bach Jamoon
Bach Jamoon is an Arcanist and Philosopher of Bastion. He has written historical and philosophical books such as Searching for Reality: An Overview of Arcanist History and Ancient Goods, the Shapers' Role in the Economics of Modern Trade. The current status of Jamoon is unknown.
Hanni Blythe
Hanni Blythe is a historian of Bastion. She has been studying Scars since their invasion and has published about them in her work History of Scars. The current status of Blythe is unknown.
Hrennen
Hrennen was an Ancient Arcanist before the time of the Human Resistance. He was the first to discover the Gateway technology, which would eventually let Arden Vassa create the Javelin of Dawn. It is unknown whether he was alive during the time of the Legion of Dawn.
Kurcer Attjax
Kurcer Attjax is an Arcanist mentor whose firsthand experience with dangerous events, such as the one dealing with the Hesperian Serpent and other chimeras, which made him write Coiled Storm: Firsthand Accounts of the Hesperian Serpent, I Beckoned the Stranger, The Unknown Blood, and The Grindstone of Fate. In these works, he discusses the dangerous wildlife of Coda, especially those that can be spawned through Shaper relics. Attjax is also the only mentioned person who has written 4 books. It is unknown whether Attjax is alive or deceased.
Jasper Wyre
Jasper Wyre was an Arcanist who ventured into the Foundry, and perhaps became one of those people entwined in the Mystery of the Emerald Abyss. Jasper's final words are written in this Arcanist's work, An Expedition of the Blue and Baleful.
Mentor Idris
Mentor Idris was an Ancient Arcanist during the Rule of the Urgoth. He was the one to teach Arden Vassa about emberlings and runes. He and his pupil Vassa escaped an Urgoth master called F'kark and eventually meet Helena Tarsis and the others that rebelled in the Haven. Idris died long before the Legion of Dawn reached its epitome.
More about Idris can be read in Vassa and the Runes. Vassa named the Palisades of Idris are named after him because those cliffs protected all the people who were taught by mentors such as Idris.
Mentor Sathya
Mentor Sathya is a Dominion Arcanist who was involved in the creation of the artificial Gate technolory for transporting living and lifeless entities across great distances. Until the Season of Skulls Festival of 468 LV, Sathya remained quiet about how the Gate technology was invented with the help of one of the most brilliant minds of Coda, Saln Govran. Sathya finally revealed everything through his book An Account of My Time with Saln Govran, inclusing what would happen to anyone who dares pass through a gate to reach any place. Sathya is still alive as of 468 LV.
Neth Stelus
Neth Stelus was an Ancient Arcanist from around the time of the construction of Fort Tarsis. He built several devices to detect any tremors beneath the Fort because he was deeply saddened by the fact that the first chosen site collapsed because of a sink hole. Because of this, Freelancers of the Fort still help Arcanists to perform seismic tests to this day. He had also stood trial in several other Arcanist related trials, such as the one concerning Haer Braul.
Orun
Orun is an Arcanist who studies Shaper Relics. Some of his work can be found mentioned in the Arcanist Archives. Orun also finds a strange drawing while staying at Fort Tarsis, which made the Arcanist realize that the Fort's children needed new toys or books. The current status of Orun is unknown.
Rebus
Rebus is an Arcanist from the Arcanist Academy in Antium, whose team was found by the Freelancer, after they were captured and murdered by the Outlaws working for the Symposium of Anshar. Rebus thanked the Freelancer for bringing news about his colleagues researching in the wilderness. Rebus is alive as of 468 LV.
Tansy Hull
Tansy Hull is a Botanist. She loves the plants of Coda so much that she has written about the Joy of Botany in her scientific work. It is unknown whether Hull is still alive as of 468 LV. The current status of Hull is unknown.
Timon Batrok
Timon Batrok is a biologist in Bastion who specializes in studying the dangerous flora and fauna of Coda. From his writings, he seems like a cynic who thinks everything is dangerous. Batrok recently made comments about Blirpbits during the Season of Skulls (Festival) of 468 LV, where he wished to disect Kit to satiate his curiosity. His magnum opus is called A Guide to Living Things That Will Kill You. Batrok is alive as of 468 LV.
Utassi Hans
Utassi Hans was an Arcanist Field Researcher studying the docile fauna of Bastion. A lot of Hans' work were in the form of short journals. These were compiled into a book called An Explorer's Account: The Collected Journals of Utassi Hans by madame Chronicler of Fort Tarsis.
Venwick Crok
Venwick Crok is a zoologist who loves the amazing creatures, docile or hostile, of Coda. He studies them and writes about them in the most enthusiastic way possible. His primary work is called Bastion's Amazing Animals!. Venwick has also written a letter about training grabbits as pets. The current status of Crok is unknown.
Vera Tan
Vera Tan is an Arcanist who was captured by Scars and taken down into one of their Scar Forts. After her rescue, she narrated her story of this account.
Wyat Aven
Wyat Aven is an historian and mentor from the Arcanist Academy in Antium who learned about the discovery of the tombs of the Guardians of Dawn, the Tomb of General Tarsis, opening the Fortress of Dawn and contacted the Freelancer so that the two could exchange notes in 468 LV. He is still alive.
Yerth Praedean
Yerth Praedean was an Arcanist Apprentice studying astronomy. He was smart enough to study and chart the cycles of the Moons of Coda, but worked clumsily. One day, he slipped and fell from the top a waterfall near the Ring Gate to his death. In his honor, the waterfalls were named Praedean Falls, which serves as a double pun, because Praedean actually fell there.
Zhim's Arcanist
Zhim's Arcanist is a tentative name given to an Arcanist present at the court of Princess Zhim in 467 LV, while she talks to Aushkiir, after the latter presented “her highness” with the pheromone sac of a young mantikar. Zhim made this Arcanist endure the stench the sac emitted by clasping onto his hand tightly, even amid the entire court of the Regulator boss running away to evade the horrendous malodor. When she let the Arcanist go, he reluctantly too the box containing the mantikar organ and fled.
It is very likely this was the same masked man who presented the same sac fermented in chimera venom, which the Freelancer ate in stead of haluk, entertaining Zhim in the process, in 468 LV. It is unknown if he is alive or dead after the Dominion ambush at Zhim's hideout.
Lesser Known Arcanists
These are Arcanists who are still alive and well but are mentioned only in passing by or shown sparsely in Anthem or any of its related media.
Ailyn Valance
Ailyn Valance is an Arcanist who studies Shaper ruins such as the Bane Engine. She think that they may hide gates in them which teleports people to different locations. She has a journal where she writes about her theories and observations.
Bayar Thost
Bayar Thost is the Associate Assistant Under-Editor for Arcanist Monthly. In 468 LV, when the Freelancer had accidentally subscribed to this journal, Thost sent an apology mail for this mishap.
Blais
Blais is either an Arcanist Apprentice or a full fledged Arcanist who was . While they initially traveled all across northern Bastion, his mentor and team eventually went to Fortuo to find more answers. This took place much before 468 LV when he traveled with his uncle Fenton.
Christopher Tan
Christopher Tan is a cartographer who was on the look out for human ruins like the Tomb of General Tarsis. He has written the book Search for the General: The Diaries of Cartographer Christopher Tan.
Dac Semper
Dac Semper was among the pioneer Arcanists trying to prove the existence of and search for the Elysian Manuscript. Although Dac couldn't find it, his work eventually led Matthias to find out the manuscript's whereabouts.
Davis Ellon
Davis Ellon was the Arcanist who designed the weapon Bad Omen to strike fear from the sound it makes while being fired.
Declan Sumner
Declan Sumner is an ornithologist who studies the birds of Bastion. He has written Birds of Bastion: A Field Guide. It is unknown whether Declan is related to Matthias.
Delana Vale
Delana Vale is an “Arcanist”, specifically an Ancient Anzu Arcanist. Vale runs a conspiracy radio show called Ancient Anzu. Although, mostly as a conspiracy theorist, Vale, along with her fellow Ancient Anzu Arcanists, questions how certain unexplainable structures came to be, and usually attribute them to the Anzu.
Deni
Deni was an Arcanist explorer who discovered a new type of plant that glows in the dark and emits and electrical charge around Serpent's View.
Farn Belharrow
Farn Belharrow is an Arcanist who moderately supported the Freelancers despite their defeat during the Battle of Freemark, while addressing the Council of Mentors.
Felton
Felton is an Archeologist. He was involved in The Search for the Lost Tomb of General Tarsis with other Arcanists and his nephew Blais.
Fionna Nomeri
Fionna Nomeri is a historian who wrote Early Days: A Reckoning of War.
Garrington Wells
Garrington Wells is a zoologist of Bastion. He is known for his work Signs of Life and The Green Hunters. Excerpts from his work can be found here.
Goeman
Goeman is an Arcanist who has done research on time. His work is called Goeman's Chronoscopic Hypothesis.
Haer Baul
Haer Baul was an Arcanist from the past who was under trial for doing something presumably unethical. Arcanist Neth Stelus argued in his favor with a resonable doubt during the trial.
Hrenna Vale
Hrenna Vale is an Arcanist Apprentice under the mentorship of Kahl. Vale stole fruit from the Fort Tarsis Market, and was caught by Madame Chronicler. The Chronicler paid for the fruit, but wrote a long letter lecturing about this incident to Kahl.
Hrenna Vale may be related to Delana Vale, but it remains unconfirmed.
Ingal Bass
Ingal Bass is a biologist who has written the book The Easy Toil: Breaking Ground in Bastion.
Kahl
Kahl is an Arcanist Mentor for Hrenna Vale. Madame Chronicler once caught Vale stealing. So she complained by sending a letter of pompous disapproval.
Kei Hasa
Kei Hasa was an archeologist who studied ruins such as The Mandible and the Necropolis and created several field notes on them.
Krista Sonma
Krista Sonma is an Arcanist who encourages the practice of an ancient Arcanist exercise technique called Hatva.
Maris
Maris was an Arcanist Apprentice. She once saved her mentor from the deepest trouble in a sinkhole.
Maris' Mentor
Maris' Mentor was an Arcanist who was studying a Shaper ruin, but unfortunately due to a sinkhole and a cave in, was in the deepest trouble. This account took place when Velathra was still a splendid Arcanist settlement, hence this person couldn't be alive any longer.
Reeve
Reeve was an Arcanist who was killed by a pack of wolven along with and Engineer called Dahr. Lox Bergol makes a mention of their deaths in his book Lost Sun and Rain.
Sab Hendt
Sab Hendt is an archeologist who studied the Anzu. Hendt also wrote the book The Moment After Sunrise.
Sethi Guj
Sethi Guj was an Arcanist Field Researcher who once encountered an Ursix. Although Guj was inside the cargo container of a strider, the Ursix kept trying to break into it.
Tarran Snurt
Tarran Snurt is an Arcanist who has written the book Echoes of Dunar. In one of the Arcanist Monthly issues, it was mentioned that Snurt would be talking about this book.
Encountered Arcanists
These are the Arcanists with whom the Freelancer encounters during any expedition but aren’t represented enough in any Anthem related media to justify their own pages. Their faces aren’t usually shown during any expedition, and they are shown with generic Arcanist models. They may, however be alive or dead. They may even be voiced.
Ballo
Ballo is an Arcanist who travelled in the strider guarded by Freelancer Kalish. Along with his team, he was captured by the scars eventually when the strider was sold to them by Diggs. He is the one who breaks the news of their deceased Freelancer to the Freelancer while being rescued.
Martul
Martul is an Arcanist who travelled in the strider guarded by Freelancer Kalish. She was captured by the scars eventually when the strider was sold to them by Diggs. Shee is the one who breaks the news of sold them to the scars when the Freelancer rescues them, and informs about the monstrous scar.
Ines Aloova
Ines Aloova was the expedition leader for one of the research groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. He was killed by Scars, due to which, she failed to contact the fort Cyphers when she was expected to do so. Her body was found near a Sentinel tower in the First Refuge by the Freelancer while searching for Matthias.
Aima Damarcus
Aima Damarcus was an Arcanist historian in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. She was also a poet of some acclaim. She died because of ascar attack on the expedition. Her body was found on a the ground between two platforms in the First Refuge by the Freelancer while searching for Matthias.
Enoban Solvan
Enoban Solvan was an Arcanist mentor in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. Students of the Arcanist Academy in Antium named him "the most inspiring mentor" for 3 consecutive years. He only returned for doing Field Research about 2 months before the Freelancer repaired the Early Warnings systems. He also died from the scar attacks. His body was found under a platform in the First Refuge by the Freelancer while searching for Matthias.
Jade Amseth
Jade Amseth was a researcher in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. She specialized in the study of stray Anthem related energy such as echoes and other fragments. She was the partner of Kel Orion, beside whom she died after a scar attack. Her body was found on a platform near a Sentinel tower in the First Refuge by the Freelancer while searching for Matthias.
Kel Orion
Kel Orion was a researcher in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. He specialized in the study of stray Anthem related energy and discovered a way to render stray echoes inert, so that they could be studied. He was the partner of Jade Amseth, beside whom he died after a scar attack. His body was found on a platform near a Sentinel tower in the First Refuge by the Freelancer while searching for Matthias.
Dak Emil
Dak Emil was an Arcanist in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. She died when the scars attacked this expedition. She was also an Archivist. Her body was found under the bridge near the tower in First Refuge by the Freelancer.
Hawke Rendor
Hawke Rendor was an Arcanist in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. He died when the scars attacked this expedition. Although he had no notable contributions as an Arcanist, he played the role of Blaze Binoche in the radio play Crimson Lancer, which was a recurring character.
Wyla Kassal
Wyla Kassal was an Arcanist specializing in mechanical projects, especially when it came to javelins. She was among those in one of the groups led by Matthias during the study of Shaper artifacts near the fort. She was developing a new class of seals for the Storm javelin before her untimely death during the experition from scar sttacks. Her body was found near one of the Stormglas radio towers in the First Refuge by the Freelancer.
