Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like Text Pop Up for the best view.
  • Remember to destroy the generators that are at the extreme back end of the final battle arena.
  • Outlaw infantry can be easily tackled with any combat equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
  • For Outlaw Elementalists and Gunners, it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage.
  • Outlaw Elementalists are good at flushing enemies that are hiding or taking cover, try to bring them down first with fire or ice after de-shielding them.
  • Outlaw Shotgunners and the Dominion Brutes have armored health. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them. Same goes for turrets.
  • Baker is an Outlaw Shotgunner. Have a look at the enemy page for strategy to deal with him.
  • Diggs is an Outlaw Lancer. Go to the enemy page to find a combad strategy to deal with him.

Divider 4

Yarrow has a plan to lure outlaws to Rythe's location and trace them back to the hidden base of their ruthless leader, Diggs.

Outcome: Using Freelancer Rythe as a decoy, you tracked down the imposter Freelancer Diggs to his secret hideout. Inside you discovered his final deal involved kidnapping and trading Freelancers to the Dominion in exchange for advanced weapons and armor. The captured Freelancers were more than ready to help bring Diggs and his outlaw crew down. With Diggs no longer a threat, work can now begin on healing the damage he did to the reputation of all Freelancers.

Quest Chain

This expedition is a part of the Shallow Grave Storyline. When the storyline is completed, an appropriate challenge is also completed, which will reward the Freelancer. The following are the related quests in order for this storyline:

  1. Overdue
  2. Tempting Target
  3. Contract: First Response
  4. Bad Deal
  5. Impostor

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • The expedition objective wrongly uses the word imposter in place of impostor when showed in the expedition menu.
  • Legendary Enemies show up in this expedition: Outlaw Rocket Trooper, Dominion Storm Brute
  • If the Freelancer follows Rythe after they decide to split up, Rythe goes a bit further away and disappears!
  • This expedition makes use of a Hidden Place called the Necropolis, an Anzu ruin.
  • The text pop up on the black crate reads:
    • Stolen Freelancer Gear: Engraved with the name “Hopkins.”
  • There is a text pop up near the place where maa was constrained:
    • Stolen Freelancer Gear: Engraved with the name "Maa." Note scratched in metal underneath reads "Come back, my love."
  • The text pop up on the generator-like item on the central Anzu structure reads:
    • Dominion Marked Crate: Prototype electrical defense grid system.
  • The text pop up on the crate around where combat with Diggs happens reads:
    • Dominion Marked Crate: Advanced weapon systems for Ranger-class javelin.
  • The crate opposite to the crate around where combat with Diggs happens reads:
    • Dominion Marked Crate: High-capacity generator and replacement parts.
  • This marks the end of all Freelancer related expeditions. It is unknown how the Freelancers have been viewed after this preposterous story of outlaws disguising themselves as Freelancers. It may never be known since Anthem’s development has ended.

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Impostor (Mission):

Briefing

In the Freelancer Enclave of Fort Tarsis, Yarrow waits along with Rythe.

  • Yarrow: "And here is the other member of this team."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Hey, Big Star, looks like we’ll be workin’ together again."
  • The Freelancer: "Freelancer Rythe, good to see you back at it."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Hell yeah, back at it. Whiskers here has a plan that starts with “Hello, Diggs” and ends with the bad guy in tears. You in?"
  • The Freelancer: "I’m in. He’s done enough damage."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Damn straight. Okay, grandpa, tell us a story."
  • Yarrow: "Yes, okay. Diggs has grown very powerful, very quickly, but dangerous people are angry at him."
  • The Freelancer: "He needs a win."
  • Yarrow: "He does. So Rythe will go and fake a distress call."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Fancy gear, alone. wounded, middle of nowhere. Easy pickings, right?"
  • The Freelancer: "Diggs will definitely notice."
  • Yarrow: "Maybe he comes out to take a look."
  • The Freelancer: "Okay, let’s do it."
  • Yarrow: "Oh, and Freelancer, my friends are still missing. I know Diggs is behind me. You find him, you hear me?"
  • The Freelancer: "I hear you."

Locate Diggs' Base

The Freelancer prepares their javelin while Rythe and Yarrow get ready.

Launch Expedition

The Freelancer enters the wilderness of Northern Bastion outside of the Fort walls.

Briefing Gallery

In Expedition

The Freelancer starts at Korox Shallows where they exit the strider.

  • Freelancer Rythe: "Rythe here. I’m in position. You ready, partner?"
  • The Freelancer: "Ready."
  • Yarrow: "Rythe, I’m detecting your distress signal. Next turn your tracer on."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Arcanist tracer thingy is… on."
  • The Freelancer: "Tracer?"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "If Diggs is a no-show, we can trace any comms."
  • Yarrow: "Someone calls him, we get a location."

Meet Rythe

The Freelancer must reach the point where Rythe is acting as if in distress to draw out Diggs.

  • The Freelancer: "Anybody taking the bait out there, Rythe?"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Nothing yet. Hang on."
  • The Freelancer: "Rythe? What’s going on?"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "A whole gaggle of outlaws incoming. The party’s started. Get over here."
  • The Freelancer: "Hang on!"

The Freelancer reaches the Eddian Grove.

  • Outlaw: "Under heavy fire!"

Help Rythe Defeat Outlaws

The Freelancer and Rythe fight the gaggle and draw out an outlaw leader called Baker.

  • Outlaw: "The target isn’t alone! What’s going on?"

As the Freelancer defeats more outlaws,

  • Outlaw: "Diggs! Diggs, you hear me? We got trouble over here. It’s a trap! Bo, I don’t know what the hell’s going on."
  • The Freelancer: "I’m hearing radio chatter to Diggs. Let’s use that tracer."
  • Yarrow: "Looking at it now."

As more outlaws are defeated,

  • The Freelancer: "I’m not seeing Diggs. Rythe?"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Nothing here! Yarrow, anything on the tracer?"
  • Yarrow: "Not yet."

If at any point Rythe is downed and the Freelancer repairs her javelin,

  • Freelancer Rythe: "Boom—that should do it."

When all the outlaws and Baker are defeated,

  • The Freelancer: "Yarrow, tell me you have a location."
  • Yarrow: "I got two possible locations. Best I cand do."
  • The Freelancer: "Two? Dammit. I got one. Rythe…"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "I got the other. Go—get moving!"

Enter the Cave

Yarrow gives the location to a hidden cave. The Freelancercan also encounter fauna such as Brutes and Anrisaurs along the way.

  • The Freelancer: "Two signals, Yarrow?"
  • Yarrow: "What can I say? Two signals."
  • The Freelancer: "Rythe, tell me if you see anything crazy."

As the Freelancer approaches the location,

  • The Freelancer: "I think I see an entrance ahead."
  • Yarrow: "Rythe, you hear that?"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "You. Got an empty outlaw camp here. This might be a dead end."

The Freelancer enters the Necropolis.

Find Diggs

This cave will certainly have Diggs. The Freelancer looks around.

Investigate Outlaw Den

  • The Freelancer: "I’m in. Seeing natural caves. A waterfall. Nothing yet."
  • Yarrow: "You know they call this the Necropolis, yeah? Our fallen are watching."
  • The Freelancer: "Don’t worry—we’ll find Diggs. His story ends here."

There are several interesting equipment in the cave. There is a text pop up on a black Dominion crate. As the Freelancer presses on, they find a lancer hooked to a machine amid outlaws.

  • The Freelancer: "Wait. Someone is cahined up. Is that a Freelancer?"
  • Yarrow: "Yes. Freelancer Hopkins. Dammit, Diggs has gone too far. It is one of my missing Freelancers."

Release the Freelancer

The Freelancer fights the outlaws. There is also a turret.

  • The Freelancer: "I got company!"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Hold on—on my way."

After taking down the enemies, the Freelancer destroys the machine hooked up to Hopkins’s javelin and releases him.

  • Freelancer Hopkins: "Damn, it’s good to get out of that thing."
  • The Freelancer: "What happened?"
  • Freelancer Hopkins: "That Diggs bastard grabbed me and a few others. Go on. I’m right behind you."

The Freelancer proceeds to the heart of the Outlaw Den amid the Anzu structures. Two more Freelancers are hooked to machines!

  • Yarrow: "They’re taking fire! Get over there!"
  • The Freelancer: "Understood!"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Hold on—on my way."

Eliminate Outlaws

The Freelancer fights the outlaws with the help of Freelancer Hopkins. There are several equipment in the Anzu structure in the middle of the cavern.

  • Yarrow: "Dominion crates. Weapons, armor. Not good."
  • The Freelancer: "Diggs cut a deal with the Dominion."
  • Yarrow: "Yes. But with no fragments. What’s he going to trade?"
  • Freelancer Hopkins: "He planned to sell us to the Dominion."
  • Yarrow: "What? Diggs was going to sell him to the Dominion?"
  • The Freelancer: "Weapons for Freelancers. That’s the deal."

As the combat continues,

  • Freelancer Rythe: "I’m here! Did you save any for me?"
  • The Freelancer: "More than enough!"
  • Freelancer Rythe: "That’s what I like to hear."

When all the outlaws are defeated,

  • The Freelancer: "A hell of a lot of outlaws tucked away down here."
  • Yarrow: "Diggs can’t be far."
  • The Freelancer: "We’ll find him. I promise."

Freelancer Kriss and Freelancer Maa are released from their incarceration.

  • Freelancer Kriss: "Finally! Let’s get that bastard!"
  • Yarrow: "Yes, gather the Freelancers to fight this coward."
  • Freelancer Maa: "Look out!"

It is to be notes that there are a few text pop ups on items placed on the central Anzu structure. The four freelancers have now gathered. Diggs is very likely hiding deep inside the Necropolis. It is high time he was brought down!

Continue Exploration

As the Freelancer goes deep inside, there are Dominion Frost Brutes guarding the place.

  • Freelancer Rythe: "Dominion monsters? This is crazy!"
  • The Freelancer: "This is crazy."

The Freelancers kill the sorry beasts. When the Freelancers go deeper down, there is another incredible Anzu structure. All the outlaws in Diggs’ outlaw gang are here.

  • Freelancer Maa: "Whoo! Payback time!"
  • Freelancer Hopkins: "Heads up on the floor!"
  • Freelancer Kriss: "I see it!"
  • Yarrow: "Electricity. Yes, Diggs must be using a Dominion device."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "Take out the generators to shut that down."

The said Dominion device is in the far end of the cave and destroying it will disable the electricity on the ground.

Stop the Impostor

The Freelancer can choose to take down the generator or simply keep fighting to bring Diggs out of hiding.

Draw Out Diggs

More outlaws begin to gate in.

  • Freelancer Hokins: "Watch your flank!"

As the battle continues,

  • Freelancer Rythe: "Diggs,! Come out, you coward!"
  • Freelancer Hopkins: "That’s for Freemark!"

As more outlaws are defeated, Diggs shows up.

Eliminate Diggs

  • Diggs: "Here to fix my strider, Freelancer?"
  • The Freelancer: "Diggs! About time you came out of hiding."
  • Diggs: "Sure, you caused me a lot of problems, but that? Oh, that must sting. Makes me laugh everytime I think about it."

The Freelancer fights Diggs, the Impostor!

  • Diggs: "I had a good thing going. Using Freelancer contracts to find new jobs. It was easy."

Note that there is a text pop up on a crate below where combat with Diggs happens, facing towards the far end of the cave.

  • Diggs: "One day, the Dominion calls me. Can you believe that? The Dominion. They didn’t much like Freelancers. Not since, y’know."
  • The Freelancer: "We stopped them cold? They still bitter about that?"
  • Diggs: "They had lots of things to trade."
  • The Freelancer: "It’s over, Diggs."

As the Freelancer continues to fight,

  • Diggs: "Maybe I pay old man Yarrow a visit after I’m done here. He’s probably worth something to the Dominion."
  • Yarrow: "I dare you to set foot in Fort Tarsis, coward."

If the Freelancer destroys the two generators,

  • The Freelancer: "Generator’s powered down. That should take care of the electrified floor."

There is also another text pop up on a crate exactly opposite to the first crate in the arena where the combat with Diggs happens. As the Freelancer defeats Diggs.

  • Diggs: "Coward. This doesn’t end well for you, Freelancer."
  • The Freelancer: "What’s that? Can’t hear you? Diggs is down!"
  • Yarrow: "You did it!"
  • The Freelancer: "It’s over, Yarrow. It’s done."
  • Yarrow: "Yes. And my friends, you found them. Their stories will continue."
  • The Freelancer: "Not a bad day’s work."
  • Freelancer Rythe: "See that! Freelancers kick ass! Whoo!"
  • Yarrow: "(Laughs.) Truth. Thank you. Now come home. We have much to talk about."

The Freelancer returns home safely along with Freelancers Rythe, Hopkins, Kriss, and Maa!

Post Expedition

Speak with Yarrow

The Freelancer goes to the Enclave to meet Yarrow.

Speak with Yarrow

  • The Freelancer: "No more Diggs."
  • Yarrow: "No more Diggs. Working with the Dominion in the end. (Disgusted Noise.) if people heard even a rumor of a “Freelancer” working with them? Bad."
  • The Freelancer: "We put a stop to it. Diggs, his people, his whole setup. Gone."
  • Yarrow: "Yes, yes, you are right. The good in all this. You rescued your fellow Freelancers as well. that is also good."
  • The Freelancer: "Guess we’re done."
  • Yarrow: "Oh, you think your work is done? (Laughs.) Work is never done, you hear me?"
  • The Freelancer: "(Laughs.) I hear you."
  • Yarrow: "But maybe we find time to celebrate, hmm?"
