Ripstream
See Cortex Entry: Ripstream for More Details
A strong wind that limits the height of javelin propulsion. Ripstream can also be experienced when one leaps from a cliff, only to enter a vague greyness, then arrive suddenly near where one started. Though Arcanists have long studied the buffeting winds in our upper atmosphere, there has been little agreement on or proof of their cause. In the early 200s, there was a popular belief that the Shapers wished to keep creatures limited to a certain area, as if remaining close to the ground was part of a larger plan. Less suspicious minds believe the ripstream is due to the size of our moon and atmospheric variables.
Waterfalls
See Cortex Entry: Waterfalls for More Details
There are dozens of waterfalls in Bastion, and while they are beautiful, they can also be deadly. Getting caught in the undertow of a waterfall without a javelin can result in drowning. During the great expansion of Fort Tarsis, going over local waterfalls in a barrel resulted in many deaths, leading to the banning of all waterfall recreation. Waterfalls should be treated with caution. For lancers, however, waterfalls can be very useful. Flying through a waterfall will cool a javelin's boosters and elongate flight time. This helps Freelancers, Sentinels, and other lancers travel through the perilous wilderness and reach people in need much quicker.
