Faye, there's a golden grabbit! |
Golden Grabbits are a special sub-species of Grabbits that appear golden in color and have additional abilities.
Etymology and Anatomy
Golden Grabbit get its name from Golden (Coloured or shining like gold) and Grabbit (A creature found on Coda). They also have sparkles coming out of them.
Golden Grabbits look exactly like regular Grabbits but have a shining outer glow. Sometimes this glow looks golden, while other times, it is simply bright and colorful. They also have a significantly larger health pool that rivals Legendary Scar Hunter enemies.
Narrative Involvement
Venwik Crok thinks Golden Grabbits are a special sub-species of Grabbits that are attracted to shiny objects. These Grabbits are true hoarders. They can hoard items because they have the ability to blink between two points instantaneously.
Golden Grabbits aren’t currently seen outside in the wild, but they can be encountered in special instanced areas.
Encountered Expeditions
At least one Golden Grabbit can show up in the below list.
Encounter Locations
The following places are all the locations where Golden Grabbit can be found, either physically or in the lore. They may not be always found there, but have a high chance of being found in these locations.
Behavior and Abilities
Golden Grabbits are docile creatures. They cannot attack. But they like to blink away to random places while sprinting.
Hidden Attributes
Grabbits have the following hidden attributes:
- Docility: Golden Grabbits are docile and they don’t attack.
- Sprint: Golden Grabbits like to keep running around without stopping.
- Blink: Golden Grabbits can teleport to short distances while sprinting to evade attacks.
- Walking Loot Box: Damaging and depleting the Health of Golden Grabbits drop rewards.
Strategy
Grabbits won’t attack anyone, but because of their Walking Loot Box attribute, they are an interesting target.
Doing damage to or defeating these creatures can make them special rewards, usually Cymatic Notes and Loot.
Combat
Golden Grabbits have a very high health pool. But because they keep moving around, so it can be tricky to damage them. As their health is reduced, they keep dropping rewards. When it is completely depleted, all the items hoarded by the Golden Grabbit spills out, while the Golden Grabbit itself teleports to an unknown location.
Golden Grabbits cannot die.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- Golden Grabbits are a reference to the Grabbit King, a folk tale and popular opera in the Mirelands.
- Although no exactly Bosses, Golden Grabbits are as rare as Apex enemies which are walking lootboxes themselves.
- The PTS version of Echoes of Reality (Game Mode) had a Golden Grabbit in its Hall of Royalty area, which would have been the
Grabbit King Puzzle dropping Loot when damaged and defeated. It was unfortunately cut because it could not be balanced before the cataclysm's release.
- Golden Grabbit comes under a special category of enemies called Walking Loot Boxes. These enemies dropped loot and other rewards when damaged and defeated. This concept was going to be quite prominent in the canceled rework of Anthem, where there would be several apex enemies that would behave like Walking Loot Boxes randomly.
- There is an unobtainable Cortex Entry on how or why Golden Grabbits exist and how they operate:
- It is well-known that grabbits are attracted to shiny objects, but not all are true hoarders. I believe a rare sub-species of grabbit exists that are accepted by their brethren, but are much more than meets the eye! These Golden Grabbits, as local treasure seekers call them, have abilities unseen in other grabbits that aid them in obtaining materials for their hidden nests. These include the ability to blink from one location to another, pass through physical matter, and produce a protective energy shell. These Golden Grabbits will snatch anything they can get their little paws on. There are reports of Golden Grabbits dragging machine parts, strider pieces, or even whole javelins back to their nest!
