Freemark was a settlement, located in the nation of Bastion, but is now a ruin on the planet Coda, as of the year 468 LV.

History

It is heavily implied that the city was founded by Midderon, the founder of the Freelancers faction. Freemark was so popular among the Freelancers, that it housed the largest Freelancer Enclave of Bastion. Tournaments such as Venter Race, summer competitions, and a lot more.

There were Legion Era marvels such as The Colossus of Tarsis built here. There was also the Grand Wall of Freemark, which proudly boasted the achievements of the Freelancers in the form of pictorial and literary artworks.

Until the Dominion invaded Freemark in 458 LV, Freemark was a bustling city of Bastion. It was the second oldest and second largest city of the nation—thousands of people, including many Freelancers currently living in Fort Tarsis once called this proud city their home.

On the day the Dominion marched for Freemark, Freelancers and Sentinels joined forces and battled against the enemy. Sentinels are said to have used weapons such as Radiant Fortress during the battle to quickly replenish their shields. Furies were first seen in Bastion during this battle. While many survivors’ accounts have been told, the fact remains that the city and anyone inside it were annihilated in an instant by the cataclysm unleashed by disturbing the Cenotaphthe Heart of Rage.

A decade later, the Freelancer, along with allies Haluk and Faye Navine, with some support from Owen Corley and Tassyn, silenced it by stopping a Dominion Monitor, who became Shaper Corrupt from connecting himself to the volatile Cenotaph. While no memorial was ever held or built once the cataclysm was silenced, the people of Bastion celebrated this victory through commemorative items, special meals, and themed cocktails, and even through a quiet ceremony for all those on whom the toll the Heart of Rage had taken over the years.

Geography and Layout

Location Settlement Freemark Geography Image

The walls of the city were made of bright red stones in contrast to the verdant forests outside of it. Freemark was surrounded by tropical vegetation. Albeit not as dense as the forests of Northern Bastion, it was still very plentiful.

There may have been many unique types of flora and fauna here. But since the destruction of the city, only Shaper corrupt creatures, elemental beings, and chimeras have been seen. The vegetation here is mostly burned plants now.

Flora

The following are the revealed varieties of plantlife that are guaranteed to be found in Freemark. Even a single instance of the flora found in this location is listed here. There may still be more plants that aren't accurately charted:

  1. Blue Flower Bush
  2. Broadleaf Tree (Past)
  3. Burned Tree
  4. Fern (Past)
  5. Ivy Vine (Past)
  6. Ornamental Bush
  7. Tender Vine (Past)

Creatures

The creatures marked with and are found only through World Encounters and World Events respectively. Those unmarked may also be found in such events, but are usually found on their own. The following types of fauna, Chimera, and Elementals are revealed to be found in Freemark. There may also be small Insects which are tough to identify. Weaponized and Shaper Corrupt creatures are not listed here

Enemy Encounters

As with all locations of Coda, Freemark may have hostile forces. Hostile plantlife and animals, if found here, aren't considered as enemy encounters. The enemies marked with and are found only through World Encounters and World Events respectively. Those unmarked may also be found in such events, but are usually found on their own.

The following types of enemies may be encountered in Freemark:

An unending, violent Cataclysm created when the Dominion attempted to seize control of the Shaper relic known as the Cenotaph. The ensuing forces destroyed the city of Freemark.
The Heart Of Rage is like no Cataclysm we've seen before. The wind throws around enormous debris like children's toys. Striders have little chance of surviving the Cataclysm intact, and lancers have died attempting to travel inside. There is no immediate solution, but if its expansion remains unchecked, the creatures and destruction it creates will ravage the countryside. Shadowmark has already been evacuated. Fort Tarsis may eventually be next

Trivia

  • This settlement or its surroundings will look different during various seasonal times, which includes the presence or absence of various cataclysmic storms.
  • The city of Freemark became the inspiration for the design of Fort Tarsis.
  • Game files show a map of Freemark. This map is also seen in various locations in Fort Tarsis and outside the walls.
  • The reason why it is known that the map image (see infobox) is that of Freemark and not Fort Tarsis, is because there are five locations where spires are present like in the actual city. Fort Tarsis only has two spires.
