While Yarrow figures a way to find out the missing Shaper fragments and a way to bring Diggs and his outlaws down, he has a contract for the Freelancer.

Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough after the Cortex Entry section for documentation.
  • Not letting Outlaws inside the Cypher Projected circle is key to quickly finishing the progress.
  • Area of damage dealing abilities are useful in dealing with large hordes of wolven or skorpions or Outlaws.
  • It is easy to deal with heavy enemies with acid or fire if they are armored.
  • Use Shield Breaker or Lightning damages to strip away shield from shieled targets.
  • Outlaw Lancers and Ursix have armored health. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them.

Diggs and his outlaws are growing in power. Disrupt their influence by completing contracts they could exploit for profit or use to sow chaos and confusion.

Outcome: You've disrupted the stolen Freelancer contract network Diggs was using to find his next big score. Until this imposter is stopped, however, the Freelancer reputation will continue to suffer.

Video Walkthrough

The below video is on rotation. The cycle repeats after 4 days. The type of javelin used, the voice of the Freelancer, and any possible season changes during each rotation. If any Cypher Annotations are found, they are mentioned in the video’s description. Not all such annotations are in one video, but all 4 videos will make up for each other’s shortcomings, if any.


Quest Chain

This expedition is a part of the Shallow Grave Storyline. When the storyline is completed, an appropriate challenge is also completed, which will reward the Freelancer. The following are the related quests in order for this storyline:

Briefing

Yarrow has posted a new contract on the Contract Board for any interested Freelancers.

  • Yarrow: "Ah, good. Ready for contracts. Diggs will be looking for opportunities. We work now to make sure he does not have them. Meanwhile, I will look for our stolen fragments."

The Freelancer ventures outside the walls.

Assist Arcanists with Field Work

  • The Freelancer: "Systems are working, Yarrow. Got some details for me?"
  • Yarrow: "A distress signal from Arcanists under attack. Let’s make sure they get help."
  • The Freelancer: "Okay, on my way."

Locate Arcanists

The Freelancer flies to the location provided.

  • Yarrow: "The Arcanists are working to open that Shaper door. We must help them while they work."
  • The Freelancer: "Got it."

Eliminate Outlaw Threat

The Freelancer fights the outlaws.

Work in Progress

The Arcanist setup the opening mechanism while the Cypher working with Yarrow creates a cypher projected circle. Several Outlaws begin to gate in. The Freelancer must remain inside the circle to make progress. If they step out, the circle changes to an orange color and the progress made dwindles. If any enemy is inside the circle, the color becomes pale and the progress slows down, but doesn’t stop. After a short while, the power of the opening mechanism is thwarted.

  • Yarrow: "Suddenly no power. Ah, generators. Go and get them running again."
  • The Freelancer: "On it."

Generators Repaired

The Freelancer must locate two marked power generators and fix them. When the first generator is fixed,

  • Yarrow: "Getting close to finishing."
  • The Freelancer: "You got it."

When the second generator is repaired,

  • Yarrow: "All right. Get back to protecting the Arcanists."
  • The Freelancer: "Okay."

The Freelancer must get back to the circle. Note that there is also a Sentinel helping out. If the Sentinel is downed, it is best to repair the fallen ally’s javelin, especially to the Ally Javelins Repaired Feat.

Work in Progress

When the progress on opening is done,

  • Yarrow: "Good, the door is open, but deal with those outlaws."
  • The Freelancer: "Understood."

Eliminate Remaining Outlaws

The Freelancer defeats the remaining outlaw enemies.

  • Arcanist: "We’ve finally opened it. Can you scout ahead, Freelancer? Make sure it’s safe?"
  • The Freelancer: "I’ll take care of it."

Enter the Ruins

The Freelancer enters the Sovereign Mine

Investigate the Ruins

  • Yarrow: "Stay alert, my friend."

When the Freelancer is deep inside the mine, there is a swarm of skorpions.

  • Yarrow: "This is why you’re needed."

Eliminate Skorpions

The Freelancer fights and defeats all the skorpions.

  • Arcanist: "Thanks for the save."

Leave the Ruins

The Freelancer exits the cave through the same way they entered.

  • Yarrow: "Since you’re in the area, I might have something else for you."

Track Down a Known Outlaw Leader

  • Yarrow: "Rumor that a notorious outlaw is traveling in your area. Find him."
  • The Freelancer: "On my way."

Locate Outlaw Camp

The Freelancer flies to the new location.

  • Yarrow: "start by defeating the outlaw leader’s people. That should bring him out."
  • The Freelancer: "On it."

Eliminate Outlaws

The Freelancer fights waves upon waves of outlaws. The leader gates in.

  • Yarrow: "There’s the leader. You see? Take him down."
  • The Freelancer: "Okay."

Eliminate Outlaw Threat

When the leader is defeated,

  • Yarrow: "Very good. But you can’t let the rest get away, understand?"
  • The Freelancer: "I understand."

Eliminate Remaining Outlaws

The Freelancer fights more outlaws and brings them all down.

  • The Freelancer: "The fight’s over."
  • Yarrow: "Finished. Nicely done. Blast, no time to rest. More work just came in."

Track Down Rampaging Beast

  • Yarrow: "An animal—very dangerous—is causing problems somewhere near your location. Find it."
  • The Freelancer: "I’ll get over there."

Locate Beast

When the Freelancer reaches the directed location,

  • Yarrow: "No monster around here. Start searching and see if you find a trail."
  • The Freelancer: "I’ll check if out."

Find Clues

When the right clue is found among the three available options,

  • The Freelancer: "Look over here. Does this give us a clue?"
  • Yarrow: "Yes, that should give us a location."

Hunt Down Beast

The Freelancer flies to the new location.

Stop the Beast

  • Yarrow: "This must be it. The beast cannot be allowed to continue this destruction. It’s up to you."
  • The Freelancer: "On it."

Stop Rampage

The Freelancer fights the Ursix.

  • The Freelancer: "No idea how it’s still alive. I have to finish this thing off."
  • Yarrow: "Not one, but two beasts. Fight well, Freelancer."

The Freelancer fights the second ursix as well.

  • The Freelancer: "It’s not going down easy. It hasn’t beaten me yet."

When both ursix are defeated,

  • Yarrow: "Let’s call that finished. Well done. Many will hear of your deed."

Post Expedition

The Freelancer collects any reward items and returns to the Fort.

Notes and Remarks

  • This expedition has no conversational cut scene during briefing.
  • This expedition has no conversational de-briefing post mission.
  • The dialogs may change or differ from the ones transcribed here.
  • As a matter of fact, the 3 main objectives can be different.
  • The dialogs mentioned in the script can vary across different play-throughs and different repetition of the game modes. The dialog will be taken from a pool that get rotated in-game. The script mentioned here is from one such instance only.
