After the first successful collaborative mission with the Sentinels was completed, Brin is more confident in the The Freelancer's capabilities. She wants the Freelancer to willingly want to take part in a different mission this time by their own interest.
Hints and Suggestions
- The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
- Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
- Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like
for the best view. - Scars infantry can be easily tackled with any combat equipment. Items that do Blast Damage are more useful when they are in hordes.
- For Scar Scouts and hunters, it is best to focus on stripping their shields with lightning or Shield Breaker damage.
- Scar Destroyers' seeker mines are filled with acid which can reduce resistance of the javelin. They can deploy them infinite times. One mine may be tolerable, but several mines can automatically target a javelin and bring it down. Whenever a Destroyer is seen, defeat it quickly with any equipment.
- Scar Hunters can do a lot of damage They must be a priority when tackling enemies. Once their shields are stripped, freeze them using ice or render them flightless with fire.
- Scar Enforcers have armored health. They don’t do much damage. Using armor buster, acid or fire type damage is the best way to deal with them. Same goes for turrets.
- Stay away from elementals as they can spew their attacks or worse, explode when near a javelin to do a large damage.

- This is the first time it is shows that there are human made equipment to study Scars.
- There is a text pop up near the second beacon that says:
- Whoever placed this in a Scar camp was either brave, or tragically overconfident.
- There is a text pop up near the inert relic that says:
- Modified by Scars. Slight charring indicates the process was volatile.
- This is the first time where it is shows that Scars have been tampering with Shaper Relics.
- This is the second time Brin doesn’t have a post mission debriefing because she still doesn’t trust Freelancers. However, she is warming up, at least towards the Freelancer, because she makes sarcastic and friendly remarks at times.
Below is the Script and Walkthrough for Cautious Cooperation (Mission):
Briefing
Brin is waiting at her usual post by her plants
- Sentinel Brin: "The Freelancer. You’re back. Okay."
- The Freelancer: "Nice to see you too, Brin."
- Sentinel Brin: "This might actually be a good thing."
- The Freelancer: "“Might”…?"
- Sentinel Brin: " A few beacons have gone quiet in the wilderness and we're short-handed. Those beacons are vital to my work here. If they're broken..."
- The Freelancer: " So I should go fix your beacons?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Ah, perfect. I’m so glad you offered."
- The Freelancer: "My pleasure."
- Sentinel Brin: "Good, good. I’ll talk to you in the field."
- The Freelancer: "No problem."

Repair Brin's Beacons
- Sentinel Brin: "The Freelancer. Brin here, again. Hi. The Sentinels don't have the resources right now to fix these beacons, so. Appreciated."
- The Freelancer: " Things went so smoothly last time we worked together—how could I say no?"
- Sentinel Brin: " Funny! That's funny. I'm sending you the direct route now."
Locate the First Beacon
The Freelancer flies towards the first location. A cypher working with Brin has created Cypher Projected signal markers. The Freelancer must fly through these Signal Markers to reach their destination in Southern Reach.
- The Freelancer: "So tell me more about these beacons."
- Sentinel Brin: "Obviously they help us monitor Scar activity. Preparedness is key. But they’re also useful for those Arcanists we’re constantly saving."
- The Freelancer: "How so?"
- Sentinel Brin: "The Scars are always cornering them."
- The Freelancer: "No, I mean, how do the Arcanists use the beacons?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Oh, right. The beacons collect information on the Scars. Movement patterns, other… science things, I guess."
Activate Beacon
When the freelancer is near the first beacon
- Sentinel Brin: "Alright, here’s the first beacon to repair."
The Freelancer interacts with the beacon. A Cypher Projected circle shows up.
- Sentinel Brin: "I’ve got a signal, Freelancer!"
- The Freelancer: "One day you’ll stop sounding so surprised when I get things done."
- Sentinel Brin: "Will I though?"
Activating
The Freelancer must remain inside of the circle. Going out will make it glow orange and the progress made will begin to dwindle. When the activation is complete
- The Freelancer: "Okay. Send me the next location."
- Sentinel Brin: "One things about the next beacon."
- The Freelancer: "yes?"
- Sentinel Brin: "It’s in the misled of an established Scar camp."
- The Freelancer: "Sounds like a fun challenge."
The Freelancer flies to the next location.
Travel to Scar Camp
The Scar camp is in The Breach.
- The Freelancer: " So what do the Arcanists do with that information?"
- Sentinel Brin: "From the beacons?"
- The Freelancer: "Yeah. "
- Sentinel Brin: "They’re trying to figure out what Scars are. Where they come from."
- The Freelancer: "Interesting."
- Sentinel Brin: "Probably."
When the Freelancer reaches the location
- Sentinel Brin: "This is the place. Time to do what you do best."
- The Freelancer: "Flatterer."
Defeat Scars
The Freelancer fights a swarm of scars
- Sentinel Brin: "How’s it coming?"
- The Freelancer: "A little busy!"
More scars gate-in
- Sentinel Brin: "That sure is a lot of Scars."
- The Freelancer: "I did notice!"
The Freelancer fights the newly gated scars
- Sentinel Brin: "I wish these Scars would… buzz off."
- The Freelancer: "Seriously?"
After all the Scars are defeated
- The Freelancer: "The area’s secure."
- Sentinel Brin: "I expected no less. Now, on to the beacon."

- Sentinel Brin: "Signal acquired. Job… well done, Freelancer."
- The Freelancer: "Was that a compliment?"
When the beacon is repaired
- Sentinel Brin: "Wait. There’s something…"
- The Freelancer: "What is it?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Now the beacons are active, I’m reading a massive Scar presence nearby. While you’re out there…?"
- The Freelancer: "Say no more."
Investigate Beacon Reading
The Freelancer flies towards the new location
Travel to Scar Location
When the Freelancer is close to the new location near Stinging Gulch,
- The Freelancer: "How did we miss these Scars?"
- Sentinel Brin: "They must be skirting out patrols. With the beacons down, we had no way of knowing."
- The Freelancer: "Good thing we fixed that."
- Sentinel Brin: "Yes. This was very… helpful."
- The Freelancer: "Was that so hard?"
- Sentinel Brin: "Scard ahead."
At reaching location in Scar's Duskheap, there are relics hooked up to Arcanist equipment
- The Freelancer: "Found them. There’s Arcanist machinery everywhere, Brin. What’s going on?"
- Sentinel Brin: "I don’t know. But these are definitely the Scars on my readings. Deal with them now. Talk later."
Eliminate Scar Presence

Brin is frustrated and confused
- Sentinel Brin: "Why are you stealing Arcanist equipment?"
- The Freelancer: "They can’t hear you, but I appreciate the effort."
Now the spawned scars have setup a turret. The Freelancer is in the heat of the battle
- Sentinel Brin: "You’re really very good at this part."
- The Freelancer: "Thank you!"
In the end the Freelancer defeats the Scars. However, the relic becomes volatile and disperses its fragments
- The Freelancer: " We’ve got a bigger problem."
- Sentinel Brin: "Is that…?"
- The Freelancer: "A relic went volatile!"
The relic begins to create elementals. The Freelancer must now pick up the scattered fragments and silence the relic while avoiding these exploding fire spewing sentient creatures
Fragments Recovered

- Sentinel Brin: "That’s a fragment back!"
When the second fragment is inserted
- The Freelancer: "Got a few fragments back!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Good! But bad, there’s more Scars!"
A new swarm of scars gate in. The Freelancer must do three things at the same time to avoid their premature demise When the third fragment is inserted
- Sentinel Brin: "A fragment back. Good!"
When the final fragment is inserted
- The Freelancer: "The relic’s gone silent!"
The Silenced relic disappears
- Sentinel Brin: "Take care of these Scars"
Defeat Remaining Scars
The Freelancer fights and defeats the remaining scars
- The Freelancer: "It’s done!"
- Sentinel Brin: "Wow. That was… a lot. But… you did it!"
- The Freelancer: "It’s what I do."
- Sentinel Brin: "Tag this equipment for Sentinel recovery. Please."
