Bugs are a broader terms for small vermin in Anthem-logoAnthem. Sometimes called insects, bugs have definite structures, others are simply shows in the context of visual effects. Bugs like Skorpions, Butterflies and Vesnids have their own page. For convenience Scars are excluded from any bug-related pages, even though they technically qualify as hives of bugs.


The following are the bugs that are recognized:


Fly

Etymology and Anatomy

Flies are miniscule bugs that seem to be attracted to light or food. They may be present flying around luminous sources inside or outside the walls. This creature is a type of Fauna. From its behavior, Fly is considered a docile life form. It usually keeps to itself when encountered. Unless threatened, it won’t do any damage.

Narrative Involvement

Flies significantly seen flying near a light sources and around the vendors in Princess Zhim's Hideout. Prominently, they are also seen when Princess Zhim is negotiating with Haluk. They are also seen flying around ursix wastes, especially during contracts given by Yarrow when the beast has to ben tracked.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • The mid-mission cutscene of Finding Old Friends for an unknown reason, shows a few flies between Zhim and Haluk, and it is very distracting!

Etymology and Anatomy

Etymology and Anatomy

Leeches are squirming bugs that re found on skorpion eggs. They are usually found on the egg clusters and are annihilated when these nests are destroyed. This creature is a type of Fauna. From its behavior, Leech is considered a docile life form. It usually keeps to itself when encountered. Unless threatened, it won’t do any damage.

Narrative Involvement

The Freelancer has destroyed several egg clusters of skorpions outside the walls.

Maggot

Etymology and Anatomy

Maggots are small red bug larvae that live on a Swarm Tyrant. When provoked, the tyrant will shed maggots which can cut through shields. Maggots have dark stripes on them. This creature is a type of Fauna. From its behavior, Maggot is considered a hostile life form. It can be dangerous to encounter one.

Narrative Involvement

When the Freelancer encountered Swarm Tyrants in the Hive and inside Tyrant's Revenge, the provoked Swarm Tyrant would shed maggots to damage the lancer.

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • The Swarm Tyrant inside the stronghold sheds maggots very rarely, but the Crawling Horror is quick to use this ability.
  • These are the only known bugs to cause damage to the Freelancer. From observation, the type of damage done seems to be Shield Breaker-icon Shield Breaker type, but further confirmation may be needed.

Etymology and Anatomy

Glowworm, specifically the larvae of these bugs can be seen hanging down from the roof or ceilings of several places. They glow a bright blue color and tend to sway around gently. This creature is a type of Fauna. From its behavior, Glowworm is considered a docile life form. It usually keeps to itself when encountered. Unless threatened, it won’t do any damage.

Narrative Involvement

Glowworm can be encountered in many locations. They are almost identical to Night Vine in their appearance. However, unlike the flora, the glowworms do not put a javelin under Electric-Status-icon electrocuted status. They are usually found inside dark caves and structures.
