Blirpbits are slimy toad-like creatures previously thought to have been extinct in Bastion.
Etymology and Anatomy
Blirpbit get their name from the portmanteau of the corruption of the word Blurp (A low-pitched sound resembling a burp) and Bit (A small piece).
Blirpbits are ancient and revered fauna. They were once thought to have gone extinct because of hunting. They are described as venomous and deadly in old books. Blirpbits are small, turquoise-colored quadrupedal creatures. There are a few that may be other colored, like tan. They have four large eyes that usually remain closed on their front and two very long and curly eyelashes. They have sharp and venomous claws on their webbed feet and a fairly small mouth with a pink tongue. However, when they feel threatened, they can enlarge their mouths to even engulf whole human heads to suffocate them.
Blirpbits smell terrible. They also secrete an oily ooze which is also venomous. They make allow pitched croaking sound.
Narrative Involvement
Since Blirpbits were thought to have gone extinct, no one had seen them in centuries. When Echoes of Reality started taking over in 468 LV, an Augur by the name of Herschel set up a shop in the Fort Tarsis market. With him, he brought a foul-smelling creature called Kit, which he claimed to be his old boss who was mutated into this beast by a Shaper-related incident. Arcanists and Cyphers temporarily gave this creature a designation of Unknown Creature Bst189567307.
While the investigation on this beast continued all the way into the Season of Skulls of 468 LV by Arcanists such as Timon Batrok, Madam Chronicler finally identified the creature to be something called a Blirpbit, much to the dismay of Herschel. Herschel still disagrees with them but seems to have come to the conclusion that Kit’s transformation is irreversible and permanent.

- Timon Batrok thinks Blirpbits are offensive creatures.
- In a rare conversation that the Freelancer can overhear, between Kit and Herschel, he mentions that Madam Chronicler has identified Kit as a Blirpbit.
- A tan colored version of Blirpbit is found in the Art of Anthem, where it is described as an alien toad-like creature that was supposed to be someone’s pet inside a strider.
- Kit the Blirpbit like to stick its tongue out.
