The chimera… had a different plan. |
Ash Brutes are savage chimeras not naturally found in the wild.
Etymology and Anatomy
Ash Brutes gain their names Ash (Remnants of something burned down by fire) and Brute (A savage creature found in Bastion). The plural of Ash Brute is Ash Brutes. When in groups, they are called a clutch.
Ash Brutes are moss green colored with skobeloff patches on their heads, shoulders, chests, and thighs. They also have flames coming out of their person.
Ash Brutes are bipedal creatures with sharp claws on their hands and feet. However, when they run, they are on all fours. Ash Brutes have 6 bright-red eyes and sharp denticles. They also have several reed-like bristles on their head and upper-back, and their tips glow a bright red. Ash Brutes also have short bristles all over their bodies, and especially on their backs.
Narrative Involvement
Ash Brutes are chimeras. They are usually formed from the Anthem of Creation clashing with Shaper Energy, resulting in the corruption of any Brutes in the vicinity. They are also summoned by volatile relics.
Like all chimeras, the sole purpose of Ash Brutes is to kill anything in sight.
Encountered Expeditions
At least one Ash Brute can show up in the below list.
Encounter Locations
The following places are all the locations where Ash Brute can be found, either physically or in the lore. They may not be always found there, but have a high chance of being found in these locations.
Behavior and Abilities
An Ash Brute Attacks
Ash Brutes have the following abilities:
- Lunging Claw Strike: Ash Brutes lunge towards their enemies and strike them with the sharp claws on both their hands.
- Fire Spit: Ash Brutes spew fire blobs on their enemies.
Hidden Attributes
Ash Brutes have the following hidden attributes:
- Instinct to Kill: Ash Brutes exist to kill anything on sight, just like all chimeras.
Strategy
Doing damage to or defeating these creatures can make them drop ammo and repair packs. If health or ammo is low, collect these resupplies.
Combat
When an Ash Brute approaches its target, it is preparing for its lunging claw strike. If an Ash Brute sees a foe in the distance, it will use fire spit.
Targeting the head of the Ash Brute will do more damage to it, since that’s where the weak point is located.
Every Named Ash Brute
There are no named Ash Brutes. However, there are several Legendary Ash Brutes encountered in World Events and expeditions. There is one prominent Legendary type:
- Legendary Ash Brute as a Secret Boss in the Seasonal Expedition of the Sunken Cell.
Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)
- All Ash Brutes summoned by a relic will die immediately on silencing that relic.
- The number of pips in the health/armor bar do not represent the total value. This means, two types can have same number of pips, but the stronger type (legendary or elite) will have a significantly higher health than their weaker counterparts.
- The ability names are taken from the Anthem Prima Guide and datamined files. They may have been slightly modified to avoid confusion with other in-game names.
