The following order is recommended for playing expeditions in Anthem. This takes into account the best possible way to enjoy the story without breaking immersion. It is still possible to play in any order as the game permits. Make sure to download the full 80+ GB of the game before starting it. Sometimes it doesn't work and glitches if only the "playable" amount is downloaded.
There are several guides, walkthroughs, and Interactive Maps to help veteran and new freelancers while they explore the game, so that they can enjoy it in the best possible way!
If any mission in Anthem seems to be glitched, try the following methods:
- Redo the mission from start (If available in the Journal).
- Speak with the character who first gave you the mission (especially, when playing in groups).
- Check to see if the mission is unlocked in the Journal.
- Some missions cannot be started until a previous relevant mission is completed (See the below guide to not miss them).
- While playing in groups/teams, always check the Journal. Just because your team mate has completed a mission with you, doesn't mean your game files recognized it. This is especially true, if you are not the team leader. This may happen because you forgot to speak with an NPC, or didn't finish a previous mission completely, etc.
- Rebuild or repair the game files.
DO NOT purchase weapons, gear, or components from the Seasonal Store War Chest under rotation or Crafting Store combat equipment under rotation, until you reach Pilot Level 30 (Maximum level). Because unfortunately, not only will those items become obsolete at level 30, they aren't balanced for early game. They will be able to one-shot kill the toughest enemies even on Hard difficulty setting, removing all the fun from the game.
Important Notices
It is recommended that all Critical Objective, Agent Contract, Agent Quest, and Cataclysm Critical missions be done on a private server (option is available before starting in the Expeditions Menu) to avoid missing NPC dialogues. Public expeditions are still possible with those missions. All other expeditions not listed above are designed always to be public (i.e., Strongholds, Cataclysms, Freeplay activities, Legendary Missions, and seasonal Expeditions).
Anthem received praise for its combat system. So if that is more of an interest over the story, then public servers with additional teammates is recommended. Repeatable expeditions will not reveal new expeditions after them. So it is recommended not to start them until the mission Secrets of the Auspex has been completed.
Make sure to speak with all available Fort Tarsis residents who are marked with conversation Icon to between missions. Sometimes they can be marked with grayed out Icon. In that case, you may need to wait for that character to finish their current dialog or finish a quest or do a freeplay event and return to Fort Tarsis to speak with them.
Choices in Anthem
The following kinds of choices are available for multiple playthroughs:
- 2 Voices for the Freelancer.
- Left Voice option/ Male Voice
- Right Voice option/ Female Voice
- Face presets. The face is only shown in select cut scenes during missions, if the default helmets are equipped by Ranger, Storm, and Interceptor, and the default torso is equipped by Colossus.
- 21 presets for the Male Voice
- 21 presets for the Female Voice
- Dialogue Choices during conversations, which lead to different types of mails received, Cortex entries unlocked, and also changes how a character perceives the Freelancer.
- Left (emotional) choice
- Right (practical) choice
- 5 Seasonal Maps with visual changes to all the maps:
- Summer map (default)
- Spring map (4 weeks starting from the first Tuesday on or after 22nd of February only)
- Autumn map (4 Weeks starting from the first Tuesday of October only)
- Winter map (4 Weeks starting from the first Tuesday of December only).
- Cataclysm map (8 Weeks between July and September, available only once in 2019 during the original run of Echoes of Reality).
- Ability to use any javelin (each unlocked by increasing Pilot Level) for any missions except for the tutorial missions (the first and second in the below non-repeatable list). Javelins unlocked once are unlocked for all pilots. So in repeated playthroughs, all unlocked javelins will be available.
- A myriad of cosmetics unlocked through challenges, in-game currency ( coin or crystals) or premium currency ( Shards):
- A wide range of combat equipment unlocked through Loot, Blueprints, Coin, War Chests, and Guardians' Gifts:
- As you progress through the main quest, new areas of Fort Tarsis will become available. As certain Loyalty Challenges are completed, additional items will become available in the fort.
- During different times of the year, the launch Anniversary (Founding of Fort Tarsis/Spring), Halloween (Season of Skulls (Festival)/Autumn), and Chritsmas (Icetide/Winter) times, the Fort, Freeplay Map, and Launch Bay will receive holiday makeovers and decorations.
- Holiday themed music will play in the background.
- Limited Time events will show up during these times.
- Limited Time locations will unlock during these times.

* | Critical Objective | Crafting the Dawn Shield | Mission ends after finishing either the Mystery of the Emerald Abyss Storyline or Triple Threat Storyline and immediately after the Dawn Shield is crafted in the Forge.
However, it is recommended to wait until #43 is completed to craft the shield as there will come a type of point of no return. Otherwise, this can bug the game by preventing you from doing anything but the critical objectives until Return to the Heart of Rage is completed.
45 | Critical Objective | Freelancer Down
46 | Critical Objective | Repairs and Inspiration
47 | Critical Objective | Return to the Heart of Rage | This mission is a point of no return. A pop up will also give a warning. The location of this mission is on the top right corner of the map. So, it may seem hidden until that location is reached using the cursor.

52 | Agent Quest | Secrets of the Auspex | Return to the Heart of Rage must be completed to access this mission. Sometimes, this quest can bug out by not letting you finish the debriefing to complete it. In that case, wait for Matthias to spawn near the corium crystal box in the lab after a short delay. You can also go out for a freeplay session and return.
53 | Critical Objective | Legends of The Legionnaires | This is a one-time quest per account. But the story can be experienced on all pilots

Although this expedition can be done after #19, it is recommended you do this after mission #51 is over. However, the best order is #63. In case you start it earlier when available, it is still fine. But this is a very difficult mission, even on Easy Difficulty, especially when there is no one in the team. If you cannot complete it, you could do this later and continue with the next mission. But next mission will not show up, as this one is repeatable. You will have to access the next mission from the Journal, or directly from the map.
