Hints and Suggestions

  • The dialog exchange between the characters will change depending on whether single player or multiplayer mode is played.
  • Remember to perform Feats to obtain XP for increasing Pilot Level and receiving Alliance bonus.
  • This particular expedition may have a video walkthrough after the Cortex Entry section for documentation.
  • Make sure to read the text pop ups that show around the memorials. This can be easily done with the help of a Sniper Rifle. Zoom and aim at the pop up marker that looks like Text Pop Up for the best view.
  • There are flying enemies, so using a Sniper Rifle or long range weapons/gears are more beneficial.
  • Weapons and Gear that do Blast Damage can be very useful against outlaw hordes.
  • Outlaws spawn indefinitely until all 3 piles of hidden equipment are recovered before lighting the third brazier. So, retrieve them first, or use this opportunity to complete feats for more xp rewards.

Stories of Freelancer sacrifice are being lost. Remember the deeds of fallen Freelancers by gathering a piece of equipment called a link and returning it to Fort Tarsis. Used primarily for communication with a cypher, a link also records important information about a Freelancer's life.

Outcome: You stopped outlaws from looting the graves of fallen Freelancers. A special device called a link which holds a record of a Freelancer's life seemed of particular interest to the looters. A special favor was completed for Freelancer Yarrow regarding an old friend of his.

Video Walkthrough

Video guides are added for convenience and documentation of Anthem-logoAnthem. These guides show almost all possible incidents that may occur during each playthrough of this particular expedition.

The below video is on rotation. The cycle repeats after 4 days. The type of javelin used, the voice of the Freelancer, and any possible season changes during each rotation. If any Cypher Annotations are found, they are mentioned in the video’s description. Not all such annotations are in one video, but all 4 videos will make up for each other’s shortcomings, if any.

Quest Chain

This expedition is a part of the Keeping Promises Storyline. When the storyline is completed, an appropriate challenge is also completed, which will reward the Freelancer. The following are the related quests in order for this storyline:

  1. What Freelancers Do
  2. Contract: Protection Duty
  3. A Favor to Ask
  4. A Cry for Help
  5. Contract: A Helping Hand

Trivia (May Contain Spoilers)

  • This is the first time the Freelancer learns about the story wall in the Enclave, even though they have been there for some time. This shows how scarce the Freelancers are at this point in fort Tarsis.
  • The text pop up when the fire is lit at the memorial reads as: A dedication to the Freelancers who gave their lives at the Battle of Gao's Choice.
  • Gao was a Sentinel Commander.
  • When Yarrow speaks about resting well when the fire is lit, he is talking about The Great Wheel.
  • There is a text pop up near the second memorial shrine that reads:
    • A rough, hand-built dedication to the Freelancers lost during the Skirmish at Scavenger Point.
  • There is a text pop up near some debris opposite to the second memorial that reads:
    • Freelancers saved the life of Sentinel Commander Gao and family.
  • There is text pop up near one of the stolen items when encountering the outlaws. They read:
  • There is a text pop up near the third memorial that reads:
    • A distress call was used to lure a team of Freelancers here for an ambush
  • The reason why outlaws were stealing links is explained in later missions of Bad Deal and impostor.
  • There are two text pops up at the final memorial which read:
    • A hearty flower traditionally planted where a Freelancer has fallen.
    • This site is well-built, but has not been visited for some time.
  • The stubborn Freelancer that Yarrow talks about towards the end of the mission is an old friend of his.
  • Each time a brazier is lit by the memorial, a soft music from the soundtrack “Legion of Dawn” is played

Below is the Script and Walkthrough for A Favor to Ask (Mission):

Briefing

The Freelancer goes to see Yarrow in the Enclave.

  • Yarrow: "Ah, my friend. Always good to see you. You see the stories up on the wall?"
  • The Freelancer: "Yeah, I was wondering about those."
  • Yarrow: "When a Freelancer falls, their link is brought to me. In life, the link connects us to a cypher. In death, it is a record."
  • The Freelancer: "And you write up what happened?"
  • Yarrow: "Yes. To remember what Freelancers have given."
  • The Freelancer: "You do this all by yourself?"
  • Yarrow: "It is an honor. We should not grieve, we should celebrate. I want you to go honor our dead. Bring me their stories. And light their way home."

Uphold Freelancer Traditions

The Freelancer prepares for the expedition.

Launch Expedition

The Freelancer reaches the initial location

Briefing Gallery

In Expedition

The Freelancer starts at Watchtower of Arath.

  • Yarrow: "Too many links—too many Freelancers stories have been lost. Find them and bring them home. Their sacrifices won’t be forgotten. Their deeds should burn bright. Very bright. You hear me?"
  • The Freelancer: "I hear you."

Locate First Site

The Freelancer goes to the first site to find links in the Garrison at Velathra.

  • Yarrow: "The site ahead has not been tended to. You will change that. A Freelancer died here. Others came to finish his works. Some remain. “Strong Alone, Stronger Together”."

The Freelancer reaches the site.

  • Yarrow: "Clear out any unwelcomed visitors. They are unfit to dwell here."

Predators Cleared

The Freelancer fights 12 skorpions and clears out their nests by destroying their eggs.

  • The Freelancer: "On it."
  • Yarrow: "I used to come here myself. Sweep the vermin away."

At the halfway mark,

  • Yarrow: "Ha! You fight well for your brothers and sisters!"

When the Freelancers clears out the skorpions,

  • Yarrow: "Ah. Very good. Now light the fire. To celebrate their lives and guide them home."
  • The Freelancer: "Got it."

Light Fire at memorial

The Freelancer lights fires at the memorial shrine. There are several text pop ups that show the names of the Freelancers and how they fell.

  • Yarrow: "Rest well. We will all find each other when the world is finished."
  • Yarrow: "I have another site for you. Very close."

Clear Memorial Site

The Freelancer goes to the next site which is close by.

  • Yarrow: "This next place will be bloody. You must collect the links of the Fallen Freelancers."
  • The Freelancer: "So you can write their stories."
  • Yarrow: "Yes."

When the Freelancer reaches the site, there are several predators, including Wyverns, lurking around.

  • The Freelancer: "Looks like a recent battle."
  • Yarrow: "Yes. Quite recent. Many stories ended."

The Freelancer fights with all the fauna

  • Yarrow: "You do well, clearing those bastards out!"

During the heat of the battle,

  • Yarrow: "Ah, sometimes I miss the action."

When the enemies are defeated,

  • Yarrow: "Looks clear, for most part. Now, search for any links that remain."

Retrieve Links

The Freelancer checks the lost javelins of 4 Freelancers. After checking the first javelin,

  • The Freelancer: "Some gear, but no link to collect."

When the second javelin is investigated,

  • The Freelancer: "Got another one. Gear is mostly stripped, including the helmet."
  • Yarrow: "So no link?"
  • The Freelancer: "Nope."
  • Yarrow: "Strange."

When the third javelin is checked,

  • The Freelancer: "Got some more gear again. Serviceable, but no links again. Scars, I guess?"

At this point more skorpions show up with whom the Freelancer fights,

  • Yarrow: "No. Scars would never leave all this behind. Someone else."

When the Freelancer checks the fourth javelin.

  • The Freelancer: "That’s all of them. And no links. Anywhere."
  • Yarrow: "Damn. I know who is doing this. I don’t know why, though. First, survivors left a memorial here. Light the fire."

Light Fire at Memorial

The Freelancer lights a brazier at the memorial,

  • The Freelancer: "Yarrow, who took those links?"
  • Yarrow: "outlaws. Criminals with no code. Banished from civilization. Monsters."

Clear third Memorial Site

The Freelancer goes to the third site in the Bullet Mires.

  • The Freelancer: "We’ve got company."
  • Yarrow: "There they are. Lawless cowards. You get back everything they stole. All of it!"
  • The Freelancer: "I’ll try!"

Clear Site

The Freelancer fights against several outlaws,

  • Yarrow: "They will keep coming. Focus on retrieving all that they stole. Very important."

Retrieve Stolen Equipment

The Freelancer looks for 3 stolen links hidden beneath rocks. When the first item is retrieved, there is also a text pop up near it,

  • The Freelancer: "We got some gear. Helmets mostly."

When a different hidden equipment is searched,

  • The Freelancer: "Got a link here."
  • Yarrow: "I knew it. They are stealing links. But why? Makes no sense."

When a third set of stolen items are searched,

  • The Freelancer: "More links. They were after them for sure."
  • Yarrow: "Bring back all you find. We’ll need to figure this out later. I have a long history with Outlaws. All of it bad."

The Freelancer defeats all the outlaw enemies.

Light Fire at Memorial

When the Freelancer reaches the memorial shrine, there is also a text pop up. The Freelancer lights the brazier,

  • Yarrow: "The links you retrieved will allow us to celebrate those who dies here. But we’re not finished. More outlaws are coming. Make sure none of them ever dare set foot here again."
  • The Freelancer: "Why are there so few stories posted back at the Fort."
  • Yarrow: "Most went to Freemark. To the Grand Wall. After the Heart of Rage, we started again in Fort Tarsis."
  • The Freelancer: "So you lost all those stories in Freemark?"
  • Yarrow: "Yes. We lost much of our history."

Clear Site

The Freelancer fights the newly gated-in outlaws,

  • Yarrow: "How did they know to come here? How?"

An outlaw leader called Redlegs Rix also shows up. The Freelancer fights this outlaw and defeats all the enemies.

  • The Freelancer: "I think they’re out of fight."
  • Yarrow: "Outlaws stealing from us. Stealing out history. I don’t understand why. Hm."
  • Yarrow: "But listen. There is one more site. Very important."
  • The Freelancer: "On my way."

The Freelancer goes to the last site in the Solarium Court.

Honor Yarrow's Request

The Freelancer lights the memorial shrine around which a Sunset Flower plat grows. There are two text pop ups for them to read.

  • The Freelancer: "Is this it?"
  • Yarrow: "A monument of sorts, yes. I’ve not been able to visit for some time, and… I wanted to see it again. For a Freelancer, he did great things. So stubborn! (Chuckles quietly!)."
  • Yarrow: "But come, bring me the links you recovered. Their stories will be written."

Post Expedition

The Freelancer returns to the fort.

Return to Yarrow in the Fort

Yarrow waits for the Freelancer in the Enclave.

Talk to Yarrow

  • Yarrow: "Trouble at the graves, eh?"
  • The Freelancer: "Yeah. Outlaws."
  • Yarrow: "The links you recovered, priceless to me, but…"
  • The Freelancer: "Wouldn’t buy a hot meal?"
  • Yarrow: "Nor a bottle of Fortuo Brew! So much history destroyed when the Grand Wall in Freemark fell. Who we lost, what they accomplished."
  • The Freelancer: "That last grave I visited…?"
  • Yarrow: "A friend. He never came home. I made that marker for him. For now, I have many stories to write and glasses to raise."
